Good News!.
It is not as though there are not texts that are used and in some ways
seem to substantiate this teaching. Here are some of the texts which
seem to many people to teach that all sins were forgiven at the Cross:
And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus
Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:10
But this man (Christ), after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down
on the right hand of God Hebrews 10:12
For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
Hebrews 10:14
And where these have been forgiven (sins and iniquities), sacrifice for sin is no longer
necessary. Hebrews 10:18
necessary first cause, but in the sanctuary Jesus finishes the work
begun on the Cross).
The intercession of Christ in mans behalf in the sanctuary above is as essential to
the plan of salvation as was His death upon the cross. By His death He began that
work which after His resurrection He ascended to complete in heaven. We must by
faith enter within the veil, whither the forerunner is for us entered. Hebrews 6:20.
There the light from the cross of Calvary is reflected. There we may gain a clearer
insight into the mysteries of redemption. {The Great Controversy, page 489.1}
These verses show that the goal of cleansing the consciences of the
worshippers of God, both those who came to the earthly sanctuary

seeking forgiveness and salvation and for us who now come to Jesus in
the heavenly sanctuary, could never be achieved during the Old Covenant
by the blood of animals, but will be finally achieved by our High Priest
Who offers His sacred blood in heaven today!
Three fundamental doctrines of Christian Salvation we learn from
Hebrews chapters 9 and 10.
We will focus on the truths clustered in chapters 9 and 10 because this
is the climax and crown of the sanctuary doctrine Paul was building up to
in the book of Hebrews. Chapters 1-8 lay out the basic theology upon
which Paul builds up to the lofty completion of the work of Redemption.
Chapters 9 and 10 are where the goal of the whole book of Hebrews is
reached and is laid out plainly. (In chapter 11 is more doctrinal teaching
to be applied to our faith and patience of believing in and waiting for the
New Covenant Promise/Goal/Climax brought to light in chapters 9 and
10; and chapters 12 and 13 then give practical instruction on how to live
as believers and holders to the Promise thus laid out before us). In
those eternally important, climactic chapters of the book of Hebrews,
Christian Salvation is furnished with important spiritual weapons for us to
reach forth and gain the Goal/New Covenant Promise set before us in
Bright Rays, which have been hidden for far too long, and are now to be
grasped and utilized here at the end of time.
The Three fundamental doctrines made plain in Hebrews 9 and 10, which
we will discuss, are these:
1.)When the human agent who has sinned desires to be forgiven,
there must be a Sacrifice for that new sin to be forgiven.
2.)Sacrifice is no longer needed, only when the forgiven sinners are
made Law-keepers and they no longer sin.
3.)The once Sacrifice of Himself (His body) Jesus offered on the
Cross continues until the people of God are sealed and are no
longer sinning.

1.) When the human agent who has sinned desires to be forgiven, there
must be a Sacrifice for the sin to be forgiven.
This fundamental truth is taught plainly in Hebrews 9:22:
In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without
the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Hebrews 9:22
Every Bible student knows this verse and understands that this is true.
But what has happened is that most Bible students often limit the
breadth, depth and height of many Biblical principles because of our
having accepted erroneous conceptions in our doctrinal foundation. Most
Christians understand this verse to teach that, while yes, shedding of
blood is necessary for the forgiveness of sin they limit this principle to
apply to Christs shedding of blood at the Cross.
I have acknowledged earlier that there are indeed scriptures in these very
same chapters (9 & 10) that seem to teach that this principle is only
limited to a once/one time, at the time of Christs death on the Cross,
shedding of blood But the purpose of this study is properly understand
the concepts taught in Hebrews in their true context; and my purpose is
to show that by considering the other principles taught and clustered
together in Hebrews 9 and 10 that we must understand that the once
Offering of the body of Jesus is perpetual until sin ceases in His
people This you will see the book of Hebrews truly teaches and not
that the sacrifice is limited to the Cross.
Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly
sanctuary. Hebrews 9:1
In Hebrews 9:1 Paul tells us that the earthly sanctuary also had
ceremonies of divine service Students of the book of Hebrews
understand that throughout his exposition, Paul compares and contrasts
the earthly sanctuary and the ministry of the sons of Levi with the
heavenly sanctuary and the ministry of our High Priest Jesus and Paul

