END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR APS Corporate 2000++, a VSOFT Services Private Limited SOFTWARE
PRODUCT, herein referred as SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
IMPORTANT-READ CAREFULLY : This VSOFT Services Private Limited End-User License Agreement
('EULA') is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or a single entity) and VSOFT Services Private
Limited for the VSOFT SOFTWARE PRODUCT identified above, which includes computer software and may
include associated media, printed materials and 'online' or electronic documentation ('SOFTWARE PRODUCT').
By installing, copying, or otherwise using the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, you agree to be bound by the terms of
this EULA. If you do not agree to the terms of this EULA, do not install or use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT; you
may, however, return it to your place of purchase for a full refund.
SOFTWARE PRODUCT LICENSE
The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is protected by copyright laws and intellectual property laws and treaties.
The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is licensed, not sold.
1. GRANT OF LICENSE.
This EULA grants you the following rights:
a. Software Product. VSOFT grants to you as an individual, a personal, nonexclusive license to use a copy of the
SOFTWARE. If you are an entity, VSOFT grants you the right to designate one individual within your organization to
have the right to use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT in the manner provided above.
b. Storage/Network Use. You may also store or install a copy of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT on a storage device, such
as a network server, used only to install or run the SOFTWARE PRODUCT on your other computers over an internal
network; however, you must acquire and dedicate a license for each separate computer on which the SOFTWARE
PRODUCT is installed or run from the storage device. A license for the SOFTWARE PRODUCT may not be shared or
used concurrently on different computers.
2. DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS.
a. Not for Resale Software. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is labeled 'Not for Resale' or 'NFR,' then, notwithstanding
other sections of this EULA, you may not resell, or otherwise transfer for value, the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
b. Limitations on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation, and Disassembly. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or
disassemble the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by
applicable law notwithstanding this limitation.
c. Separation of Components. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is licensed as a single product. Its component parts may not
be separated for use on more than one computer.
d. Rental and Transfer. You may not rent, lease, transfer or lend the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
e. Support Services. VSOFT may provide you with support services related to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT ('Support
Services'). Use of Support Services is governed by the VSOFT policies and programs. Any supplemental software code
provided to you as part of the Support Services shall be considered part of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and subject to
the terms and conditions of this EULA. With respect to technical information you provide to VSOFT as part of the
Support Services, VSOFT may use such information for its business purposes, including for product support and
development. VSOFT will not utilize such technical information in a form that personally identifies you.
f. Termination. Without prejudice to any other rights, VSOFT may terminate this EULA if you fail to comply with the
terms and conditions of this EULA. In such event, you must destroy all copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and all
of its component parts.

3. COPYRIGHT.
All title and copyrights in and to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT (including but not limited to any images, photographs,
animations, text, and 'applets' incorporated into the SOFTWARE PRODUCT), the accompanying printed materials, and
any copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT may be owned by VSOFT or its suppliers. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is
protected by copyright laws. Therefore, you must treat the SOFTWARE PRODUCT like any other copyrighted material
except that you may install the SOFTWARE PRODUCT on a single computer. You may not copy the printed materials
accompanying the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
4. INDIAN GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS.
The SOFTWARE PRODUCT and documentation are provided with RESTRICTED RIGHTS. Use, duplication, or
disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph (c)(1)(ii) of the Rights in Technical
Data and Computer Software clause at DFARS 252.227-7013 or subparagraphs (c)(1) and (2) of the Commercial
Computer Software-Restricted Rights at 48 CFR 52.227-19, as applicable. Developer is VSOFT Services Private Limited /
217 Shanti Industrial Estate, S N Road, Mulund West, Mumbai Maharashtra.
5. EXPORT RESTRICTIONS.
You agree that neither you nor your customers intend to or will, directly or indirectly, export or transmit the SOFTWARE
or related documentation and technical data.
LIMITED WARRANTY
LIMITED WARRANTY. Except with respect to the REDISTRIBUTABLES, which are provided 'as is,' without
warranty of any kind, VSOFT warrants that the SOFTWARE PRODUCT will perform substantially in accordance with
the accompanying written materials for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of receipt.
CUSTOMER REMEDIES. VSOFT's and its suppliers' entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be, at VSOFT's
option, either (a) return of the price paid but not more than Maximum Retail Price, or (b) repair or replacement of the
SOFTWARE PRODUCT that does not meet VSOFT's Limited Warranty and which is returned to VSOFT with a copy of
your receipt. This Limited Warranty is void if failure of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT has resulted from accident, abuse,
or misapplication. Any replacement of SOFTWARE PRODUCT will be warranted for the remainder of the original
warranty period or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer. Outside India, neither these remedies nor any product support
services offered by VSOFT are available without proof of purchase from an authorized source.
NO OTHER WARRANTIES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, VSOFT AND
ITS SUPPLIERS DISCLAIM ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT
NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR
PURPOSE, WITH REGARD TO THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY GIVES YOU
SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS. YOU MAY HAVE OTHERS, WHICH VARY FROM STATE/JURISDICTION TO
STATE/JURISDICTION.
NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT
PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL VSOFT OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY
SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING,
WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS
OF BUSINESS INFORMATION, OR ANY OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR
INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT, EVEN IF VSOFT HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY
OF SUCH DAMAGES. BECAUSE SOME STATES AND JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION

