Many opportunities are provided through Sport Canterbury (Sport Opportunity Programme), ParaFed Can-
terbury, Special Olympics and the Christchurch City Council. “You Can Do It In Canterbury” will keep you
informed of all the opportunities available to you.
In this edition we have featured The Star City to Surf and the 2010 Independence Games. If you have an
event, initiative or programme you would like to promote in the next edition please contact Justin at Sport
Canterbury. Information for the next edition needs to be submitted by the 9th of April.
The 6km Heart Foundation walk / run between Porritt Park and QEII is part of The City 2 Surf. Entries through Sport
Canterbury will close on 5th March. Be quick as first in will receive this opportunity.

ParaFed Canterbury
ParaFed Canterbury provides sport and recreation for people with physical disabilities. Parafed Canterbury offers a variety of
Paralympic sports, an after school Junior Sports Club, weekly training sessions in a variety of Paralympic sports, coach support, ath-
lete squads, specialised gymnasium, a pool of sporting equipment and the use of a hydrotherapy pool.

Special Olympics
Special Olympics provides year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of sports for children and adults with an
intellectual disability giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and
participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with other Special Olympic athletes and volunteers. Sports provided include:
Basketball, Athletics, Swimming, Bocce, Ten Pin Bowls, Equestrian, Football, Golf, Indoor Bowls, Badminton, Gymnastics, Figure
Skating, Snow Sports, Floor Hockey and Rowing
