them down and negotiated hard for the right deal for Unionists.
Better Government
Work will start immediately to make the Executive work better and deliver more
for you. This New Deal will enable the Northern Ireland Assembly to focus on the bread and
butter issues such as employment and education.
Resourced to Tackle Crime
£800m package, including:
• £400m to compensate RUC officers who suffered hearing loss
• £20m for recognition payment for part-time police reservists,
many of whom served during the Troubles
• 1200 jobs on the front line protected by injection of £68m
• Access to the national reserve to tackle any increased threat from
dissident republicans
• A new approach to personal protection weapons for ex-security force members
