GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

Over a decade by now, HITK is one of the leading engineering colleges in


eastern India. It has the right infrastructure and ambiance for students to
exhibit their talents. Continuous teaching learning process in HITK is
exemplary and that makes it the leader amongst equals.

OBJECTIVE OF THE FDP


The objective of this program is to equip teaching faculties with upcoming
technologies in the field of Image Processing and Data Mining. This
program will impart hands on experiences to all the participants in Open
Source Tools which are going to be the future direction of Information
Technology.

Setting up Cluster and Cloud in Open Source Environment; Image
Processing (Enhancement, Filtering and Segmentation) and Data
Mining (Decision Tree, Clustering, Nave Bayes Classifier and Social
Network Analysis (SNA)) Algorithms hands-on using Open Source
Tools - Octave and R; Running Octave and R on Cluster and Cloud
Environment; Integrating Octave and R with C codes, MPI and
HADOOP.

The course is open to faculty members of engineering colleges, research
institutes and universities across India.

Prof. M Nordin Zakaria


Prof. M Nordin Zakaria received his Ph. D. degree in 2007 from School of
Computer Science, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He joined the Computer and
Information Science Department, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia in
2004 where he served as the Head of High-Performance Computing Center from
January 2011 to December 2014. His research interests are in the fields of Social
and Human Simulation, Evolutionary Computing, Non-Conventional and HighPerformance Computing, Computer Graphics and Scientific Visualization,
Engineering Applications.

Mr. Mohammad Fazli Ahmat Jalaluddin


Mr. Mohammad Fazli Ahmat Jalaluddin received his B. Tech. in Bachelor in
Information Technology (Major in Security Technology) from MMU Malaysia
and is executive at High Performance Computer Centre, Universiti Teknologi
Petronas, Malaysia. Mr. Fazli Ahmat is having extensive hands on experience on
deployment and handling a large number of projects based on cloud and grid
computing as well as handling open source environment.

Prof. Amitava Chatterjee


Prof. Chatterjee B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from
Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, in 1991, 1994, and 2002, respectively. In
1997, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University,
where he is currently serving as an Associate Professor. In 2003, he received the
Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship and visited Saga
University, Saga, Japan. From November 2004 to November 2005, he was with
the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan, on a Japan Society for
the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Foreign
Researchers. In MarchMay, 2004, and in MayJune, 2009, he visited University
of Paris XII, Val de Marne, France, as an Enseignant-Invit (Invited Teacher). Dr.
Chatterjee's key research interests include fuzzy based nonlinear control,
computer vision, robotics, image processing and pattern recognition, intelligent
instrumentation, signal processing, and stochastic optimization techniques Dr.
Chatterjee has co-authored a book titled Vision Based Autonomous Robot
Navigation: Algorithms and Implementations and co-edited two books.

Prof. Partha Basuchowdhuri


Prof. Partha Basuchowdhuri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of
Computer Science and Engineering, Heritage Institute of Technology from 2010.
His primary research interests include Social Network Analysis and Data Mining.
His recent works have been accepted for publication in foreign conference venues
like PAKDD, ASONAM, ICMLA and IEEE GrC. He received his Bachelor's
degree in Electronics and Telecommunication from Bengal Engineering College
(presently known as IIEST, Shibpur). He received his Master's degrees, one in
Computer Science and the other in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, from
Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, USA. His Master's degree thesis
work at LSU was funded by NSF. After completing his Master's degree he moved
to Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), Ireland to continue his research in
social network analysis.