And again Paul explained that what happened in the earthly sanctuary
was an example of what Jesus must do in heaven:
Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was
necessary for this Priest (Jesus) also to have something to offer. Hebrews 8:3
What Paul has been teaching, and confirming in chapter 9, is that while
the ceremonies of the earthly sanctuary have passed away at Christs
death on the Cross the true ceremonies of the ministration of
forgiveness and salvation, of which those on earth were only shadows
and types, are taking place in their reality by Jesus in the heavenly
sanctuary.
So the doctrine that there must be a sacrifice so that sin can be forgiven,
we want to strengthen beyond the plain teaching of 9:22:
Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood he went into the
Holy Place once for all and secured our eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats
and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are unclean purifies them
physically, how much more will the blood of the Messiah, who through the eternal
Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead
actions so that we may serve the living God! Hebrews 9:12-14
Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be purified

with these (animal) sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves to be purified with
better sacrifices than these. Hebrews 9:23
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of
Jesus, By a freshly slain (4372. Prosphatos: freshly slain, lately
slaughtered, freshly killed 1 Occurrence) and living way, which he hath
consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh Hebrews 10:20
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without
shedding of blood is no remission. Hebrews 9:22
In the type we know that sins were confessed over the animal who was
to be sacrificed as a substitute for the repentant worshipper and then the
animal was slain and his blood, which was symbolically carrying the
sins of the repentant worshipper, was then carried into the sanctuary and
sprinkled there, showing that the repentant worshippers sins were no
longer upon him but had been borne to the sanctuary and would remain
there until they are blotted out in the Day of Atonement.
So today for sins to be forgiven, Jesus must bear those sins when they
are confessed, then He sheds His sacred blood to transfer those sins to
the heavenly sanctuary thus freeing the repentant sinner from bearing
his sins but those sins are not blotted out of the records of the
sanctuary until the completion of the final atonement in the antitypical
Day of Atonement.
This is all taught in the book of Hebrews because Paul has already
established that there is sacrifice in the heavenly sanctuary and that
the sacrifice in the sanctuary is the blood of Christ and that Christs

shadow of heavenly things For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and
sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
Hebrews 8:4,5,3
Christ bears our sins when we confess them, today after the
Cross:
so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a
second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Hebrews 9:28 (we will talk about this more later, but Christs appearing the second
time is placed in contrast to His appearing in the presence of God for us in verses
9:24-28 so the second time He is not to bear sin any longer, but during the
duration of His appearing before God for us, His High Priestly/Sacrificial ministration
in the heavenly sanctuary, He still bears sins, even now, after they are confessed,
just as we are taught by the Old Covenant type of the earthly sacrifices)
The confessed sins which are borne by Christ are then transferred
to the heavenly sanctuary by His blood:
For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the
high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. Wherefore Jesus also, that he
might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Hebrews
13:11,12 (When Paul speaks of Jesus blood here it is in immediate relation to fact
that blood is brought into the sanctuary for the ministration of forgiveness of sins and
sanctification of the worshippers where the blood is sprinkled in the sanctuary
either to transfer sins from the repentant worshipper to the sanctuary or on the Day
of Atonement, to cleanse the sanctuary. And in Hebrews 12:24 Paul calls Jesus
blood the blood of sprinkling and says that it is verily in heaven!)
All of this was to show that in the book of Hebrews Paul teaches that
when sin is committed it requires a sacrifice for the sin to be forgiven,
and that sacrifice in the sanctuary is always blood.
*Now before moving on, I want to confirm everything we showed here
from the Bible in the inspired writings of the Testimony of Jesus:

