Thursday July 30th at 7.45pm at the Community Hall, Barwon Heads Film Society presents
Dir: Clint Eastwood. The story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s
rock group The Four Seasons.
Cast: John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda
the film itself is solid and entertaining, but right at the end it all comes together in a moment of imaginative flight. Its like the closing number of a
Broadway show that sends the audience out on a high.

was a fabulous local project funded by FRRR (Foundation for Rural and Regional
Renewal) allowing our group to provide energy & waste audits for 10 local businesses.
This was a great opportunity for local businesses to have their electricity bills analysed by
appliance. The biggest power use was no surprise being refrigeration heating/cooling and
lighting. Solar PV options were also discussed, with full quotes and benefits report
provided. Overall we identified over $6,000 worth of potential savings (excl solar savings),
some solutions were simple as changing to LED lights other will require some longer term
planning. All participants were grateful for the information and we'll follow them up in 12
months to see our suggestions working for them. This was a great project for small
business owners which in turn helps the local economy. The projects funding body, FRRR
are a great resource for regional Victorian communities. FRRR's strategy is focused on
enabling communities to build their social capital and economic resilience; by
engaging and providing resources for projects that create the change that
communities aspire to achieve.
Let our Sea be Plastic Bag Free - Borrow & Bring Back a
shopping bag concept kicked off with Bellarine Secondary College sewing 35 shopping
bags on World Environment Day. We gave the students a brief presentation on the damage
plastic does to our marine life, then hopped straight into to cutting stamping and sewing the bags from recycled materials. We need about 200 bags to
launch in September, so if you can help sew, cut, stamp or have spare medium weight material, give us a call on 0417518685 or email us at
info@bhsustainability.org.au.
Great Ideas for Barwon Heads Community Plan Review - Does your community group have a project that could be
reflected in a community plan, call or email us your ideas.

Market Stall- We are at the Barwon Heads Market on the last Saturday of each month (Feb-Nov). Drop by and say hello! You may even wish to join
our roster of volunteers who run the monthly stall, starting as a helper
First Wednesday Drinks + Chat Session - We meet the first Wednesday of the month at Beach House Barwon Heads for a drink &

Celebrating
43 years
Deep into winter and all the smart people have gone
north, but our bowls numbers are still very good.
For the next few weeks we welcome Ocean Grove
Bowling Club to our green as their synthetic gets a
facelift. Its great to see the green full and everyone
happy with the way it performs.
Work around the green is progressing well and will
be a big improvement when completed.
The AGM has come and gone with Ray Charman
again the man to lead the Club as President and
Sandra Green is again Vice President.
We welcome both Ian and Karla Turner to the Board
and know theyll be great assets for the Club.
Karla takes over as Secretary with Anne Way as
assistant.
We wish all officebearers well and know the Club is in
good hands.
As we so often say, anyone interested in giving bowls
a try just call at the Club on a bowls day and someone will look after you. We are always looking for new members and bowlers.
Until next time, good bowling.

Quickly passing our eyes over it while waiting for the kids
outside the school or scanning over the tome while in the
W.C on a Sunday morning hardly allows our mental
facility to properly digest the information presented here.
This month we have a little information to go through. It'll
become clearer next month why it is so important for you
to pay attention to this stuff, but if you're not in a good
place to read this, then get your affairs in order to the
point where you are able to give your full attention to this
column for the time it normally takes to get through it and
I'll wait, because there's a bit to go through.
Ok then. Ready?
Good.
As mentioned in these pages many times, the BHCC is a
junior cricket club with a senior section. In fact in the
most recently completed season it was junior teams
alone that carried the clubs finals aspirations, and with
some great success.

talkingbarwonheads@bigpond.com
All divisions are producing great results. As of the 22nd June the
Under 16's are 2 games clear in second spot, Colts are sitting 7th
with 5 wins and 4 losses in Division 1, Reserves are undefeated 10
from 10 and the Seniors sit equal second with 8 wins and 2 losses.
Thursday nights are providing great entertainment for everyone the
place is a buzz.
After the bye weekend the Colts played St. Joseph's at home. After
an even first half the Joey's boys got on top after half time. They ran
away with a 53 point win. Best players: L. Holloway, B. Eddy, K.
Polley, B. Michell, J. Kinsey.
Grovedale at Grovedale was their next match. Down by 5 goals at
half time things weren't looking good. A second half resurgence
nearly got them over the line. At the final siren a goal separated
both sides. A great fight back but just couldn't get there. Best
players: J. Kinsey, P. Membrey, T. Croft, B. Ryan, D. Lewis.
Round 8 saw the Colts take on Ammo's. It wasn't one of their better
games, as we didn't seem to be focused. Keeping us scoreless in
the last quarter Ammo's ran over the top of us. Best players: C.
Balshaw, C. McKinnon, J. Kinsey, B. Eddy.
Round 9 we travelled into South Barwon looking to get our season
back on track. We had a good first half going into the long break 7
points up. We lost the plot in the 3rd quarter undisciplined play saw
us trail by 24 points at time which ended up being the final margin
as well. Best players: T. Croft, D. Hewitt, B. Michell, M. Brooks,
C. McKinnon.
The Reserves and Seniors travelled to Port after the bye weekend.
With a strong wind blowing the Ressies got away to a handy 23 point
lead at time. The game turned into a scrappy affair from then on,
the final result was a good 36 point win. Like the Ressies the
Seniors got away to a good start 4.14 in the first half kept Port in the
game. The second half produced a better brand of footy but we still
had trouble finding the big sticks. The final score of 11.29 gave us a
53 point win over a much improved Port.
Round 8 we welcomed Modda to Howard Harmer Oval. With a
blistering 7 goal first quarter the Ressies set the game up. Ten