Preface
APS 2.5 a Devanagari Software, consisting of Devanagari Fonts, Key Board Layout and Key Board
Drivers, took the graphic and design industry by storm. APS 2.5 was developed on DOS platform. Since
its introduction in 1989, it has earned a place in computing industry for its applications in Indian scripts
and has become the most powerful software product developed for IBM - PC, till today.
With the introduction of a user friendly operating systems on Personal Computers viz., MS Windows, it
was necessary to provide a solution for Indian Scripts in Windows Environment too. We have introduced
APS 3.0 and APS 3.5 versions for Devanagari Scripts under Windows Environment. Clarity of fonts,
variety of fonts and user convenience through APS Software has been widely accepted by the industry.
Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs through Rajbhasha Vibhag has been stressing the need of
Bilingual usage in all the offices for secretarial needs. APS Corporate 1.0 / APS Corporate Office 1.0 had
been devised and developed to cater such needs.
APS Corporate 2000++ comes with all the features of previous versions of APS Corporate Office such
as Devanagari fonts, keyboard layouts, keyboard drivers and interface to standard packages viz. MS
Office, Lotus Smart Suite and Data Base Management Systems. Thus text preparation, table preparation
through spreadsheets, presentation for Training and Display in Devanagari Script through Power Point
and Free Lance and Data Processing through Fox Pro is made possible through APS Corporate 2000++.
Bilingual software development, using development tools like Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual Fox Pro,
Power Builder, Borland Delphi etc. is made possible under
APS Corporate 2000++ package.
Corporate segment including financial institutions have found APS Corporate product a suitable package.
Along with the basic needs of having text typed in Indian scripts, other features like sorting data of
Indian scripts, DOS based files conversion to Windows based and conversion of files from other vendors
format to APS & vise-versa, built in rajbhasha dictionary for government have been incorporated to meet
the needs of time.
APS Corporate 2000++ contains a built in Word Processor Chitragupt. All the basic editing facilities for
bilingual text formatting are provided. Chitragupt contains a powerful dictionary containing all the
official words and phrases from Rajbhasha dictionary. Further, additional dictionary is also provided.
User can customise this dictionary as per his needs. Bilingual email using a html format is possible
through Chitragupt.
User friendly and powerful utility, for those who find it difficult to type in Indian scripts, named
Shabdankan is provided with the package. Using this utility you can type in English and the text is
converted in Indian scripts depending on selected language.
Installation of APS package has been done on International Standard Basis. Hence, an operator
conversant with Windows Environment will be able to install this package.
Manual provides instructions for achieving desired Bilingual results. Technical explanation has been
provided to explain necessary setup Environment. Manual provides instructions and guidelines for
general purpose corporate as well as DTP Bureau users.

Introduction
Necessity of Windows
MS Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroup 3.11, Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT
products of MICROSOFT are already in the market. Basically it is WYSIWYG {what you see
(on screen display) is what you get (on printer output)}. Microsoft is using 32 bit processing
from Windows 95 onward operating system.
Windows uses scalable typeface technology which helps the users to create adorable layouts,
for precision and overall presentation, of any jobwork.
Windows support almost all the printers i.e. Dot Matrix, Ink-Jet, Laser
(Non-Postscript and Postscript) and Imagesetters available in market. Window based packages
are user friendly and have the facility of importing and exporting, which allows user to use
various packages simultaneously for a single job. Windows is multi tasking, multi user
environment, by which many applications can concurrently work.
Windows allows the use of many international packages available in market thereby increasing
efficiency. Vendors like Microsoft and Lotus have developed package like Microsoft Office
and Lotus Smart Suite which have components like MS Word
( Word Processor) MS Excel (Spreadsheet), MS Power Point (Presentations), MS Access
(Database) and Lotus AmiPro (Word Processor), Lotus 1-2-3 (Spreadsheet) and Lotus
Freelance Graphics (Presentation) respectively to cater various needs of corporate segment.

