Benefits of Globalization to India
Globalization is a process of social-economic integration across the globe
and is one of the most hotly debated topics in an India. Globalization is a total
mindset in which the entire world becomes a single market. India has many
benefits from globalization in business and economy .These benefits are: - the
flows of information, ideas, and technologies; increase of trade in goods and
services; movements of capitals and financial flows; increase in job markets. On
the other hand, the globalization has many bad aspects from the exploitation of
economy to kill Indian diverse culture. Some people fears that there is more
social and cultural integration than the economic integration. However, there are
more benefits than the bad effects for everyone to create new opportunities.
Globalization has some bad aspects such as multi-national companies
exploits Indian economy by creating inequality of distribution of wealth .The
spread of western culture by globalization is undermining the well-being of
Indian diverse culture. Globalization kills Indian diverse culture by merging it
into western culture.
According to Akande, Cultural globalization..destroys diversity and
displaces the opportunity to sustain decent human life through an assortment of

many different cultures (1). The western culture has long lasting bad effect on
Indian culture by breaking the bonds of love, affection, and understandings
between Indian blended and extended families.
Globalization causes exponential growth in the flows of information, ideas, and
technologies in India. Globalization increases the communication and interaction
between Indian and foreign peoples. It causes in the development of technology by
sharing ideas.
According to vaidhyanathan in his book Googlization of everything the
globalization causes the rapid development in information technology such as
computer hardware and software.
Globalization is a driving force in development of information technology.
Improvements in the early 1990s in computer hardware, software, and
telecommunications have caused widespread improvements in access to
information and economic potential. These advances have facilitated
efficiency gains in all sectors of the economy. (158)
Moreover, the fast delivery of goods across the world at low cost possible
with the development of technology. Because of the globalization in India, the
sharing of information and technology causes huge development in information
technology and India becomes worlds largest software provider.

Globalization increases the Indian trade of goods and services with other
countries. Indian goods such as tea, cloths, spices, iron, and leather are selling
in foreign markets at good prices. Goods that India used to export are
traditional items like tea, jute, cloth, leather, Iron, cashew, spices, and variety
of finished goods like handicrafts, ready-made garments, and processed foods
etc. increased substantially (Pradhan 78).
Globalization expands the movement of capital and financial flows with
developed countries. Capital flows can take either the form of foreign direct
investment or portfolio investment. For developing countries like India the

Singh3

preferred alternative is foreign direct investment (Rangarajan 4). With the

globalization, worlds largest companies such Microsoft, Cisco, Apple, and IBM
set up their development center by investing huge amount of money.
India has many benefits from globalization from the spread of information
technology to become worlds largest software provider. On the other hand,
there are some negative effects of globalization such as decline in cultural
diversity and the values of Indian extended families. However, there are more
benefits of globalization in long run to become India as a developed county not
only economically. But also developed country as politically and socially in the
world.
