1.FOOTBALL PITCH
1.EL CAMPO DE FTBOL

Un campo de ftbol (football pitch soccer field) es la superficie

de juego para la prctica del ftbol. El campo es rectangular en su
forma. Las lneas laterales se denominan en ingls touchlines.
Las otras lneas que lo delimitan, mas cortas, se denominan goal
lines. Aunque el trmino goal line es a menudo dirigido a la parte
de esta lnea que se encuentra entre los dos postes, en general se
refiere a la lnea completa, desde una bandera de corner hasta la
ms cercana. En contrapunto, el trmino byline se usa para esta
parte de la lnea que se encuentra entre los dos postes de la
portera.
Dos superficies rectangulares son delimitados enfrente de cada
goal line:
- por un lado, la goal rea, que consiste en el rea formada
por dos lneas que salen de la goal line, a 5 metros de cada
poste, y por otra lnea paralela a 5 metros de la goal line.

- Por otro lado, la penalty rea, que se delimita a partir de dos

lneas que salen de la goal line, a 16 metros de cada poste,
y por otra lnea paralela a 16 metros de la goal line,
El penalty mark se encuentra a 11 metros del centro de la
portera, es el punto donde se tiran los penaltis. La penalty arc es
una lnea curva cuyo radio es de 9.15 metros del penalty mark, y
marca la distancia a la que deben permanecer los jugadores del
penalty mark en un lanzamiento de penalti, excepto el lanzador y
el portero contrario.
El centre circle es una lnea situada a 9,15 metros del centre
mark, delimitando la minima distancia de los jugadores en un
saque inicial.
La halfway line divide el campo en dos.
Durante los partidos de ftbol, se pueden encontrar referees
(rbitros) y sus assistant referee (asistentes o lneas), as como
dos coaches (entrenadores), uno por equipo, junto con sus
assistant coaches (entrenadores asistentes) y medical staff
(personal mdico). Y, por supuesto, hay soccer players, once por

Soccer has many different positions and many different names that
come along with them.
Each player position has his own very specific task, from defending
against opponent attacks to scoring.
To simplify, we will categorize the football positions into four: the
goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders, and forwards.
El ftbol tiene muchas y diferentes posiciones y cada una de ellas tiene su
nombre especfico asociado a sta.
La posicin de cada jugador viene dada por su tarea en el campo, desde
defender contra los oponentes a marcar los goles.
Para simplificar, dividiremos las posiciones del ftbol en cuatro: el portero,
los defensas, los medios y los delanteros.

GOALKEEPER (GK)
PORTERO

The goalkeeper is simply known as the guy with gloves who keeps
the opponents from scoring. He has a special position because only
him can play the ball with his hands (provided that he is inside his
own penalty area and the ball was not deliberately passed to him by
a team mate).
Aside from being the last line of defense, the goalkeeper is the first
person in attack. That is why keepers who can make good goal
kicks and strategic ball throws to team mates are valuable.
The goalie has four main roles: saving, clearing, directing the
defense, and distributing the ball. Saving is the act of preventing the
ball from entering the net while clearing means keeping the ball far
from the goal area.
The goalkeeper has the role of directing the defense since he is the
farthest player at the back and he can see where the defenders
should position themselves.

Distributing the ball happens when a goalkeeper decides whether to

kick the ball or throw it after making a save. Where the keeper
throws or kicks the ball is the first instance of attack.
El portero es conocido comnmente como el to de los guantes que
protege la portera del ataque adversario. Es una posicin especial ya que el
portero es el nico jugador que puede coger la pelota con sus manos
(siempre y cuando se encuentre dentro de su propia rea de penalti y la
pelota no se la haya pasado un compaero con cualquier parte del cuerpo
menos la cabeza).
Adems de ser la ltima lnea de defensa, el portero es el primer jugador de

DEFENDERS
DEFENSAS
A defenders task is to keep the ball away from the keeper, prevent
opposing attackers from passing or receiving, and block shots.
Defending requires a player to be well-fit, hard-working, and quick at
anticipating the movement of the opponents.
Defenders must protect the keeper: they should think of the goalie
as an important person that opponents are not allowed to get near to.
Typically, teams play with four defenders.