Indian Scripts for Windows


APS Corporate 2000++, developed by a team of Technocrats, provides the use of Indian
Scripts in the above referred software to fulfill the need of corporate segment.

Overview of APS Corporate 2000++ Software
APS Corporate 2000++ is a interface to the 32 bit Windows environment. Thus packages like
MS Office, Lotus SmartSuite, FoxPro can work in Bilingual mode using this package. It has an
unique bilingual font facility with auto matching font sizes, easy toggling between Roman and
Indian Scripts. Utilities like Multiple Keyboard Layouts (Specially designed Anglo-nagari
Keyboard - for users who do not have the knowledge of Indian Script typing), Keyboard
Layout Viewer, Format Conversion Wizard, Rupantar, Sorting Utility, Rajbhasha Shabdavali,
Chitragupt, Shabdankan, Keypad, Keyboard Designer, APSTools are provided with the
software.

Key Features
Desktop Manager
A unique movable & resizable desktop manager which manipulates all the given below
features at a click of mouse is always available at the top of the window.
Bilingual Typing
User can type bilingual text with matching font sizes for Roman and Indian Scripts without
changing font by using toggle switch. Toggle switch is so designed that it retains the speed of
the operator while bilingual typing.
Multiple Keyboard Option
APS Corporate 2000++ supports most of the keyboard layouts (Typewriters and Computer Text
Editors) prevalent in the market for generating text in Indian Scripts.
This facilitates the user to operate in Bilingual mode from day one, by selecting appropriate
layout. Selecting appropriate layout also increases throughput and efficiency.
Keyboard Layout Viewer
An on-line Keyboard Layout viewer is provided for viewing the layout of keyboard being
used. Layout can also be printed.
Format Conversion Wizard
APS Corporate 2000++ software allows users to convert text generated through various DOS
based text editors (Akshar, Shabdaratna, Modular, Prakashak, LE (.ISC), Devyani) prevalent in
the market through Format Conversion Wizard utility.
Rupantar
It provides interface for conversion of Windows based text, rtf, database Devanagari files from
other vendors format to APS format and vise-versa. File support for Winky, Akruti, ISCII and
UNICODE etc., has been provided.
Sorting Utility
Sorting of APS text from any application can be done using this utility.
Rajbhasha Shabdavali
Complete Rajbhasha Shabdavali with a powerful search engine for easy access and a user
friendly interface for searching and copying Devanagari data to other applications.

Chitragupt
Word processing in Text and Rich text format with all basic editing facilities are provided in
Chitragupt. It has a built in dictionary for translation of text from English to Devanagari and
vice versa. User can update the dictionary. Email in Devanagari script or save files in HTML,
Built-in Spell check in Hindi, ISCII and UNICODE format is supported. Editor provides all
facilities for bilingual text preparation.
Shabdankan
Shabdankan is a user friendly and powerful utility for those who find it difficult to type in
(Devanagari). In this utility one can type in English and the text is converted in Devanagari.
The translated text can be copied to any other application and also the created / edited file can
be saved.
The utility translates the text using the typing sequences some of which are displayed on the
right hand side of the screen. However, a complete list can be obtained using the help menu
Any text, which is typed in this sequence using Shabdankan, can be opened in this application
and is translated in the Devanagari. The utility has editing options similar to that of other word
editor.
Keypad
This utility provides a bilingual typing using mouse in any application window.
Keyboard Designer
Keyboard Designer helps a user to create a customized keyboard of his/her choice.
APSTools
APSTools are Add-ins for automating tasks, concerning Indian Languages in MS Word and
MS Excel. This menu is an add - on feature and gets directly invoked in MS Word and in MS
Excel while working with APS Corporate 2000++.

