Yesterdays Daily Double Almost Didnt
Get Made!

During yesterdays third period Daily
Double class, the power went out! Half of
the computer and the A/C shut off. The other
half froze. We had to suffer in the heat for a
long time and hand write our articles. Some
of us were in the middle of typing and some
had just gotten ideas!

Lily Biro said, I was in the middle
of an article. The computer wasnt working.
I was typing, but the letters werent showing
up! So mad! Orly Shiner was really
annoyed. She had just gotten an idea and,
was just about to start. I had to hand write
it. Then, I got back to the computer and I
forgot my idea!

Some people complained about the
heat. Gabby M. said, It was so hot that I
didnt know if we would make it.

We called Harrison and Aaron. Then
Barrett tried to fix it but wouldnt figure it
out. Then, Walker stepped in. I went to
the basement to flip the circuit breakers. I
never felt like more of a hero! Although, it
was after about twenty minutes of extreme
suffering.

We finally got back on track with the
Daily Double after the computers came on.
The A/C cooled us all off, and we got back to
working. Thank you Walker for saving the
Daily Double!

On Monday, July 13th, the American probe (unmanned

space vessel that gathers information) New Horizons
performed a historic fly-by of the dwarf planet Pluto. It
was carrying the ashes of the discoverer of Pluto, Clyde
Tombaugh. This was on the 50th anniversary of the first
fly-by of our nearest planet, Mars. The photos were
transmitted to Earth the following day, as Pluto is billions
of miles away. So far, in fact, that the speedy probe took
9 years to get to Pluto (it was launched in 2006). This
was before Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet
because of the fact that it is part of a belt of asteroids
and other objects, such as Ceres of the asteroid belt and
Pluto of the Kuiper belt. But back to news: the New
Horizons mission settled a debate about Pluto: namely
its size. Plutos diameter seems to be 2,371 kilometers,
greater than previous estimates. Looking to the future:
The information transmitted to Earth will be continued
to be processed by top astronomists. In the meantime,
New Horizons will continue to explore other objects in
the Kuiper Belt. For Science!!!

Chautauqua Is Freaking Out!

Chautauqua has to take the SAT a second time,
and he is freaking out! He wants to take it again so he
can superscore. This means that if he gets a better
score for one part the second time, he can use that score
for that part, but keep the original scores on the other
parts. Chautauqua is nervous because the SAT is long,
hard, and boring. He is not looking forward to taking it
again, but he wants to get a better score.
My advice to Chautauqua is that he should be
well rested and eat a healthy breakfast on the day of the
test. It is natural to freak out, but take care of yourself,
and youll get through it. Also do a lot of practice tests
or at least familiarize yourself with the format of the test.
These are strategies for the SSAT.
Dont freak out too much, Chautauqua!

Veronica Mars Is Slowly

Spoiler Version

So, a few months ago, a
friend recommended this show I
had heard only rumblings about;
Veronica Mars. She had been
watching the show for a while,
and had even been the top player
in the VMars category on a quiz
app. She has pretty good taste in
media n such, so me, my sister,
and my mom decided to start
watching. Sadly, its not on Netflix,
so we had to rent some DVDs
that skipped. Not exactly the best
quality viewing, but it was worth
it. Needless to say, we now have
the whole series (and movie). It
has slowly, but surely, taken over
my life. What can I say, Im a
Marshmallow.

If you have never heard of
this show, heres what its about:
Veronica Mars dad, Keith, is the
local sheriff. They solve crimes.
BUT LO. A year before the show
takes place, Veronicas best friend is
murdered (not a spoiler, btw). Keith
accuses the girls father, a wellliked business man. The people of
Neptune, CA, get mad, and Keith is
forced out of office. AND THATS
JUST THE BEGINNING. For the
whole of season one, Veronica
& crew try to find out who really
killed Lily Kane. Theres also
a smaller case every episode.
Unfortunately, there are only three
seasons of the show, but theres a
spin-off movie, too! Theyre all
amazing and perfect. The show
is full of insane plot twists, great
characters, and even humor, even
though its pretty dark.

