NOTE ON BEFORE STARTING REPAIR -1/2
Discharge procedure
1 Remove the AC power cord. MAIN C.B
2 Connect a discharging resistor at an end of lead wire that has
D101
clips at both ends. Connect the other end of the lead wire to
metal chassis.
3 Contact the other end of the discharging resistor to the
positive (+) side (+VH) of C101. (For two seconds) 3 4
C101 C102
4 Contact the same end of the discharging resistor as step 3 to
the negative (-) side (-VH) of C102 in the same way.
(For two seconds)
5 Check that voltage across C101 and C102 has decreased to
1 V or less using a multimeter or an oscilloscope. 2 2
Note: The reference numbers (C101, C102) of the electrolytic capacitors can change depending on the models. Be sure to check the reference numbers
of the charging capacitors on schematic diagram before starting the discharging work.

<TUNER Adjustment>
1. VT Adjustment (LW)
Requirements
• Measuring instrument: Digital multimeter DIGITAL MULTIMETER
Test points: VT, GND
• Adjustment point: L942 V
2. VT Check (MW)
Requirements Same as above.
Requirements:
1) Connect the digital multimeter between VT and GND.
2) Set the function to MW, and tune the receiving frequency of the unit at 1,602 kHz.
3) Check that the digital multimeter ranges under 8.0 V.
4) Tune the receiving frequency of the unit at 531 kHz.
5) Check that the digital multimeter ranges above 0.5 V.
4. CLOCK Check
FREQUENCY COUNTER
Requirements
• Measuring instrument: Frequency counter Hz
Test point: CLOCK (IC801 24PIN), GND
1) Connect the frequency counter between CLOCK and GND. CLOCK
GND
2) Set the function to MW, and tune the receiving frequency of the unit at 1,602 kHz.
3) Check that the frequency counter ranges at 2,160 kHz 45 Hz.

<MW/LW Adjustment>
Make the following preparations for MW/LW adjustment.
Preparations
• Standard Signal Generator (S.S.G.) / Loop antenna / Oscilloscope / Millivoltmeter / Dummy resistance (6Ω)
1) Connect the unit and measuring instruments as shown in the diagram. below
2) Position the loop antenna connected to S.S.G. and the one connected to the unit 60 cm apart.

7. IF Adjustment (MW)
Requirements: As instructed in preparations.
• Test point: SP OUT (Lch, Rch)
• Adjustment point: L802
1) Set S.S.G. to AM; carrier of 999 kHz with 30% modulation, and source at 1 kHz, position output at maximum.
2) Tune the receiving frequency of the unit at MW 999 kHz.
3) While monitoring the waveform at 1 kHz through the oscilloscope, lower the output level of S.S.G. maximum (till a certain
degree of noise is monitored).
4) Adjust L802 so that the millivoltmeter points maximum.

Make the following preparations for DECK section adjustment.
Preparations
Measuring Equipment: Audio Signal Generator / Attenuator / Wow and Flutter Meter (Frequency Counter) / Oscilloscope /
Millivoltmeter / Dummy resistance (6Ω)
Test Tape: TTA-100 / TTA-300 (or TTA-310, 320) / TTA-200 / TTA-602 / TTA-665 (or equivalent recording and

1) Connect the probe CH1 of the oscilloscope to TP8 (Lch) and CH2 to TP9 (Rch).
TP9
2) Set V mode of the oscilloscope to ADD.
3) Insert the test tape (TTA-300) to DECK 1. Forward and play back the middle part of the
tape, and adjust the head azimuth adjustment screw (FWD) so that the waveform achieves
its maximum level when 10 kHz is played.
4) Reverse and play back the middle part of the tape, and adjust the head azimuth adjustment
screw (RVS) so that the waveform achieves its maximum level when 10 kHz is played.
5) After adjustment, secure the screw with glue (1600 B).
6) Apply the above steps 3) and 5) to DECK 2.

At the third press, rotation stops.
∗1 When Focus Search operates continuously more than 10 minutes, the protection circuit is activated due to heat generation of the
driver IC.
In this case, turn off the power, wait for approximately 10 minutes so that heat is released, and then restart.
∗2 When the Forcus Search fails three times, the gain is switched for CD-RW at the fourth time.
∗3 Be careful not to damage the gear because the sled motor rotates while the FF or RWD button is being pressed even if the pickup is
located in the innermost track or the outermost track.
