The Unemployment among the Youth in Vietnam


Many students think that they can get jobs easily right after they have graduated. However,
they start applying for a post or attend a job interview, they are surprised that the reality is so
different from things that they learned in college. Only knowledge can not help you get jobs, it
depends on many factors such as your behavior when you join an interview or your experiences
about the job which you are applying for and sometimes your social relationship is one of the
most important for you to get jobs (Tuyensinhvn). My goal in this paper is to research why many

students can not find jobs after graduation. I think the reasons are the knowledge taught in
college is not enough to meet the requirements of work, and young college graduates do not
have enough practical skills.
Nowsaday, great amount of students have graduated from universities are more and more,
but it is not easy for all of them to get jobs. There are two main reasons that lead students find it
difficult to get jobs that they do not have proper skills that employers require and the education
in college is not suitable.
First, lets talk about students pratical skills which are one of the important reasons make

students hardly to get job (Tuyensinhvn). Most of them think that if they have graduated from a
famous university, they can get jobs easily. However, the reality is absolutely different. On this
day, when the market trend changes every day, you must adapt to it or you will be eliminated
right away, so it is necessary for you to get soft skills as much as possible. When you attend a job

interview, the interviewer will observe you from the outside too see how you walk in then how
you dress. After that, they try to probe you by asking you questions about your daily routines and
individual life. That is how the interviewer can know about your personal character, so they can
judge that you are fit to the position which their company is asking for or not.
Besides, students career orientation also affects on their success, people says that
freedom is doing what you want . Therefore, defining exactly what you are interesting in and
what makes you happy when you are working that is the first thing you should do before you
choose your major. Many students changed their mind after they had been attending the major
which they chose just because they felt no interest in their major anymore. Let think about the
future, when you are working at the office, suddenly you feel your present job is so boring, you
want to get a new job. At that time, it takes a long time for you to starting over again from
learning about the new job then apply for that job. That is why decide your own career
orientation is one of the important things that will make you succeed or fail.
College graduates are usually very hasty when they make any decisions because they do
not have much living skills. In this critical economics period, a lot of companies have to cut
down their human resources just because the company do not have enough money to pay for
them. Thus, getting job in this day is a challenge. Young people are easy to be attractive by highsalary job, then they will not hesitate to change a new job. Yet they do not know that big jobs

require big responsibilities.

Searching some information about the job which you want to apply for is also very
necessary. You have to know what you need to do to be accepted for that job. For example, is
you apply for secretary position, there is something you need to know. Being a secretary,
you must be swift or a lawyer you have to be flair. According to a survey of Hanoi National
University, 70% of students said that they have reflected on the job they will apply for, but they
did not known any details about it (Dantri). If you do not know anything about what you are
going to do, you will be easy to get lose.
The second main reason that makes many students fail of getting job is the teaching
methods in university (Dantri). Most of knowledge is just theory in the book , students rarely
have oppurtunity to practice. Besides, knowledge is not upgraded also affect the educational
quality. Knowledge and reality have to be match, otherwise it becomes useless.
The difference between learning theory and the reality also cause some consequence. For

instance , if you just focus on learning marketing, but present markets requirement is
technology, then your effort will be nothing. Business market is a battlefield , unless you pay

attention , you will be eliminated for sure. If the difference is so large, it will be difficult for you
to work. Moreover, unless you apply learning knowledge to work, all the time that you spent for
studying will turn into dust.
All of these ideas and opinions explain why college graduates hardly to get jobs. The
education quality is so poor that leads students can not define exactly what to do in the future. It
is not only the teaching methods in college, but pratical skills are also very important. If two
people aplly for a position at the same time, but one have lots of pratical skills and experiences,
the other have graduated from a superior university, then the person who got more experiences
will be hired for sure. Because companies want to recruit people who can work, they do not want
to hire a book which only have theory and paper. They need person who know how to solve
problems and give them ideas when they are asking. If knowledge is the amour, then social
experiences will be the sword.