bagging 6. It was great to see Tommy Andrew crack it for his first
game.
In what was a tough game the Seniors got home by 24 points.
Leading all day the Headers seemed to be in control a 7 goal lead at
time put us in a good position. Injuries to Bucky and Dom
reduced our bench to 2 fit players. Modda made a late challenge
but thanks to a great game by Dizzy we held on to win.
Final game of the first round saw us travel to Ammo's. After a
relatively even 1st half the Ressies ran away with it in the second
half. The end result was a great 84 point thumping. Corey
Normington lead the way again with another bag of 6 goals.
Could the Seniors reproduce the Ressies result? In perfect
conditions the Seniors produced the best team effort with
Tim Wight dominating down back we had Ammo's measure. A 6
goal buffer at time had the visiting crowd pumped. In what turned
out to be a heart stopping last quarter the lead was reduced to 3
points when the final siren sounded.
Heading to Queenscliff to start the second half of the season we
were missing six of our players from last weeks encounter. Due to
our great player depth this year (no more pulling Swinno out of the
pub to fill in) both sides still had plenty of talent to work with.
The reserves got the day underway with a 14 goal to 2 goal first half.
The second half of footy was pretty ordinary with only 4 goals added
to our score. The 102 point win was still a great result. Scotty
Michell, Kyle Johannesen and Corey Normington all chipped in
with 4 goals a piece.
The Seniors looked in control from the first bounce but couldn't
relay it to the scoreboard. Tim Wight put in another cracker of a
game along with Bucky and Sam Evans who was playing his first
senior game after a 12 month lay-off. Unlike last week we finished
the game full of running, the 49 point margin at the final siren was
largely thanks to Marto who finished the day with 6.
The auction night held in the clubroom after the Queenscliff
game was a great night. Although numbers were down
everybody that attended had a fun night. We feel a bit short on what
we hoped but somewhere between 10-12k was generated on the
night. Thanks to all those that attended and a special thanks to the
volunteers who put in countless hours to make it happen.
Junior Footy
Netball
As we move into the second half of the season, the majority of the
Barwon Heads Netball teams are sitting in very favourable positions
on the ladder which, dare I say, could mean a very busy and
exciting September for our community. While our Under 11 teams
don't play finals, the Saturday team is presently undefeated and,
with another two teams playing Friday nights, competition is
certainly going to be tight in the junior ranks in the coming seasons.
Both Under 13 teams are in the top 4 in the competition. Tim Ford,
who has taken on the Under 13 Div 1 team is doing an amazing job
and we are loving his enthusiasm. Similarly, Division 2, coached by
Lee Scott and Colleen McKewan, is in 4th place and the girls are
looking solid.
Both Under 15 Saturday sides are coached by Simone Wallace
and Lauren Frew. After a shaky start, the Division 1 girls are
rallying and now rest comfortably in 3rd place. Sim and Frewy are
confident they will get into 2nd in the coming weeks and thus have a
second chance in finals when they come. The Div 2 girls are also
going well and look likely for a finals berth too should they maintain
their current form.
Under 17 Div 1, under the tutelage of two of our A Grade players,
Julia Mitchell and Millie Leahy are also faring well in 2nd place.
Julia and Millie don't believe the girls are even in 2nd gear yet so we
are hopeful of more exciting times to come here. Marnie Stevens
is doing an amazing job with the Division 2 team. There are not
really any surprises that these girls are in the 4 and they also are
going from strength to strength each week.
Our Under 19 girls haven't quite had the season they would have
liked; however, there is no doubt that the girls are enjoying their
game. Likewise the Friday night Under 15 and Under 13 teams are
clocking a few wins but, importantly, they are playing some very
solid netball.
Our Senior teams are also travelling well. While Mel and the girls
in A Grade would definitely like to see a few more actual wins on the
board, the margins are becoming more competitive each week.
Fielding probably the youngest team in A Grade by a long shot, the
prospects for the future are very exciting. B Grade looks certain to
be playing finals this season, although after a wake-up call against a
very sharp Ammos team, Mel, Son and the girls won't be resting on
their laurels in the second half of the season. There is still work to
be done. Likewise, D Grade were undefeated until the Ammos
match and Bec will be working the girls tirelessly in the latter part of
the season to avoid a repeat 2014 Grand Final Scenario. C Grade
still has some work to do after a couple of disappointing losses that
really should have been wins. They will need to rally in the second
half of the season, and with Sandy Goddard fully focussed just on
the coaching role, finals is a possibility.
Junior development is really beginning to pay dividends in the club.
Maggie Leahy, Madi Finn, Keely Babb and Georgia Ryan are all
playing consistently in the A/B teams and Molly Gray and Jordan
Koster in C Grade. All girls are still Under 17 players as well.
Similarly, we have a squad of Under 15 girls who have been
selected to join training with the seniors and the girls are loving it as
well as learning lots.
Stay posted and our netball teams are well worth following in the
second half of the season.
