Appreciation

Message from the Board of Directors

Practice being
happy. Its the
closest thing to
Enlightenment. Not
crazy silly happy,
but content.
Peaceful. Ok with
what is. This is
happy.
~ Tulku Karzang
Rinpoche

Founded in 1995, Kathok Centre is entering into its 20th year of operation. It's been
another year of construction, renovations and reaching out. Renovations to the log
house that is Lingtrul Rinpoche's residence are close to complete. We are happy
that Rinpoche can now come and feel at home.
Work on the Golden Shrine is continuing with volunteers working to build the
thrones on which to place the two new statues.
Re-financing of the Centre's mortgage has been approved so that the monthly cost
can be lower and easier to meet, though this will mean it will take possibly 20 years
to pay off. This did however give the leverage to purchase the Community Kitchen
building to make our members and visitors more comfortable and want to stay
longer!
Its been a busy and exciting year and the six of us feel lucky and inspired to donate
our time, energy and resources to help our Teachers fulfill their vision of sharing
peace and the spark of enlightenment with all sentient beings. Teresa Gagnon,
Melissa White, Dave McBride, Trevor Jones, Margret Holland, Penny McGuire

Spiritual Practices and Special Events Again this year, some of our practitioners, who have
been trained by Lingtrul Rinpoche and Tulku Karzang, volunteered to facilitate regular practices in the
Main Temple and Golden Shrine according to the tradition of this lineage and following the lunar
calendar. These included introductory open meditation classes, Ngondro, Green Tara, Guru Rinpoche
Tsok and Guru Yoga practice/kora (walking meditation).
2 day and 1 day Silent retreats where offered every 6 - 8 weeks with 15 40 people in attendance.
We are noticing people coming more often and new people joining in all the time. More and more
people are recognizing the need in their own lives to be more accountable for their own energy and
want to begin to train their minds. Some start with the Open Meditation classes and some jump right
into the traditional Tibetan meditation practices. The number of active
annual KC Members has tripled since 2012!
Upcoming Special Events include a 2-3 day Vajrasattva Retreat to be led by
the Very Venerable Lingtrul Rinpoche, with some assistance from
volunteers from Tashi Choling. Projected date is July.

Kathok Centre is now on the Map at

the Qualicum Highway sign and at the
beach. Many tourists and locals come
to the Centre to enjoy a quiet break
from the regular bustle of their daily
lives.

Capital Projects
Completed:
Private driveway installed for Jane and David
Ayers
Renovations of log home almost ready for V.V.
Lingtrul Rinpoche. The kitchen floor and one
cabinet are being finished off and then only
the downstairs bathroom remains to be
renovated
A Lama's retreat cabin has been built with the
inspiration that H.H. Getse Rinpoche may
come and do extended retreat and in doing so
raise the energy of the Centre and whole
Vancouver Island.

Fundraising Events
The 2014 Dinner and Dance at Errington Hall
was fun for everyone but a lot of work for
volunteers so for 2015 we replaced this with
two smaller events. This will maximize our
ability for community outreach as we reach out
to new audiences, but will also prevent burnout
of our volunteer base and continue to raise
money and awareness for the Centre.
The first event was a Wine and Cheese Silent
Auction at Thalassa Restaurant, Qualicum Golf
Course. It was a great success raising $3,000. We
are considering ways and locations to make this
even better for next year.

Capital projects underway include:

1) Renovations to Rinpoche's kitchen and
downstairs bathroom to make it more
comfortable for him to host visitors.
2) Overall building maintenance; painting of
log house roof and main temple
3) Forest management
4) Trail management
5) Water management/conservation
6) Clean up orchard and remove fences
7) Grounds maintenance and beautification
8) Build Puja and text shelves behind Guru
Rinpoche statue and complete thrones for two
smaller statues
9) Complete installation of services to
Community Kitchen

April 11th, 2015 was the Family Dance. This

year we offered a caf, Tibetan gift store and
silent auction in addition to the live Palace
Band. Much dancing and fun was had by all and
$1,000 was raised.
The Second Annual PQ Light Tour was a great
success with four times as many houses on the
Tour! There was great feedback from people
loving the Guided Tours and enjoying taking
themselves on the tour.
In the summer, dates TBD, Tibetan Cultural
Festival will be held over several days. This
might include mini-events like a night of films
about Tibet, or arts and crafts for the kids, or
other activities to attract the community to the
Centre and to raise funds.