La tarea de un defensa es mantener el baln lejos del portero, prevenir a los

delanteros contrarios de pasar o recibir, y bloquear tiros. Defender requiere
que un jugador est concentrado y preparado para anticiparse rpidamente
al movimiento de los oponentes.

Center-back/center-half/central defender (CB)

Defensa Central

In a four-player defense, the center-backs are the two defenders in

the middle. They are erroneously called center-halves, because in
an obsolete football formation called the 2-3-5, the 3 players are
designated with that name. As tactics evolved, the 3 dropped to
center-back but still retained the name center-half.
A center back must be strong, fearless, and good at timing tackles.
Being tall is an advantage for a center-back as it allows him to win
the ball in the air, an essential skill in corner kick situations.

En una defensa de cuatro, los centrales son los dos defensas que se

Full-back (LB, FB)

A full-back is a defender positioned on the side. They are either

classified as left back (LB) or right back (RB). The defenders
positioned between them are called centerbacks.
The full-back is tasked to prevent opponents from attacking on the
sides. He must be quick and must be able to prevent opponents
from making a cross. He is often assigned to mark the opposing
winger.

Un zaguero es un defensa posicionado en el lateral. Estn clasificados

como Zaguero derecho y zaguero izquierdo. Los defensas posicionados

A wing-back is a full-back that advances up to the opponents goal

end. He runs the whole length of the football pitch: he defends the
flanks like a dedicated full-back and attacks like a winger.
This is the most physically demanding position on the field.

Un lateral es un zaguero que puede avanzar hasta la lnea de gol del

oponente. Su radio de accin es la longitud completa del campo de ftbol:
defiende los flancos como un zaguero y ataca como un lateral.

Sweeper (SW)

A sweeper is located at the back of the defensive line, just in front of

the keeper. This position is no longer popularly used in the modern
game but was popular in the past especially with the catenaccio
system of Italy.
A sweepers task is to clear the ball in case it breaks through the
defenders. He does not man-mark an opponent so he can collect
loose balls or go upfield to bring the ball forward in attack.

Un lbero est situado detrs de la lnea defensiva, justo delante de los

defensas. No es una posicin popularmente utilizada en nuestros das pero
era comnmente usada en el pasado, sobre todo con el sistema de
catenaccio italiano.
La funcin del lbero es despejar la pelota en caso de que atraviese a los
defensas. No cubre ni marca a los oponentes con el fin de recoger balones
sueltos o subir con la pelota controlada al ataque.

MIDFIELDERS
MEDIOS
Midfielders link the offense and the defense: they bring the ball up to
the forwards in attack and prevent the ball from reaching the
defenders when not in possession. You can think of them as the
telephone line that connects two people.
Without a solid midfield, it is very difficult for the forwards to score
and the defense is often put at risk of the opponents attacks. Below
are the many types of midfielders and the roles they perform.

Los medios unen la seccin atacante con la defensiva de un equipo: llevan

la pelota a los delanteros en ataque y evitan que la pelota llegue a los
defensas cuando el equipo no tiene la posesin del baln.

Defending/Holding midfielder (DM)

A defending or holding midfielder is stationed just in front of the

defensive line. His responsibility is to prevent the ball from reaching
the defensive line. He must be skilled at intercepting passes,
tackling the ball, and positioning themselves strategically.

Central/Box-to-box midfielder (CM)

A central midfielder is stationed at the center of the field. If he plays

both offense and defense, he is called a box-to-box midfielder. A
box-to-box midfielder does the following: create opportunities for the
striker and stop the opponents attacks. Stamina, technical ability,
and relentless hard-work are the attributes of this type of midfielder.

