With the new Panel 800 Version 6, having a fully deployable
HMI application is always within reach. Simply mount a Panel
800 wherever it is needed. Replacing push buttons with a
exible, touch-screen panel HMI saves not only valuable space but
also time and trouble of rebuilding connections. Now, one merely
only recongure the software.

Truly open platform: Built on open architecture and

technologies that accompany the .NET framework, Panel
800 is capable of multi-brand controller connectivity. A
multitude of connection options are available for local
communication, expansion, remote access and more.

Monitoring a process via Panel 800 graphics provides better

supervision and control compared to relying on rigid buttons and text displays. Operators enjoy improved information
as well as opportunities to interact with the process. This
promotes fast and correct decision-making, which, in turn,
increases productivity and reliability. The information available
to plant operators also enables more accurate data collection
and overviews. Current production statuses are more visible,
and process analysis and follow-up are far more effective.

Ease of use: Built-in and comprehensive HMI functionalities

designed with ease in mind

Panel 800 is an HMI solution whose design, features

and functionalities are purposely incorporated to make
engineering easier while increasing operator productivity.
Language support minimizes risk of making mistakes
Unfamiliar languages in a panel HMI present a real problem
to operators. The risk of making a mistake is always present,
and the consequences can be costly. Using a panel HMI with
a local language minimizes this risk. The operator understands
the information shown and can therefore take the correct
action with confidence. Panel 800 features unlimited support
for different languages. Furthermore, the selected language
can be changed in run-time based on, for example, a tag
value. In addition, the Panel Builder engineering tool supports
seven languages namely English, German, French, Italian,
Spanish, Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional.
Built-in report generator boost process insight
Excel-based reports, including graphics, calculations and
charts, can be automatically generated. Apart from saving
time and increasing accuracy, these reports boost an
operators understanding of the plants processes.
Predefined styles built into the panels
Panel 800 makes it easy for users to create a customized and
consistent look and feel that promotes error-free operation.
With one click, one or all objects can be changed to a
predefined style, which leads to savings in engineering time.

Assign attributes to several objects with one mouse click

Being able to change common attributes of many objects at
the same time is a clear time-saver. Panel 800 attributes such
as display colors, security settings, tags and coupling can
be changed simultaneously by configuring them with a single
mouse click. The risk of missing an important change is thus
avoided.
Efficient engineering with the Panel Builder 800
Panel 800 incorporates the familiar Microsoft Windows
environment, such as the use of ribbon menus and Windows
media objects, to provide an interface that is easy to
understand and navigate.
Alias screens save development time
Alias saves users a substantial amount of development time
and significantly reduces the number of graphics needed
for projects by allowing graphics to be reused instead of
creating a duplicate. The same graphic can be reused for
several machines and face plates, resulting in huge savings in
engineering time.
Easily and effectively handle large projects
Since panels are increasingly used to control ever-larger
processes, maintaining a good overview is critical. Panel 800
features a screen explorer with built-in zoom that enables
a faster and cost-effective creation of a complete graphics
structure for large projects.

State-of-the arts graphics: A new, bold and visual way of

interacting with process applications

Panel 800s navigation tools and displays take inspiration

from todays latest IT products. At the same, it is energy
efficient because of the LED backlight technology.
Animated labels increase efficiency
Animated, scrolling text and labels solve the problem of
showing a large amount of important information in a very
small area. The user can select the speed, direction and color
of the information on process statuses, production data,
instructions and alarms.
Greater feeling and better operator interaction
Field-size and scroll-list width can be easily customized
according to operators preference. Panel 800 allows users
to customize system dialogs in colors, fonts and touch-area
size. Interacting with the process is quicker, easier and more
effective.
Easy-to-understand charts
The ability to view real-time process values in a wide variety
of graphical forms helps operators detect discrepancies
faster, compared to viewing them in numerical read-outs.
This promotes fast decision and action.

