Secretary Report
Sheila will be out of town for the next meeting and will conference call into the center.

Dawn Mayo announced that the Center's Valentine Party would be on the 12th of February. She also
advised that she had obtained services of a liaison to help schedule trips to new places: the Historic
Society in DC, Woodlawn Plantation for the Needlework Craft show, Mount Vernon, the White House, the
Pentagon and others.

Dawn requested suggestions for a "Big" trip for which there could be up to a $1,200 subsidy to the
Center. This could help defray the cost, for example, of tickets to a Kennedy Center event using Fastrans
in the local area, or transportation costs for an event outside the Fastrans 50 mile limit.

Dawn also gave an update on installing the mirrors in the dance exercise room. The Board of
Supervisors may be reluctant to fund the $1,800 cost. Other sources of funds could be the Friends of
Fairfax County Senior Centers, a personal donation, or the Advisory Council. Bill Cowdrey will coordinate
with the Friends of Fairfax County Senior Centers to see if they can help.

The Sunshine Store operation was discussed. Irmagard will be assisted by others during the Store's
hours, and Lucille will help bundle up unsold items to give to other charities.

Shirley will interview two members for inclusion in the next "Spotlight on..." members' poster.

The Center will hold a members' "Cultural Fashion Show" on March 30th. We wish to recognize the
diversity of backgrounds of the center's attendees. Members will be encouraged to wear clothing
representing their various cultures. The Advisory Council will provide refreshments and cover other
expenses.

A suggestion was made to post the Advisory Council's meeting minutes in the Center for all to read, since
the meetings are open to all An email consensus of the Council members will be requested, and if
reached, posting will begin with the acceptance of the January minutes.

The next Advisory Council meeting will be February 22nd, 12:30 p.m. at the Center.

Meeting concluded at 1:25 p.m.