The true story of Alex Hailman

Theres this kid in my DD class named Alex. But his parents named
him Alexander. They were very mad when he started going by Alex
because they believed that he went against the family tradition of being
called Alexander. This caused an outrage in the Hailman household
(alliteration) and before long, he ended up in jail for committing this
crime of changing his name to a nickname. Once he was behind bars,
he was forced to learn the values of keeping your name, but he did not
take it very well. He decided to legally change his name to Alex so
that he wouldnt be going by a false name. This caused his parents to
get even more mad. They sent him to camp with hope of him learning
his lessons. Theres a week left, and so far, he still ges by Alex. Im
scared to see whats gonna go down on Festival Day when his parents
realize that hes still Alex.
The Advice Thing

room. If you need help with anything, just write it down and stick it in
the thing that says questions and you will eventually get an answer.

Butterfly party

Makeup mistakes you dont realize you are making

Last night I was not tired at

all, but I had to wake up early in the
morning, so I couldnt spend my time
reading or hanging out in my room. I
closed my eyes, in order to try to fall
asleep. A lot of thoughts were flying
through my mind. I bet my thoughts
and ideas were enjoying an amazing
party up there! I decided to follow
one of them.
I suddenly find myself in the
garden. I can smell the fresh grass, the
flowers. The moon spreads its light
all over the my little pounds surface.
Something colourful starts flying
around my head. It is a butterfly!
He is blue, orange, green, yellow
(maybe lime green). I have a tiny and
peaceful rainbow in front of me. With
a gentle and soft voice, he invites
me to a butterfly party that was just
about to start. Brian (my new friends
name) tells me that I am their special
guest and that everybody wanted me
to join them. I accept his wonderful
offer immediately. I can see how my
arms become lovely wings, decorated
with special patterns. My body is full
of delightful colours. I am the most
charming butterfly ever!
Together with Brian, I start
my journey to the party, which takes
place on the biggest and softest cloud
in the sky. Every butterfly gasps
when they see me. I feel admired
and beloved. I start dancing, together
with my new friends. I notice small
and big butterflies. They all have
different patterns. One is black, one
is white, but they are all beautiful and
appreciated by the others.
The time to leave has
come. Brian brings me back to my
comfortable bed. I can feel the soft
pillow under my head, my warm
blanket and I fall asleep.

Hey beauties. Time for some of my makeup advice for beginners

or others who regularly wear it. Today I will be telling you the
mistakes you may not realize you are making. I hope when
reading this article it will help those who may have questioned
some of these or just wondered. So if you are interested, keep
reading! :D
1. Wearing the wrong foundation shade. I COMPLETELY advise
that you wear foundation to match YOUR skin colour. Wearing
one that is completely different from your colour makes you look
cakey and slightly strange. Wear your own shade!
2. Applying makeup on dry skin. Put lotion on before you apply
makeup. It makes your skin smooth plus helps the makeup stay
longer.
3. Wearing blue eyeshadow. Ok, there is nothing really wrong
with this, other than it looks really unnatural and if you want that
natural colour, blue eyeshadow is really not the best. Especially a
very vibrant blue.
4. Trying to plump your lips. No, just dont. It is strange and
unnatural. There is no need to make your lips bigger, just embrace
the natural shape! You are all gorgeous!! <3
5. Over tweezing your eyebrows. If you overdo it you will end up
with bald spots on your eyebrows. So be careful when doing it. (if
asked, I can do a article on how to make the on fleek eyebrows)
6. Wearing an entire eye pallet on your lids. What that means
is when you use soo many different bright and vibrant colours.
If were being honest, it looks strange. My favorite, out of the
ordinary, unnatural eye shadow is using a yellow. If you wanted to
combine other colours, you can maybe add a brown to the outer v
of your eye or the crease. But dont do the rainbow.
7. Trying to sculpt your face. The only way you can have another
shape face is by having surgery and none of you need that for you
are beautiful.
8. Using pencils on your eyebrows. Of course you can use them
but if you want to make it easier, use an eyeshadow that is close to
the colour of your eyebrows.
9. Wearing glitter. Trust me, it doesnt stay on your eyelids, but
it falls down your face and it is really really not good to wear so
dont go for it.

Hamlet Book Review

Hi CRCAP! Its me, Kitten Lover with some more

questions. I havent been getting many questions
lately, so please put more in because Im not
getting very many. And a big thank you to all
of the people who have submitted questions. I
hope all of my answers were of help. Also, make
sure you use neat handwriting. If I cant read it, I
recycle it. Thanks!

