The HealthGuard-15 should include all of the components identified above.

The HealthGuard-15 measures the blood pressure and estimates the body fat of adults
aged 18 and over.

Getting Started
Assembling & Setting Up Your HG-15
First you'll need enough room to place the scale, the integrated cuff, and your computer
next to each other as shown in the illustration below.

Next, open and remove the contents of the hardware bag (2 phillips head screws, 2
washers, and 2 thumb screws). Attach the are rest to the cuff as shown below:

Once assembled, attach the cuff to the table top using the supplied thumbscrews:

Attach the Cords


You can now connect all of the components to complete the assembly of your HG-15:
Key:

A- Communication Cable
B - Power Cord
C - USB Cable

You can now proceed with installation of the HG-15 software.

Installing the HG-15 Software


Minimum PC Requirements
PC Running Windows XP or Vista
32 mb RAM
Software Installation
Insert the Software CD into your CD drive. The CD will start automatically, and you will
see the following screen:

Follow the on screen prompts to complete installation of the software.


Note: If the CD does not start automatically, view the contents of the CD and double
click the setup.exe file.
The HG-15 can now be connected to your PC.

Make the following connections in the following order:


1. Power Connection
Connect the power supply to the Power Connection located at the end of the Interface
Box. Then plug the power supply into a standard wall socket to provide power to the
HG-15.
2. Serial Cable
Connect the serial cable to the scale and then to the cuff.
3. PC Connection
The HealthGuard-15 communicates with your PC via a USB Cable. Simply connect the
USB cable to any available USB port on your PC. Then plug the connector on the
opposite end of the USB Cable into the HealthGuard-15.

Note: The HG-15 may take 2-5 minutes to warm up before it is recognized by your PC.

Using the HealthGuard-15


Start the Software
Start the software by double clicking the HG icon on your desktop. You will see the
following display:

Zero Adjusting the HG-15


Before using the HG-15, the body fat measurement probe should be zero adjusted. To
start the Zero Adjust procedure simultaneously press the "Ctrl" key and the "Z" key (Ctrl
Z). You will see the following dialogue box:

Place the optical standard in the cuff as shown and click "OK"

When the Zero Adjust is complete, you will see the following dialogue box:

Click "OK" to acknowledge the completed Zero Adjust.


Futrex recommends that a Zero Adjustment be performed each time the unit is powered
up.
Selecting Metric or English (or Imperial) Measurement Units. The default measurement
for the HG-15 is English (or Imperial) units. To put the HG-15 into Metric Mode,
simultaneously press the "Ctrl" key and the "M" key (Ctrl M). To return to English (or
Imperial) units simultaneously press the "Ctrl" key and the "E" key (Ctrl E).

Click OK to acknowledge the change.

Performing a Measurement
To start a measurement click the "Begin" Button on the HG screen:

You will then be prompted to enter the following data:

Click the "Age in Years" Box


Then the keypad shown below will appear.
Enter your age, and click DONE.

You will then be prompted for your height.


Click the "Height in Inches" box (it will
indicate "Height in cm" if the software is
configured for Metric measurement units), and
the keypad will appear once again.
Enter your height, and click DONE

You will then be prompted for your weight.


Click the "Use Scale" box, or "Enter Manually" box.
If you selected "Enter Manually," use the on screen keypad to enter your
height, and click DONE. If you selected "Use Scale," the following screen
will appear.

Step on the scale. When weight has been successfully measured, the
following dialogue box will appear:

Click OK, and the screen will look like this:

Place the left arm into the cuff, and press Start. The following screen will appear:

The measurement may be stopped at any time by clicking the Abort button shown above,
OR by pressing the red Emergency Stop Button on the side of the cuff housing (see
photo).

It is very important that the test subject be still and quiet during the evaluation. Talking
or movement can cause errors in the measurements.

As soon as the test is complete, a results screen will appear hat provides an evaluation of
the information that was gathered.

The results will remain visible for 60 seconds. The user has the option of simply writing
them down, or clicking the "Print Results" button for a 3 page report.
To obtain the printed report, the "Print Results" button must be clicked within 60 seconds
of completing the test.

Entering Blood Pressure, Weight or Body Fat Bias Values


Your HealthGuard-15 has been custom calibrated to ensure accurate measurement of
blood pressure and body composition; however, over time it may be necessary to adjust
the readings by entering bias values in the software
1. Using Windows Explorer, view the folders on your C Drive, and locate the folder
named "Futrex."

2. Open this folder and you will find a sub folder named "Kiosk."

3. This folder will contain a file named bias.txt. Open this file. You will see the
following window.

4. Enter the appropriate numbers. The amended file may look something like this:

Troubleshooting