The Redeemer, with a heart of unalterable love, still sheds his sacred blood in the
sinners behalf. {Review and Herald January 9, 1883, par. 21}
As anciently the sins of the people were by faith placed upon the sin offering and
through its blood transferred, in figure, to the earthly sanctuary, so in the new
covenant the sins of the repentant are by faith placed upon Christ and transferred,
in fact, to the heavenly sanctuary. {The Great Controversy, page 421.3}
As the prayers of the sincere and contrite ones ascend to heaven Christ says to the
Father, I will take their sins. Let them stand before you innocent. As He takes their
sins from them, He fills their hearts with the glorious light of truth and love
(Manuscript 28, 1901). {Seventh Day Adventist Bible Commentary, Volume 7, page
930.16}
As the sins of the people were anciently transferred, in figure, to the earthly
sanctuary by the blood of the sin-offering, so our sins are, in fact, transferred to the
heavenly sanctuary by the blood of Christ. {4SP 266.1}
2.) Sacrifice is no longer needed, only when the forgiven sinners are
made Law-keepers and they no longer sin.
This is the point where we must understand the necessity for having the
right understanding of this most basic doctrine in Christianity as we have
been discussing: The forgiveness of sins and Christian Salvation for
fallen sinners. If we would but keep the goal of Christs Salvation clearly
illuminated in Hebrews chapters 9 & 10 before our eyes, this would force
us to abolish all theories which claim to grasp for you the prize, all the
while obviously coming short of it. The theory, the idea, that Jesus
forgave all sins on the Cross is attractive to many because it proclaims
full salvation to the sinner, but this is apart from what the Bible teaches.
On the Cross Jesus made salvation available all, but only by individually
coming to Jesus in penitence and forsaking the sins which still pierce our
Lord can we lay hold on that salvation He offers us. Lets cover some of
these important facts about Biblical salvation brought out in Hebrews 9 &
10.

This ministration of Jesus will not cease until the goal is reached,
which it the perfection of the worshippers.
For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after
year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. Otherwise, would they not have
stopped being offered? because that the worshippers once cleansed should have
had no more conscience of sins. Hebrews 10:2,3
And this is very clearly taught in the scriptures. If when Jesus died upon
the Cross all the sins of mankind were forgiven, then men should no
longer have any defiled conscience of being sinners but we all know
that even those who believe different variations of this doctrine still
understand that they are sinning. The reason is because the Bible and
the Holy Spirit are still faithfully showing us what is Gods Law and we
see plainly that we are still transgressing it by deed or thought.

This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will
put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins
and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, sacrifice
for sin is no longer necessary. Hebrews 10:16-18
Here is the important reason for knowing this doctrine properly; because
it may seem as though really in both cases I have described the result,
for now at least, is practically the same In both cases, regardless if
one believes all their sins were forgiven on the Cross or if one believes
as I am describing, that we must confess our individual sins before they
are forgiven and that Jesus must still bears those sins when confessed

and shed His sacred blood to transfer it to the sanctuary where it will
remain until Christ blots them out at the conclusion of His final
atonement in heaven - The practical result in both cases, right now, is
that we all still have not been made perfect and we still commit sin either
in deed or thought. I suppose in both cases we are waiting for the full
fulfillment of that perfection promised in the Bible which shall fit us to
stand in the presence of a holy God, Who is like a consuming fire (See
Hebrews 12:29), and the heavenly society of Jesus and of the holy
angels (I know that is the case for me!). So what then is the important
difference which makes actually taking time to study this so important
?
The difference is this knowledge of the great Sacrifice of the ministration
of our Salvation in the heavenly sanctuary, which the Bible teaches and
is now being made manifest and plain before all people, that Jesus still
must sacrifice Himself and still shed His sacred blood as long as His
people keep deciding to commit sin. Truly, the New Covenant Promise in
Hebrews 10:16 we quoted earlier can only be achieved by a supernatural
act of God It is His work to make us perfect and write His law in our
hearts and put it into our minds. But we must cooperate with His work
and His will; and knowing the truth about Jesus ministration of blood
even today in heaven is Light God has sent that we are to study, pray
and accept, because Jesus has declared we are to be sanctified by the
Truth! (see John 17:17). This Truth once received then will, very soon,
bring us to the completion of this process of watching and waiting until
the Promise of full Salvation is realized in us, in verity.
Also this knowledge puts our reaching forth to pray and claim this New
Covenant Promise out of the realm of our being motivated by gaining our
own Salvation, but now we can focus on desiring this to happen for to
deliver Jesus from His ministration of blood for us! Because only when a
remnant of His people believe His truth and by His power and the
fulfillment of His New Covenant Promise cease from sin, can Jesus be
released from His Sacrificial work in heaven and return to earth, not to
bear sin any longer but to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords!