Product Registration
VSOFT assumes that user agrees to the license conditions. Please furnish all details in the
enclosed registration card and return the same to VSOFT at the earliest. Please note down the
Registration Number, supplied with the package, for future reference and technical support.
Registration ensures user for entitlement to receive upgrades of existing APS products and
new products as & when launched, at a reasonable cost. Users will be informed about
upgrades of APS package from time to time.
Remember to inform your Registration number for any kind of support.
In absence of registration, support may not be provided.

Installation of APS Corporate 2000++
Please ensure before installing APS Software:
a. Please close all the applications before commencing installation of APS Software.
b.

Machine should be virus free, otherwise APS Software may not be installed properly.

c. Installation of APS software is based on international standard basis.

A.

Installation of APS Corporate 2000++ for Stand Alone machine


Select Start, Run and type D:\setup.exe (where D is Drive Letter).
a.

Setup program will start with a welcome screen as shown in figure # 2.1.

APS Corporate 2000++ software can be installed on Stand-alone, Server and Client machine.
Select the appropriate type of installation as shown in figure # 2.2

Please read the License Agreement as shown in figure # 2.3, carefully before proceeding. Click
on I Accept to continue the installation.

Setup program will ask for the installation directory as shown in figure # 2.4. Setup will install
APS Corporate 2000++ files to C:\Program Files\APS2PP directory by default.

If you prefer to install APS software in different directory, change the path using Change
Directory button. The following screen as shown in figure # 2.5 will be displayed. Enter the
path and press OK. Setup program will not proceed until proper path/directory is given.

Select the Language options to install. Select English or Language numeral option depending
on which numerals you want to use and use personal Dictionary to install in APS fonts as
shown in figure #2.6.

Setup will ask to specify the program group name as shown in Figure # 2.7.
Press Continue to start copying the files.

Selection of all Languages is compulsory for Server type of Installation. Select English or
Language numeral option for numerals as shown in figure #2.10. Selection of an option Use
new personal dictionary is for maintaining the individual dictionary for adding new words to
the dictionary.

APS Desktop manager appears on the screen, as soon as windows is operational.

Using APS Desktop Manager

APS Desktop Manager is a convenient and efficient way to work with APS software. APS
Desktop Buttons are provided for on-line functionality while working with other applications.
Please note that, for basic bilingual functionality, the APS Desktop Manager should always
appear on the screen. All the APS utilities can be loaded using this Desktop Manager. Please

ABOUT APS
This button provides information about the APS software like package name, version number,

Script Indicator Button


Script indicator button is used for toggling between English and Indian Scripts. The default

Select Keyboard Layout
This button allows to select appropriate Indian keyboard layout depending on the language
selected.

Keyboard Layout Viewer


Keyboard layout viewer button displays the currently selected keyboard layout. Selecting the
particular layout will automatically change the layout displayed. Detailed explanation is given
under Utilities chapter.

Keyboard Designer
Keyboard Designer helps a user to create a customized keyboard. To run Keyboard Designer
select "Keyboard Designer" Program Item from Program Group of APS Corporate 2000++. This
utility is not available in desktop manager.

Format Conversion Wizard


Format Conversion Wizard is a utility to convert files from various DOS based text editors to
APS format. Detailed explanation is given under Utilities chapter.

Rupantar
This is a very unique utility to convert text (.txt, .rtf) as well as database (.mdb, .xls ) prepared
in other vendors font format to APS Mono or Bilingual font format and vice versa. Multiple
files of a single vendor/font format can be converted in single conversion operation. Rupantar
supports 18 popular vendors font formats like Akshar, Akruti, ShreeLipi, Sulipi, ISCII etc.

Sorting Utility
Sorting of APS Devanagari text from any application can be done using this utility.

Rajbhasha Shabdavali
Complete Rajbhasha Shabdavali with a powerful search engine for easy access and a user
friendly interface for searching and copying Devanagari data to other applications. User can
update this dictionary to add words/ phrases of own choice.

Chitragupt
Text preparation in Text and Rich Text format is provided. It provides all basic facilities of text
editing. One dictionary is provided for user to create word as per his requirements. Both
dictionary are used for providing Devanagari equivalent to English word. Similarly English
equivalent to Devanagari is provided through these dictionary. One can send Email in Indian
language as well as can save file in HTML format. Saving text file in ISCII format in also
provided. Spell Check is provided under Chitragupt.

