PBL SESSION 2

QUESTION 1
The types of feasibility test typically used by the system
analyst to evaluate feasibility of the project. Provide
examples of questions that need to be addressed in each
feasibility tests to determine whether or not to proceed
with the new inventory system project.
ANSWER :
A feasibility study is an analysis undertaken to determine
whether

or

not

system

request

is

worthy

of

further

consideration. The general objectives of feasibility study is to find

out if an information system project can be done and to suggest
any possible alternative solution. A feasibility study should
provide management with enough information to decide on
whether the project can be done, whether the final product will
benefit

its

intended

users

and

organization,what

are

the

alternatives among which solution will be chosen and also is there

a preferred alternatives that can be done. There are four main
types

of

operational

feasibility

study

feasibility,

which

economic

are

technical

feasibility

and

feasibility,
schedule

feasibility.
The first types of feasibility study is technical feasibility. A
technical feasibility involves determining whether a proposed
information system is possible given the current state of

technology. A project is feasible if the technology is avaolable and

capable of meeting user requirement. This feasibility concerns
with the availibility of suitable equipment and adequacy of the
equipment to satisfy organization needs.
There are many types of question that need to be addressed
to determine whether or not to proceed with the new inventory
system project. One of the example question is are the necessary
recources available to proceed. This types of question are needed
because the necessary resources can reflect the information
technology departments skill and expertise are available

to

proceed with the new inventory system project. The other

example question are is the new system are absolutely necessary
or not. The new system are necessary for the growth of the
depatments too improve their efficiency and effectiveness of the
activity that are conducted.
The second types of feasibility study are

operational

feasibility. This operational feasibility is a function of human

resources of the project, which concern with how the system
operate and how users will accept it when the system are
developed and implemented. Operational feasibility covers two
aspects which is technical performance and acceptance of users.
Technical performance determining whether the information
system can provide the right information at the right place and
time. While the acceptance of users means complete acceptance
of the new system by the users.

One of the example question in operational feasibbility are

whether the organization is willing to provide training to users and
full support from the management. This is because by provide
training to employees can increase their performance in finishing
the task given at the right time and also can increase the
efficiancy and effectiveness in the mangement itself. The next
example question are will the customers be better served or not.
A customer is one of the important person that can evaluate the
performance of the management.
For

example,If

the

management

receive

negative

comment or feedback from the customer it shows that there are

weeknessess that need to be improve in the management.
Next, economic feasibillity can also be referred to as cost or
benefit analysis. It involves determining whether a proposed
information system will yield benefits its exceed its cost. This can
be means that by comparing the costs with the benefits and
savings that are expected from the system. This feasibility
concerns with the return on investments in the new information
system of the management. In order to evaluate the investment
is by using an accounting technique to analyse its cost and
benefits such as net present value and the return on onvestment.
One of the example question are whether the system cost is
effective or not. The management must be able to see the value
of the investment it is pondering before committing to an entire
system study. The economic feasibility will review the expected

costs to see if they are in-line with the projected budget or if the
project has an acceptable return on investment so that the cost
can be reduced. By reducing the cost of the existing system, it
automatically can increase the level of satisfaction among the
customer and also can increase the level if efficiency in the sales
margin by the way of improve the effeciency in the existing
system.

Last but not least, schedule feasibility is question if there is a

specific time deadline, and if so, can the system be operational
before the deadline. The example of question are whether the
new system be implemented in a reasonable time period or not.
The new system can be implemented in a reasonable time period
with the advancement of the technology, and everything that can
be done more easier, cheaper, more accurate and even faster
compared to tasks done manually as in the existing system.

QUESTION 2
The characteristics of quality information system .
ANSWER :
A quality or good information is that which is used and which
creates value. Besides, a quality information system is relevant
for its purpose, sufficiently accurate for its purpose, complete
enough for the problem, reliable and targeted to the right person.
For example, the information system that is understandable to the
user.
There are some characteristic that relates to the quality of
infromation system. One of the characteristic are ensure that the
new system is better than the existing system. This can be
measure by comparing the new system with the existing system
whether the weeknessess in the existing system have been

solved or not. For example, the new system should be tested first
in order to make sure whether the system have already been
updated and wheter the weeknessess have been improved or not.
The next characteristic are the system should be effective.
This can be measured by whether the system are fit between the
technology and task and also the users. For example, before a
new system are implemented, the management should make sure
that the system can cooperate well with the technology and the
management can used the new system in completing their job
effectively. In terms of users, the system are effective when the
users are comfortable with the new system compared to the
existing system.can use the new system more easily, comfortable
and simple to understand compared to the existing system.
The other characteristic are the system should be user
friendly. This characteristic can be measured by the system are
easy to use, learn and understand and also well communicated.
For example, the system are called user friendly when the new
system are introduced, the first-time user are able to adapt on the
spot on the new system. Besides, the new system also are
convenient

to

learn

and

also

the

new

system

are

well-

documented for both self references and learning purpose.

An addition, the quality information system is also when the
data

are

accurate.

This

can

be

measured

management can prevent from making wrong in

by

when

the

the business

decision that resulting to the business loss. This can be obtained

through frequent data entry for each business transactions. For

example, inventory control system uses frequently updated data
in terms of price, quantity of available stocks and also description
to ensure the accuracy of the information system.
Last but not least, the system should be flexible. This can be
measured by when the system are easily maintened. For
example, if there is any problems regarding the new system, the
users can and able to overcome the problems as well as making
corrections or redo their task to arrive at the correct answer.

QUESTION 3
The rules for creating process, data store, source/external
entity and data flow symbols in data flow diagram.
ANSWER :
Data flow diagram is the most widely used graphic
presentations in the analysis phase. The data flow diagram is a
graphic

presentation

of

external

entities,

data

movement,

processing function and also data stores. there are certain rules
that the users need to flow when doing the data flow diagram in
terms of the symbol used in the data flow diagram.

Firstly

and

foremost,

for

the

creating

process

or

transformation of data, it use a symbol of cycle. This symbol of

cycle indicates that what a system does actually and the it should
consist of one single process or a specific action. For example,
cash payment cycle. The rules in drawing the symbol of circle is
the name and number should be appear inside the circle. Besides,
the name should be clearly label and can be understandable. In
addition, the first word in the process symbl in the Intermediate
and Elementary DFDs must begin with a verb followed by a
descriptive noun.
Next, data store use symbol of parallel line which is refers to
where data are being stored until used by the other parts or
process. The process can enter data into a data store or retrieve
data from the data store. Example for data store such as invoice
file. The rules in drawing the data store is the line should be in
parallel and data store symbols should not be appear in the
Context DFD.
The next symbol used in data flow diagram is symbol of
rectangle that indicates the external entity. An entity can be a
person, department, system or organization out of system that
sent data to or receive data from the system. In other words, the
system interacts with these entities. Example for an external
entity are banks, customer and creditors. The rules in drawing this
symbol is the name should be label correctly.

Last but not least, symbol of an arrow that are used to

indicate the flow of data. An arrow pointing to a data store
indicates writing or updating to the data stores. Besides, an arrow
that coming out of the dta stores shows a reading process.
Examples for the flow of data are the completed job order form
and repair or services. The rules in drawing this symbol are the
arrow direction for the data flows must be correct. Besides, the
crossing of lines will not be allowed in this diagram and also the
entities and data store can be duplicate where necessary.

QUESTION 3

5. The inventory file should
be deleted and not appear
in the Context Data Flow.
6. The arrow should be
adjusted as straight line.