Yeah, so everyone is making a really big deal

about this writer William Shakespeare. Best writer in
the English language, yeah right. Apparently he died
recently ): . Anyway, I looked it up and so I know for a
fact that his best book is Hamlet. I decided to check it out,
and boy was I in for a ride !!
Not necessarily a good one tho. Half the word
he uses arent even real words !! Apparently theyre in a
language that he made up called Shakespearean English.
Luckily on one side of my copy of the book there are
translations, I assume written by Shakespeare to be
helpful; kind of counterproductive really.
Another confusing bit is that half of it is one long
poem with different voices with weird names like Laertes
and Guildenstern. However, sometimes the poetic voices
speak in prose, or at other points there are editors notes
like Hamlet stabs Laertes, so I guess its more of a story
then a poem. Its a very interesting and innovative medium,
but if Shakespeare was the greatest writer in the English
language, how come nobody else used this medium ?? Its
super confusing and you really need to get used to it.
As for the poetry part, none of it rhymes at all but
it does strictly follow a meter in which each line has 10
syllables. Sometimes one line will be split between two of
the voices, as well. Theres a lot of imagery and metaphor,
but sometimes it just doesnt make any sense !!
From a standpoint treating each voice as a
character and the book as a story, the plot doesnt really
make any sense. Its revealed that even before the play
starts, Hamlet has died, but then he comes back ?? Hamlet
the main character then talks to a ghost of Hamlet, so I
guess hes two people ?? Hes really mad at his dad for
marrying his mom, which is kind of mean, and I dont
exactly understand it.
Despite all its faults, I really liked this book. Im
looking forward to reading other books by Shakespeare,
like Macbeth, which is supposed to be really creepy. If
you want to read it, you should, I strongly recommend
it. Its a real bestseller, you can find it in most bookstores
and libraries. Its sometimes in the nonfiction section, so I
wonder if its a true story ?? Anyway despite the fact that
its so extremely popular I couldnt find any reviews of it,
so I guess thats why I wrote this article for yall!

Q: I want to get a dog, but my brother doesnt.

What can I do to convince him?
A: Well, if I were you, I would make a list of
all the great things about having a dog. When
I was convincing my mom to get a dog, thats
what I did.. Is your brother allergic to dogs? You
can get a hypoallergenic dog, like a schnauzer
or a poodle. If your brother is afraid of dogs, I
recommend getting an older dog, not a puppy.
Q: Will I die soon?
A: I think it depends on how old you are. Are
you under the age of 20? If yes, you probably
have a long life to live. Are you eating healthy?
If so, you probably wont die soon. Why? Do
you think youre going to die soon?

In the woods I found a dusty, buggy PreservationPod. I made
a pocket and put it next to my pod. I brought it to Preservco.
They took the file out of the pod, and put it in a new pod. I
began talking to it.
Dain, where did you go?
I went to Hefty Jeffys. Andrew sent me out into the woods. I
tripped and arrows fired into my heart. I was saved, but I got
lost. I went to the future. I saw that pods were taking over. I
ran back to the present and destroyed my pod.
I held my old-fashioned Preservco Prsrvr in my hand. I opened
the screen and took out my 3D rendering and the card. I put
it in my pocket, so I could get a PreservationPod, instead of a
prsrvr. I brought Dain to the police.
And that was my last mission.

The Martian Book Review

Ok, so I read a book called The Martian, and OMG
IT WAS SO GOOD!
It takes place around 3 or so years in the future. So,
there was a series of missions to Mars called Ares. Ares one
and two both got home fine. On the mission ares three there
was a dust storm with high very high winds! One of the
crew members named Mark Watney gets a antenna blown
at him during the dust storm. The antenna going through
him and his bio-monitor (The thing that shows how high
his heartbeat is or something) makes it seam to his crew as
though Mark had died. (Because the Antenna went through
the bio-monitor which makes it seem as though his heart has
stopped) The blow from the antenna with almost no gravity
evidently blew him back pretty far. With his crew having to
leave, and him Mark being stranded on Mars and the next
ares mission being in four years, it seems as if Mark Watney
wont survive. But there has to be a chance
Review: This book is super good! As of now it is my favorite