Roller panels speed up and ensure correct interaction

Roller panels that are controlled using scroll-and-swipe
gestures allow faster and more efficient navigation, compared
to navigating via numerical keyboard. Apart from offering
users greater speed, simplicity and security, roller panels also
mean saving on screen space.
Action menus allow fast navigation and save space
Action menus introduce operators to a new way of navigating
applications. Operators can set pop-up menus to facilitate
navigation to different graphics, or to perform actions such as
start a motor, show a trend, or log in. In other words, action
menus help operators do the right thing at the right time. An
action menu also means saving on space as it uses fewer and
smaller graphics. As such, a 7-inch panel can do the job of a
more traditional 10-inch panel.
High-resolution, rich-color display
Panel 800 displays advanced graphics clearly. The highresolution, 64,000-color TFT display produces sharp and
detailed images and views from all angles. Dimmable
backlights make Panel 800 ideal in light-sensitive
environments.

Robust and reliable technology: Slim yet tough,

revolutionary yet compliant

Panel 800 is designed for the toughest industrial

environments, and incorporates cutting-edge
technologies while adhering to the strictest standards.
Robust design for tough environments
Panel 800 is made of a strong yet lightweight die-cast,
powder-coated aluminum housing. It is designed to operate
at temperature ranges from -10 to 60 C. Its IP66 front
casing enables it to withstand wet, dusty and demanding
environments. Furthermore, as Panel 800 does not have a
fan or rotating hard-drive, there are no moving parts that can
malfunction. Featuring a slim, space- saving design, Panel 800
is available in three touch-screen versions measuring between
43 and 46 mm in depth. These can be mounted vertically
or horizontally using a unique clamp-on mechanism. This
eliminates the need to drill screw holes where moisture and
dirt can accumulate. The panels flat surfaces are easier
to clean.

Simple testing, back-up and verification

At any given time, engineers can test projects to see how
they perform without having to download them to the panel.
Offline and online simulation can be done with or without
live data from controllers. Engineers can download projects
directly to panels via network connection or USB. Projects
can be backed up completely into the panel, with the option
to verify that the same project exists in both the panel and the
Panel Builder.
Login and audit trail safeguard operations
Panel 800 helps safeguard the process and plant by allowing
the designation of access rights to specific user groups (eg,
different login for each user group). In addition, an audit trail
function shows the process changes and actions taken by
any user.

Resistive touch for reliable operation

Panel 800 features a resistive touch screen. Compared to
capacitive touch, this type of screen technology has higher
resistance to liquids and contaminants. Most importantly, it is
responsive even when the operator handles it with gloves.

Panel 800 can run several protocols simultaneously, and

serve various brands of controllers at the same time.
When used in conjunction with other ABB Essential
Automation products, especially the AC 800M Process
Controller, additonal benefits such as the advantage of
a common network for controllers, HMI and engineering.
Panel 800 offers an extensive driver library, making it
compatible with all ABB legacy control systems, all
previous versions of Process Panel, and most makes
of PLCs. The multi protocol capability enables different
brands of PLCs to be connected simultaneously to the
panel. Critical information such as alarms, text reports,
trend data and recipes can be accessed by remote, and
alarms transmitted to the operator via email or SMS.
Multi-brand controller connectivity
Comprehensive HMI functionalities such as alarm
management, trends, logging, recipes, schedulers and
audit-trail, among others, can be used in all applications
and industries. Apart from ABBs AC series of PLCs and
controllers, Panel 800 supports 50 drivers for controllers from
major automation suppliers.
Gateway functionality
Panel 800 can also be used as a gateway; if different
controllers are coupled to the same panel, signals between
the two can be sent via the panel. This solution is simple and
secure with no extra cost.

Truly open platform

With the open architecture and technologies that accompany
the .NET Framework, the Panel 800 Panel Builder is truly
open and flexible. C# scripting allows engineers to customize
specialized functionalities to improve operation.
Quick and effective response to alarms
Alarm information can be automatically distributed to other
operator panels, as well as to a printer, mobile phone
(SMS) and email address, among others, thereby ensuring
that alarms are always received and handled quickly and
accurately. Operator productivity is increased as a result of
receiving timely and correct alarm information.
Remote access via web server
Web pages can be designed using the panel web server. The
information on the panel can be viewed on a mobile device
anywhere in the world.
