INTRODUCTION
Drilling and blasting is predominant method of
rock excavation in many construction projects such
as traffic,mining and hydraulic tunnels.Thismethod
of excavation involves low capital investment
andpossesses the characteristics of high progress
rate forunderground excavation works [1, 2].
Compatibilityand feasibility to any sudden required
alteration indimension of excavation profile and/or
geologicalconstraints also adds to the popularity
and suitability ofthe drilling and blasting method
over other methods of excavation.

BLAST
DAMAGE
ASSESSMENT
AT
SINGOLI-BHATWARI PROJECT
Investigation of blast induced damage in
underground excavation is carried at SingoliBhatwari Hydro-electric power Project (SBHPP).
Construction of 99 MW SBHPP runof-river
scheme is undertaken by L&T-ECC at
Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. The
project envisages construction of 11.2 km long, 4.9
m diameter, D-shaped Head Race Tunnel (HRT) to
divert water from river Mandakini . Rock cover
above HRT varies from 100m to 350m.
