Conflict with india

Illegal migration:
Illegal migration is one of the bones of the contention of these two countries, Since the 1971war
of independence that created the state of Bangladesh, millions of Bangladeshiimmigrants (the
vast majority of them illegal) have poured into neighbouring India. While theIndian government
has tried to deport some of these immigrants, the sheer number of them,as well as the porous
border between the two countries,
Border Disputes
Indias land border with Bangladesh as per the Ministry of Defence is 4351 km. runningthrough
five states, viz., West Bengal (2217kms), Assam (262 kms), Meghalaya (443kms),Tripura (856
kms) and Mizoram (318 kms), including nearly 781 kms of riverine border. The border traverses
through 25 districts.
The border is used as a route for smuggling livestock, food items, medicines and drugs
fromIndia to Bangladesh. legal immigrants from Bangladesh cross the border to Indiain search
of improving their lives. Because of a large number of illegal immigrants crossingfrom
Bangladesh into India, a controversial shoot-on-sight policy has been enforced by theIndian
border patrols

Water Disputes
Ganges water: Sharing of Ganges water is the one of the source of conflict between India and
Bangladesh. This conflict between two countries was arose when India India decided to
constructionFarakka barrage to divert water from Ganges to Hoogly River (in India).
Farakha barrage: The aim of construction of the Farakka Barrage was to increase the lean
period flow of the Bhagirathi-Hooghly branch of Ganga to increase the water depth at the
Kolkota portwhich was threatened by siltation. As irrigation withdrawals increased in
Bangladesh, disputearose between India and Bangladesh over the sharing of the lean season

Bay of Bengal Role

It is the largest bay of the world. The Bay receives inflows from many large rivers.
Geographically it is a source of water, salt, energy, fish, minerals, transport, and
business and so on. But if we look through the lens of International Relations; it is a very
significant ground of power politics. As it is situated in the dead point of strategically rival
countries, the geopolitical value of the Bay of Bengal is far beyond important than its esteemed
values
For India, utilizing its share on the Bay of Bengal is very significant. The presence of a large
gas field in the Bay of Bengal producing one-third of the countrys domestic supply and
which sells at less than one third of LNG (liquefied natural gas) prices.
More precisely, Reliance Industries is pumping gas from a massive deep-sea field and it has
doubled the country's natural gas output
Chinese investment in Myanmar's military and infrastructure gave Beijing a strategic advantage
in the Southeast Asian nation.
Thus for India, the Bay of Bengal is a very important way to keep in touch with south-east Asia
as well as exercise its dominance.
The major criterion to measure the significance covers factors like natural resource
management, sea-transport factors, technological application, and of course security.

Increasing trade with south-east Asia is another major contribution of the Bay of Bengal.
Its geopolitical significance is related with that in such a manner that we cannot distinguish
between economics and politics. And after having additional area as exclusive economic zone,
the geopolitical significance for economic purpose has increased more. More elaborately,
exchanging goods with that part of the world is expensive in airways. Again to transport by-road

shall tend to create problem to pass through mountainous bad roads, corridors of two or more
countries
The geopolitical settings of the Bay of Bengal are helpful to combat serious challenges of
regional stability because this is something for what every country tries a shot. For example, as
it is named Bay of Bengal; any Bangladeshi can feel that they have more right over it that others.
So this sort of collective feelings can create national consensus upon maritime decision making.
