Located at Pier 86 at 46 Street in Hells Kitchen, The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum showcases some of
the most awe-inspiring (and frankly formidable) pieces of maritime and military history in the Nation.
Among its exhibits are the USS Growler, a Concorde SST, an A-12 Supersonic Reconnaissance Plane,
NASSAs shuttle Enterprise and, of course, the USS Intrepid.
The shuttle was evaluated for safety, then ceremoniously flown to John F. Kennedy airport in late April, 2012.

From there, Enterprise was transferred by barge to the Air, Sea (and now Space) museum on the 3 of June.
Three aircraft had to be moved to the Empire State Aero sciences Museum in Schenectady just to make room
for the space shuttle Display. It opened to the public Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Museums new Space
Shuttle Pavilion.
SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
Over the years, the Intrepid Museum has hosted a number of events of social and historical significance.
Between 1989 and 2004, the Museum maintained an exhibit of the USS Edson, a large-scale Naval
destroyer. It was eventually returned to the United States Navy, and can now be seen displayed at the
Saginaw Valley Ship Museum in Michigan.
Following the events of 9/11, the Intrepid was made into a temporary on-field FBI headquarters to
investigate the attacks.
Additionally, the Intrepid Museum is often used as a community and national event space. It has hosted
concerts for the MLB and the NFL and served as the hub over the years for Fleet Week events, among
plenty of others.
