planning to make a programme about language colleges, including
yours. She has asked you for a proposal about what aspects of your
college should be included in the programme.
Read the extract from Ms. Linehans email below. Then, using the
information appropriately, write a proposal to her, outlining what the

ideas would work best.

Now write your proposal to Ms. Linehan, as outlined above. You should
use your own words as far as possible.

Part 1: Proposal
Introduction
The aim of this proposal is to provide ideas for the development of a TV
program on language colleges. Additionally, it addresses the topics and
subtopics that should be considered in order to make this program more
appealing.
Ideas to be considered
There is a great deal of matters your program could go into. From the list
provided, I consider that the topics holding the highest importance are, first of
all, students. I suggest that we interview students, and try to make them the
focus of the TV program. Secondly, I think that the different departments each
college has should be considered, putting particular emphasis on the language
class. Finally, it is important to take into account social life, such as sports,
music, drama clubs, and so on.
Why would these ideas work?
I think that the success of a TV show lays on the focus that is given.
Considering that this program is going to be on student life, I consider that it is
important to count on students opinions and experiences. Consequently,
students are not only going to participate in the TV program, but also it will
make other students to watch it.
Conclusion
The ideas proposed should be taken into account due to the students
involvement they imply. Considering students needs make them participate
more actively.

Part 2: Review
The Harry Potter saga, consisting of seven novels, was written by the British
author J.K Rowling, and it is one of the most successful franchises of the last
century. These novels narrate the adventures of Harry Potter, along with his
best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
The story begins when Harry, an orphan living with his awful relatives,
discovers that he is a wizard. Also, he learns that he is famous due to the fact
that Voldemort, an evil wizard, killed his parents, but was inexplicably unable to
kill him. Eventually, he becomes a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry, where he meets his friends and has most of the adventures
described in the series. Throughout the books, each one representing a year in
Hogwarts, we get to witness Harrys growing and emotional development from
childhood to adolescence. He is set to accomplish a number of challenges, in
which he has to overcome pain, loss of beloved ones, fear and so on.
I think it had such a great impact on me because it is almost real. The
environment created by the author is completely apart from the real world, yet
it is intimately connected to it. Unlike other fictions that make the reader feel
as if the story was completely unlikely to happen, the Harry Potter saga makes
you feel that it is not crazy to believe such world might actually exist.
Additionally, the values implicitly taught by these books are transversal. The
main topic of the series is love. Love as the most powerful magic of all. The
love his mother had for him is what saved Harry Potter when he was a baby,
and it is love what saves Harry throughout the novels. The series also deal with
courage to confront your fears, friendship, loyalty, and so on.
I think it would definitely appeal to children nowadays, and in the future. Harry
Potter is beyond excellent. It makes children believe in magic, in love, in
friendship, and in things that children need to believe these days. Things that
everyone needs to believe in.
