Raul was a porter and a guide before he started Alpaca and made over 750 treks to
Machu Picchu. While on the mountain he saw many companies teams wearing
improper shoes or suffering from too much weight on their backs. He has been a
champion of the porter and fights to get better treatment and facilities for them.
Over the years, things have improved but we believe more can be done for these
men who make these amazing adventures happen.

The Inca Trail is one of the most famous and popular treks in the world. We are a fully licensed tour
operator for this tour. But this isnt the only amazing hike around the Andes. Alpaca Expeditions has
many options, including treks to Salkantay or Ausangate Mountain. If you are interested in visiting
some off the beaten path ruins like Vilcabamba or Choqueriaw, we can take you there as well. Even
for those who enjoy hiking and not camping, we have an overnight trek visiting Huchuy Qosqo ruins or
a full day of hiking the Inca Trail and then overnight in a hotel in Aguas Calientes. If you are up for the
challenge, we have an amazing adventure waiting for you.
Our Day Tours are all done privately by an Alpaca Expeditions guide. Because of that, we are able to customize our tours to meet your
needs. If you prefer shopping at the amazing Pisaq market for a little longer or you havent had enough Inca history and need more time
spent in Ollantaytambo fortress, its not a problem. We can create a customized itinerary (including hotel bookings if you like its up to
you!). We are here to help no matter how big or small your needs are.
And dont forget, we can bring you to Machu Picchu by train as well. The ruins are amazing to visit no matter if its by foot or rail.
EQUIPMENT
All our tents are Eureka 4-man Timberline tents, shared by only 2 people.
We bring private, eco-friendly portable toilet tents for the use of our
trekkers. Every trekker receives a small pillow, foam mat, rain poncho and
daypack cover. We rent out Black Diamond Trekking Poles and
Thermarest 3 inch inflatable sleeping pads for those who are interested.
We have the best equipment!
Alpaca Expeditions is dedicated to making our own community healthier and stronger.
In 2014 we started a social project by supporting the 204 children that live in the town of Wakatinku, at the base of the
Sacred Valleys largest peak, Ausangate (elev. 21,000 ft/6400 mtrs). Some of them come from as much as 2 hours away
to attend school and we provided them with school supplies and some basic hygiene items such as soap and
toothbrushes. We promised to come back and help them with a tree planting project. A year ago we helped the villagers
plant seeds from the only surviving tree which is indigenous to this area, the Queua tree (Polylepis, also known as the
Andean Oak).
Around Christmas time, we returned to help them plant these 3000 seedlings in the surrounding farmlands of the village
and school. Forty-five villagers helped the Alpaca Expeditions team put them in the ground. Within 2-3 years, these trees
will begin to contribute to this area with their natural benefits.
Every February, when the Inca Trail is closed and the city is quiet, we spend time on the mountains helping to clean the
trails we trek every day. We walked slowly and cleaned the trail to Huchuy Qosqo and we felt lucky to be chosen to help
clean the Inca Trail by the National Park (SERNAP) in Peru. We will make sure the Inka Trail has never been cleaner.
We take pride in our homeland and hope we can help the people and environment around us thrive!
