Collars

Collars are style features which are attached to the

neckline. They act as a focal point on the garment and
can be large, small, wide or narrow. Collars can be in the
many form such as a square, round, or v-shaped, they
can be sewn high or low on the neckline. Collars can be
fixed permanent or can be detachable.
A Collar is made from one straight fabric or two shaped
fabrics that are stitched together around the outer edges.
A collar has to be treated by nipping the edges, turning
and pressing. The size of the collar is determined by the
size of the garments neckline.
Collars can be classified as flat, stand and turn-over.

Flat Collars
A Peter Pan collar is an example of a flat which lies flat on the
shoulder. It is circular in shape.

into the underside of the collar through small slits but sometimes
permanently sewn in place.