So Christ was sacrificed *once* to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a
second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for
him. Hebrews 9:28
Having said these things it is now necessary to show the true nature of
the scriptures in Hebrews 9 and 10 which talk about Jesus sacrificing
Himself once.
3.) The once Sacrifice of Himself (His body) Jesus offered on the Cross
continues until the people of God are sealed and are no longer sinning.
It is truly understandable how most people can read Hebrews chapters 9
and 10 and come away feeling that Paul plainly shows that Jesus
Sacrifice was only once, and that once is one time on the Cross and
no more after that
For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of
the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in Gods presence. Nor
did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters
the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. Otherwise Christ would
have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared
*once* for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of
himself. Just as people are destined to die *once*, and after that to face
judgment, so Christ was sacrificed *once* to take away the sins of many; and he
will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are
waiting for him. Hebrews 9:24-28

of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us
Hebrews 9:24
Paul has already stated in this immediate context that Christ is to appear
in heaven in the presence of God, now here immediately after that verse
Paul further says He *appears* to put away sin by the Sacrifice of
Himself. This *Sacrifice*, Paul is speaking about, is in the heavenly
sanctuary where Jesus ministers before God the Father, not upon the
Cross.
It is of immeasurable importance how we understand where this Sacrifice
takes place Whether we understand and therefore believe, Paul is
talking about on the Cross or whether it is when Jesus *appears* in the
presence of God for us. Because if we understand, as I am teaching in
this study, that the Sacrifice of Himself here spoken of is in heaven, then
we understand what Paul means by *once*.
When Paul says that but now *once* in the end of the world hath Christ
appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself, we know he is
speaking about Jesus appearing and in heaven, in His role as High
Priest, ministering in Gods presence. We also know that Jesus is still
there, in that position and role, to this very day. Therefore when Paul

I pray that we all understand that though Jesus entered *once* into the
holy sanctuary, that He is where He has been for close to 2,000 years
and is still there today; He entered once, and once He entered He
doesnt leave and come back again and again The *once* Paul speaks
about concerning Jesus Offering and Sacrifice is *once and perpetual*
until sin ceases and He perfects His worshippers. He was sacrificed
once, but His wounds are not closed nor healed over. It is only necessary
now for those who desire forgiveness to ask in Jesus name: such a
prayer will call forth the wounds of Jesus and then will flow forth
*afresh* His life giving, atoning blood, which He still sheds in the
sinners behalf. In that Light, now read the verses in times past so many
have misconceived:
Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may
establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the
body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:9,10
For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Hebrews
10:14
But this man (Christ), after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down
on the right hand of God Hebrews 10:12
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will
put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins
and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no

Therefore the Door, or the Way into this Salvation: the fulfillment
of the New Covenant Promise of the perfection of His
worshippers, which is fulfilled in the Most Holy Place of the
heavenly sanctuary, where Jesus is now is through His flesh

The very next verse Paul illumines to our minds the Way to enter in
and grasp the Promise by faith:
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the
blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for
us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh Hebrews 10:19,20
We are to enter in where Jesus is ministering for us now by faith We
are to accept the Light and Messages He sends us from heaven to lead
us by faith to where He is where we may see Him and we shall be
changed Paul explains to us that the Way to see Jesus, the Way to
come to Jesus now is a New and Living Way and it is through His
flesh!
We have read this wonderful verse for years, even centuries, and now at
the end of time, Jesus is showing us the solemn truth revealed here
In describing this NEW and living Way, Paul uses a Greek work here that
is the only time this word is used in the whole Bible. The word is
Prosphatos. And it means, properly: freshly slain, recently killed. This
Greek word Prosphatos, which Paul chose to use, is translated as New
as in By and NEW and Living way through His flesh
What the Bible is teaching in the book of Hebrews, in this context of the
Heavenly Sanctuary, is that the WAY to come to Jesus for the final
fulfillment of the long and patiently awaited New Covenant Promise - is
through receiving this message by faith, which we have brought to light in
this study Receiving into our hearts the knowledge of Christs fleshly
slain body in heaven: when He sheds His sacred blood afresh, so that
our deathly sins may be forgiven!
This is a very practical message as well as deeply spiritual. Paul shows
this, again in the immediate context after describing the Way to Jesus as
being through His flesh being freshly slain, we find this practical
teaching in the next few verses:
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the