Shabdankan
Using Shabdankan one can type in English and the text is converted in Indian scripts
depending upon the language selected. The utility translates the text using the typing
sequences, of which are displayed on the right side of the screen. However, a complete list can
be obtained using the help menu. Any simple text file, which is typed in this sequence, can be
opened in the application and is translated in the Indian script. The utility has editing options
similar to that of other word editor. Using this utility user can send bilingual email.

Keypad
This utility facilitates the user to type bilingual matter in any application using mouse.

When you click this button, a menu appears showing the following list

Mail Merge
To merge the MS Excel Devanagari database in MS Word document, click Font (Format
Menu), select APS font and click Default. Click Mail Merge (Tools menu) to start the Mail
Merge Helper. In Mail Merge Helper window click Create, and then click Form Letters as
shown in figure # 4.8. Then click Active Window button for current active document file.

Uninstallation and Reinstallation
In case of following circumstances
a. Reinstall Windows OS or upgrade due to improper working
b.

Machine is affected with virus & you have to format the hard disk

c.

If hard disk is replaced.


First uninstall and install APS Corporate 2000++.

Uninstall
Please ensure before uninstalling :
a. APS Desktop Manager is closed, if not exit it.
b.

Please close all the applications before commencing uninstallation of APS Software.

To uninstall APS software,


a. Click APS Corporate 2000++ Uninstall from the program group, or from control panel, Add/
Remove programs option select APS Corporate 2000++ to uninstall the software. Select 'Yes' to
continue uninstallation shown in figure # 6.1.
Deselect the option Remove personal dictionary if you want to use the words added to
personal dictionary, after reinstallation of APS software.

b.

This will uninstall the files from appropriate directories. The following message as shown in

Keyboard Designer

Keyboard Designer helps a user to create a customized keyboard. The user simply inputs the
keys of his choice and save it to an '.ekc' file extension. This file can be loaded into the APS
Task bar enabling him to get the access of the keyboard made by him. User can create totally
new keyboard or can derive new keyboard from existing keyboard layouts.
Creating a new keyboard
To create a new customized keyboard follow the steps below :
1.

Start keyboard designer, click 'File' form file menu. Click on 'Make new' and a sub menu
appears containing the list of languages. Click on the language of your choice.

2.

To insert characters to the keys, click on 'Character Map' or 'Pre-Defined List' button to
view the list appearing below. Select the position of the key to which the characters are to
be inserted.

3.

Drag the desired character from the list with the help of mouse (make sure that the drag
option is on) and drop it to the key of your choice, above. Notice that the selected
character appears on the key at the position which was selected.

Note: To put more characters in a single key position, drag the desired characters into the
textbox appearing above the character list. Then drag this textbox to the desired key
position.
If the drag option is off then click the key where you want to insert your characters and then
simply click the character of your choice. The character will appear on the selected key
position.
To put more characters in the selected key position, type the desired characters into the
textbox appearing above the character list. Click on 'Put Text' button to insert the character
into the selected key position.
Saving a keyboard
Click 'File' form file menu and then click on 'Save' to save the keyboard. If it is a new keyboard
then a dialog box opens, prompting to save this keyboard. Enter a suitable name and the path
for the keyboard and then click save. Likewise if you have modified a previously saved
keyboard and then clicked on save then that keyboard gets updated without a prompt.
Note: In some cases if the file does not get saved, type '.ekc' after you mention the name of
your file without any spaces.
Opening a keyboard
Click 'File' from file menu and then click on 'Open', a sub menu appears containing the list of
languages. Click on the language of which you would like to open the keyboard. A dialog box
opens, browse and select the file you would like to open by clicking on the file. Click open to
load the file on the Keyboard Designer.
Loading From predefined keyboard
By clicking this menu button you get a drop down list of all the available keyboards for the
selected language along with the 'Custom Keyboard' option Select any one of the listed
keyboards and load it into the Keyboard Designer to make changes to this layout.
Note: Changes made in this keyboard will not alter predefined keyboards or any of the
custom keyboards, it only loads the data of that keyboard into the interface.
Working with Custom Keyboard
APS Corporate 2000++ lets you design your own keyboard for all scripts supported by an
application. You can design the keyboard of your choice using Keyboard Designer. You can
save designed keyboard as a (keyboard name) .ekc file. To load the custom keyboard, click on
"Custom Keyboard" menu item. "Load Keyboard" dialog box will be displayed, to select the
keyboard (.ekc) file of your choice.

