His mother, Jean Hermione, a violinist and pianist, gave birth to him on 22 nd March
1948 in South Kensington, London, England. He was the elder son of William Lloyd
Webber, who was an organist, composer and the director of the London College of Music.
He also has a brother called Julian, who is widely regarded as one of the most creative
cellists and musicians of his generation. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is an English Composer
of musical theatre and is arguably the most successful composer of our time.
Early Life
Young Andrew Lloyd Webber learned to play various musical instruments at home
(piano, violin and French horn); he had begun playing the violin at aged 3 and began
composing at the early age of 6. He published his first pieces a suite of six pieces at age
9 and also was able to play the organ and assisted his father during performances.

In 2006 the Sunday Times Rich List 2006 ranked him the 87th-richest Briton with
an estimated fortune of £700 million and was ranked fifth in the 2008 Telegraph's list
"the 100 most powerful people in British culture. He currently owns seven London
theatres including the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the London Palladium.
Professional Career
In 1965 he met lyricist Tim Rice and dropped out of school to compose musicals
and pop songs. In 1968 he had his first
success with the West End production of
'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat'. Andrew Lloyd Webber shot to
fame in 1971 with the opening of his rock
opera 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Lloyd Webber's
spectacular string of hit musicals beginning in
the 1970s helped transform London into the
major centre for new musicals. His scores
include those for Jesus Christ, Superstar
(1971), his first major success, also in
collaboration with Rice; Evita (1978), a
fictional biography of Eva Perón; The Phantom of the Opera (1986; Tony); Aspects of
Love (1989); Sunset Boulevard (1993; Tony); and The Woman in White (2004), based on
the classic Wilkie Collins suspense novel. His show Cats (1981), based on poems by T. S.
Eliot, was the longest-running production in Broadway history until The Phantom of the
Opera set a new record in 2006.