Paper Towns Book Review

Have you been looking for a great book to read?
Paper Towns, by John Green is one of the best books
Ive read all year. The book is written by one of the main
characters, Quentin Jacobs. Ever since they were little,
Quentin and his neighbor, Margo Roth Spiegelman, have
been great friends, but a few years ago, everything changed.
Margo started shutting Quentin out, and ignoring him
whenever she saw him at school, or around town. But, one
fateful night, Margo climbs into Quentins window, and
tells him that she needs his car. When asked why, Margo
just says, I have a few things I need to do. So, will you
drive me there, or not? Reluctantly, Quentin agrees. They
have a great time, driving around, and Quentin thinks that
they might have become friends again. But, the next day
its the same as its always. A few weeks pass, and Margo
doesnt show up for school. This isnt the first time. A few
days pass, and everybody starts to get worried. Everybody
knows that she ran away, though nobody wants to say those
words. In past times shes run away, Margo has left clues
to where she was, so Quentin and his friends search for
something- anything that might lead them closer to where
she is. I recommend this book to anyone whos ten and up,
or whos looking for an amazing book to read!

Hi, I am Marshmallow and here is a story.

So one day my friend brought huge marshmallows
to my house. I saw one and i squished it then I
said Cuuuuuuuuute, its a MArsHmAlloW! I
wrote a face on it. I thought it was cute. One day,
I said maybe I should draw a MARSHmeeLOw,
thats cute! I did and it was cute. Then I said
one day at CRCA marsheemeeloo is running
for President! He won - I was so excited!
Also, in case you didnt know, there are these
thiiiiings called CHOCLATAYS. Theyre mean
and against marshmallows and they try to
EEEEEEAAAAATTTTT marshmallows!!! But
thats OK, only if theyre not alive! Unfortunately,
chocolatays eat alive marshmallows.

Ways to get all As

Hey lovelies! Ever wanted those perfect grades,
all As? You are at the right place! Keep reading
to hear my tips inspired by Girls Life to get those
A grades! ;)
1. Think for yourself: Dont. Let. People. Control
you. I cant stress over this enough. Do the
thinking on your own. If you are confident with
an answer dont change it. Even if your crush
tells you you are wrong. This has happened to
me before, but I stuck with my guts.
2. Prioritize homework: I used to not think this
but schedules really really help me out! Having a
schedule will help you keep track with homework
so you will have everything in on time.
3. Form Relationships with teachers: Now, now,
not the romantic ones, but if you want to get
good grades and do well, you can easily do that
by staying on a teachers good side.
4. Stay Motivated: As the year goes on it can be
hard to stay on track of things and you can lose
your motive. Dont do that! keep that motivation!
Keep goals visible to get good studying habits
and also relieve stress.
5. Go in for extra help: If you are struggling with
a subject and really need those grades to go up,
go and ask a teacher for some help and get oneon-one time.
6. Set some goals: Focus on something at a time.
Goal #1; Get A on science quiz. Goal #2; Eat a
some fruits at lunch. Setting goals also gets rid of
stress you may have.
7. Read: READINGGGG!!!! This is important
as my mom tells me this everyday. Read at
least 30 minutes to an hour a day. It helps your
vocabulary.

8. Write things down in a planner: Listen to me here,

planners are life savors. You can get one at Barnes
and Nobles or Staples for cheap prices if your school
doesnt already give you one. Or, just get a new one to
be different and stand out ;)
9. Do extra credit: These can really help your grades,
trust me. As they say, go the extra mile.
10. Sleep well: You want to keep all that knoledge in
your head, than go to bed around 9-9:30 and wake up
around 6:30. If homework is keeping you up, try and do
some of it in a study hall or maybe go to bed at say, 8,
then wake up at 6.
11. Do homework to the best of your ability: Set aside
plenty of time for your homework.
12. Make study packets: Now, my school actually gives
us study packets which really help me, but if your school
doesnt, I suggest you make some to get all that knowledge
in your head. One, its really good to remember things
by writing them down, and then, two, you can bring it
anywhere you go!
13. Help from friends: If your friend is better at a subject
than you, you can always go to them to get some help!
14. Use flashcards: Again. LIFESAVER. Flashcards are
AMAZING, and are super duper helpful to get those
facts in your head.
15. Dont Stress: Keep calm. Do your best ;)

Exploding Piggy Comics

Hi CRCAP. I wanted to tell you a little more about the Exploding Piggy comics. I started them on the rides to and from Hebrew School. I dont know
who came up with the idea. The piggy explodes in each comic, and they are basically about a pigs life. It is up to you to decide if it is the same pig or
if they are different pigs (I will not mention a name or names of the pig or pigs). I hope you enjoy them!
