In order to further their career performers need to be able to evaluate their
performance looking at the strengths and weaknesses of practise techniques and
methods plus the performance its self

As part of the Music for Youth festival, you have been asked to take part in a discussion
group following
your performance. You must prepare a report in which you describe, explain and evaluate
what you did
in the preparation of your programme.

Assignment 3: Looking Back - How Well Did the Performance Go?


For this assignment you need to know the processes required in preparation
for the performance of an extended programme of music. You will submit a
written document describing/evaluating how well your performance went.
Consider the following points in your written evaluation:

How successful were your technical preparations such as warm-up techniques,


scales, arpeggios plus any other technical exercises to help improve tone and
technique relevant to your instrument.
Were you successful in formulating effective practise routines such as allocating
time for warms ups, technical exercises and learning pieces?
Were your pieces for performance thoroughly rehearsed and learnt?
How well did you use physical preparation: e.g. relaxation and/or breathing
exercises as appropriate plus concentration techniques?
How well did you employ exercises to help control nerves?
Did you have practise performances at the venue and in front of an audience to
help you get ready?
Was your clarinet well maintained with serviceable reeds etc.?
Did you organise rehearsals with your accompanist?
