Straight acrylic polymer dispersion for exteriors.

Acronal IA 734 ap is a Straight acrylic anionic emulsion polymer, which is
specially designed for premium exterior applications. The fine particle size
with narrow particle distribution of the polymer ensures good adhesion. The
cross linking gives best of the mechanical properties without compromising
on dirt pick up resistance. It is free from plasticisers and solvents

Areas of application
The main field of application for Acronal IA 734 ap is as a binder for exterior
architectural coatings. The product is design for very high dirt pick up
resistance, hence good for dusty & industrial areas.
Acronal IA 734 ap can be formulated in gloss to flat paints varying PVC
levels.
Processing
Acronal IA 734 ap can be made up in the usual manner with a high speed
mixer. It has a good compatibility with fillers and pigments.
Dispersants & Wetting agents
Ultradispers W 30 or Pigment Disperser N are recommended for dispersing
titanium dioxide. Water-soluble polyphosphates may be included in the
dispersant phase if a large amount of water is in the formulation.
Pigments & Fillers
Acronal IA 734 ap has a high pigment binding capacity & exhibits very good
compatibility with a wide variety of pigments. Typical fillers such as chalk,
powdered quartz, micro dolomite, kaolin and fine-grained sand may be used.
Thickeners
Acronal IA 734 ap has excellent thickener response with cellulose ethers,
polyacrylates such as Latekoll D ap, PU thickeners such as Collacral LR
8989 & Collacral LR 8990, or bentonites and polysaccharides.
Coalescents & Defoamers
Lusolvan FBH or Texanol (<5%) are preferred as well as dibutyl glycol and
white spirit. The coalescent should be incorporated into the pigment paste. A
commercial defoamer (0.3 1%) can be used. Suitability and efficiency of the
defoamer should be tested.
Plasticizers
If an exceptionally flexible film is required for special applications, plasticizers
such as Plastilit 3060, chlorinated paraffins or phthalates may be added.
Preservatives
Although Acronal IA 734 ap is protected from attack by micro-organisms, It
is necessary to add preservatives to the finished products in order to ensure
good storage stability & Antifungal/algal activity.
Others
Propylene glycol is suitable for increasing the wet edge time but temporarily
impairs the resistance to blocking and increases the sensitivity to water.
Tinting and colour can be achieved using standard pigments used in
Architectural coatings. In all cases the compatibility with and effects on the
performance of the coatings should be thoroughly checked.
Manufacturers must perform their own careful tests in developing
products containing Acronal IA 734 ap, because tests on our part cannot
embrace the great variety of factors that may influence results during
manufacture and application, e. g. the mutual compatibility of the ingredients,
the mixing mechanisms, and the adhesion to various substrates. Testing
should include storage at ca. 50 C in order to ensure that the viscosity
remains stable at this temperature.

Safety
General
The usual precautions for handling chemicals must be observed. These
include the measures set out in the guidelines of the organizations
responsible for safety at work, in particular, good ventilation and fume
extraction at the workplace, care of the skin and the wearing of eye
protection.
Safety Data Sheet
When using this product, the information and advice given in our Safety
Data Sheet should be observed. Due attention should also be given to the
precautions necessary for handling chemicals.
Labeling
According to all the data at our disposal, Acronal IA 734 ap does not need to
be labelled as a dangerous substance or preparation as defined in the
relevant local directives according to their current status.

Storage
Acronal IA 734 ap must not be allowed to come into contact with
metals or alloys that are susceptible to corrosion. It is very important to
ensure that containers are kept tightly closed or that the airspace in storage
tanks is kept saturated with water vapour. Exposure to frost or sources of
intense heat must be avoided.
Acronal IA 734 ap contains sufficient preservative for transportation.
More preservative must be added during subsequent storage to protect the
material against microbial attack and tank hygiene measures must be
adopted (cf. our Technical Information Bulletin Storage tanks for polymer
dispersions).

Acronal IA 734 ap has a shelf life of about 12 months.