Un centrocampista organizador esta situado en el centro del campo. Crea

oportunidades para el delantero y detiene los ataques del equipo rival. Se
requiere resistencia, tcnica y mucha concentracin y trabajo para realizar
estas funciones.

Attacking midfielder/playmaker (AM)

The attacking midfielder is an advanced midfield player who is

primarily inclined to attack. He must have excellent ball control
abilities and tactical awareness.
A playmaker occupies the same position as an attacking midfielder
but performs a different role. This guy is considered the brain of the
team, the most skilled player who orchestrates the attack and
distributes the ball. A playmaker must be good in decision-making
and as the football saying goes: when you dont know what to do
with the ball, you pass it to him.
El centrocampista ofensivo es un mediocampista inclinado al ataque. Debe
tener excelentes habilidades de control de baln y buena visin tctica.

Wide midfielders/wingers (LW, RW)

Extremo

The winger plays the same role as the attacking midfielder but he
focuses his attacks from the side. This position is often utilized in
odd formations like 4-3-3 and 4-5-1.
Since the winger often plays between the midfield and the offensive
line, he is sometimes classified as a forward. A player who occupies
this position must be fast, have excellent dribbling abilities, and
accurate with passes.
A modern winger is typically flexible and can attack from the center,
which makes him take over the role of a forward. Ryan Giggs and
Garrincha are two excellent examples of wide midfielders.
El extremo tiene el mismo rol que el mediocampista ofensivo, pero centra
sus ataques en los lados. Su posicin es usada frecuentemente en sistemas
como el 1-4-3-3 o el 1-4-5-1.

FORWARDS

Forwards are the most celebrated players in the team because they
are often the ones who score goals. Since there are many ways to
score a goal, there are also many types of forwards.
Accuracy, head ability, and ball control are the typical qualities of a
forward. A forward does not have to as much work as the midfield or
defense but he must be able to convert when his teammates give
him the ball.

Los delanteros son los jugadores mas afamados del equipo porque a
menudo son ellos los que consiguen los goles. Como hay muchas maneras
de marcar, tambin hay muchos tipos de delanteros.
Puntera, capacidad de remate de cabeza y control del baln son las
cualidades tpicas de un delantero. Un delantero puede no tener tanto
trabajo como en el medio o en la defensa pero debe ser capaz de convertir

Center-forward/striker (CF)

Center-forwards are positioned closest to the opponents goal. They

have two roles: first, they score goals through passes from
teammates; second, they distract the defense to give room for the
attacking midfielder, winger, or withdrawn striker to attack.
A striker must be brilliant at receiving and controlling the ball, must
be strong, and capable of winning the ball in the air. Skills at playing
with the back to the goal is a prerequisite.
Los delanteros centro son los que estn posicionados ms cerca de la
portera rival. Tienen dos funciones: deben marcar goles a partir de los
pases de sus compaeros, y deben distraer a los defensas contrarios para
abrir espacios con el fin de que los centrocampistas ofensivos, extremos o
mediapuntas ataquen.
Un delantero debe ser brillante al recibir y controlar un baln, debe ser

Withdrawn striker/deep-lying forward/second forward (WF)

Mediapunta

The withdrawn striker plays behind the forward. It is typical

in attacking football strategies to put him as the main scorer while
the person in front of him serves as decoy. The deep-lying forward is
often utilized in the 4-4-2 formation.
A deep-lying forward must have excellent passing skills as he is
expected to feed the striker and at the same time possess technical
abilities with the ball as he often receives back passes from the
striker.

El mediapunta juega detrs del delantero centro. Es tpico de las estrategias

de ataque ponerle como el principal goleador mientras que el jugador
delante suyo sirve como distraccin. El mediapunta es utilizado a menudo
en formacines 1-4-4-2.
Un mediapunta debe tener una excelente habilidad de pase porque se
supone que debe jugar con el delantero centro, pero a la vez debe tener
buenas habilidades tcnicas porque recibir frecuentemente pases de ste.
