Preface

Both Vatsyayana, author of the famous Kamasutra, and I share a

few things.
Both of us are white-haired, and past sexual temptations.
Both of us have tried to restore the fragmented works to their
original wholeness.
Vatsyayana compiled the seven limbs of the teaching on kama,
and condensed all the material in one brief volume. The first
formulation -- in one thousand chapters, based on the god
Brahmas original -- is attributed to Nandi, servant of the god
Shiva.
I have drawn my slim volume from the poetry and poetics
created during the third Cankam By combining it with the then
existing Samkhya, Tantra and Yoga methods, I have tried to
restore its original wholeness.
Both of us have composed our works in sutra form. This has both
advantages and disadvantages.