so also Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, and He will appear a
second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.
Hebrews 9:28
Now having laid out plainly before our eyes the climax and prize of this
Christian Salvation, Paul was so intent to bring our minds up to, Paul
finishes his instruction and teaching in the book of Hebrews by giving
some practical counsel on how we should live going forth after receiving
the knowledge of the truth.
He says at the end of chapter 10, that we cannot draw back now that we
have learned the truth and have been shown Jesus in the heavenly
sanctuary he says that to draw back now is to lose our souls:
Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my
righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back,
my soul has no pleasure in him. But we are not of those who shrink back and
are destroyed, but of them that have faith and are saved. Hebrews 10:37-39
Now Paul devotes the whole next chapter, Hebrews chapter 11, to
important doctrinal teaching designed to answer the question many
believers may have: Now that I have received this truth about Jesus by
faith, why am I still not made perfect? How long am I to hope on this
fashion?
The teaching of the whole chapter 11 is show us believers the
fundamental necessity that we hold on to our faith in the fulfillment of
Jesus Promise, while recognizing that all who have gone before us who
also believed, held their faith bright through their whole lives and even
died, still not having seen the fulfillment of the Promise in their lifetimes
but they knew and trusted that the Promise would be fulfilled, even if it
must be when they awake to life immortal:
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar
off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were
strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Hebrews 11:13
But Paul would not close this important teaching without bringing us
back to the great hope that is set before those of us who now live in

the last generation when the Promise shall finally be fulfilled Paul
shows that there will be a people who will see the fulfillment of the
New Covenant Promise he has been keeping before us in their lifetimes
on earth:
And these all (all of the faithful believers he spoke about in this chapter), having obtained
a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some
better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. Hebrews
11:39,40
This is the message we are to receive. The blood of Jesus, which is still
shed in the heavenly sanctuary, must be declared and believed in and
is central to the fulfillment of the New Covenant Promise:
ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly
Jerusalem And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of
*sprinkling*, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you
that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever
and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20,21
I said earlier, at the beginning of this study and message that it was
necessary for me to explain the truth before I can show how that most

Seventh Day Adventists have been greatly affected by the common error
that Jesus forgave all sins at the Cross and that no more Sacrifice was
necessary after that Now that the truth of this message and revelation
from heaven has been made plain, I give a prominent example of how
this is so.
The following is taken from the Seventh Day Adventist Creed Book called:
Seventh-day Adventists Believe ... A Biblical Exposition of 27 Fundamental
Doctrines, Chapter 23, Christ's Ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary, page
313:
But there is more to salvation history. It reaches beyond the cross. Jesus'
resurrection and ascension direct our attention to the heavenly sanctuary,
where, no longer the Lamb, He ministers as priest. The once-for-all sacrifice has
been offered (Heb. 9:28); now He makes available to all the benefits of this atoning
sacrifice. (emphasis, italics and underline added)
But how can we receive the fulfillment of the New Covenant Promise, if
when we look to heaven we do not see the Lamb slain, as He was shown
to John in Revelation 5:5 in heaven? And how can we mourn for our sins
as we should and receive the Latter Rain as prophesied, unless we
receive His truth?
Lastly I will share with you one last shining from the Testimony of Jesus
which confirms the very same things that have been delivered to you in
this forgoing message of the Blood of Jesus in heaven today and the
freshly slain, Living Way into the Holiest of All:
The rock which, smitten by the command of God, sent forth its living waters, was a
symbol of Christ, smitten and bruised that by his blood a fountain might be prepared
for the salvation of perishing man. As the rock had been once smitten, so Christ was
to be once offered, to bear the sins of many. (Hebrews 9:28) But when Moses
rashly smote the rock at Kadesh, the beautiful symbol of Christ was marred. Our
Saviour was not to be sacrificed a second time. As the great offering was made but
once, it is only necessary for those who seek the blessings of his grace to ask in
Jesus name,to pour forth the hearts desires in penitential prayer. Such prayer will
bring before the Lord of hosts the wounds of Jesus, and then will flow
forth afresh the life-giving blood, symbolized by the flowing of the living water for