1. In Type/Font Conversion select the type of conversion by selecting the
source and destination vendors along with the direction of the conversion.

Click on Add File(s) button to insert the files for conversion (Make sure that the Files tab
is selected)

Select all the files from dialog box, which are to be converted.

4.

After adding all the desired files click Convert button to convert them.
Note: To add files from multiple folders, repeat steps 2 and 3.
Warning: Be sure that the source vendor/font format selected corresponds with source format
of the file(s) selected for conversion.

Font Gathering
If your source file(s) are in Rich Text Format then, the application will prepare a list of fonts
and ask you to Select all those fonts which you would like to convert. If the single file
option from option menu, is checked then the application will prepare the list from a single file
i.e. the first RTF file in the list of source file(s). If the All file(s) option is checked then the
application will prepare the list from all the RTF files in the list.
Font Selection options for Monolingual to Bilingual conversion
If the source file (.rtf) contains monolingual font and English fonts (Arial, Times New Roman)
and user can convert file in single bilingual font. Follow the steps as given below.
a)

Select Language font and English fonts to be converted as shown in figure #7.6

Press OK to convert Text of monolingual font in selected bilingual font format as well as it will
set same bilingual font for selected English fonts. For example if source vendor file contains
`Hindi text typed in Akshar (monolingual) and English text in Arial and Times New Roman,
and destination vendor is APS Corporate (bilingual font). After following above given steps
converted file will look like figure #7.8 destination file.

d) If the Show Preview option is selected in Options menu, then after all the source files are
converted, the application will automatically show the preview of the source and converted
file. (See Preview Figure given below)
Steps for converting database tables
1. In "Type/Font Conversion", select the type of conversion by selecting the source and
destination vendors along with the direction of the conversion.
2.

Click on "Open Database" button, to open the database.


Note: If selected database is password protected then the application will ask for password.

3.

A list of all the tables inside the database will be shown. Select one of the listed table(s) as a
source table.

4.

Click on convert button for conversion.

5.

The application will show list of field(s) of "text" data type present in the selected table. Select
the desired field(s) to convert.

Warning: Data inside the Source table will be modified after conversion so make sure that a
copy of the original data is taken before conversion.
Note :

In case of MS Excel and Lotus - The MS Excel & Lotus sheet(s) will be treated as
table(s). Sheet columns will be treated as table fields.

In case of .dbf files user have to open in Excel and save this in Excel (.xls) format.
Then repeat the steps for conversion as mentioned on page no. 47.
Steps for saving a file in Unicode format
To convert the source file in Unicode format, select "Save a copy in Unicode format" option
before conversion. Converted file will be stored in "apslocal\apscrjobs\unifiles" folder.
Note : This option is available only for files (.txt, .rtf), and not for Database.
Rupantar follows the following convention to save converted file(s):
1)
Destination Directory will always be "apslocal\apscrjobs\".

2)

Converted files will be stored in a folder corresponding to its destination vendor/font


name.

3)

For example: If source file format is "APS Corporate" and the destination format is
ISM Monolingual then the destination folder for the converted file will be

Sorting Utility:
By clicking this button you can invoke the sorting utility.
Using this utility you can sort the bilingual data (Devanagari and English).
This utility can sort data from any application. The data has to be in either table format or
simple tabbed text format.
To sort bilingual data

Select the bilingual data to be sorted and copy (Ctrl+C) it to the clipboard. Invoke APS
Sorting utility if not running already. Specify the column or tab position to sort data on as
shown in figure # 7.9.

sorted successfully on completion of sorting. Paste (Ctrl+V) the data from clipboard to
respective application. The pasted data will be in appropriate sorting order. After pasting the
matter the font has to be set again.
In MS Excel
Select the default font of spread sheet as one of the APS Hindi fonts (eg. APS-C-DV-Prakash)
so that there is no necessity of selecting font after pasting the data.
This utility can be used to sort data of any application.

Rajbhasha Shabdavali
Rajbhasha Shabdavali utility gives you Hindi or English words for the respective word you
enter. This utility provides search using wild cards (* & ?), words starting with similar
alphabets or with common alphabets, can be search using this provision.
To search a hindi word enter the corresponding English word in the text box as shown in
Figure #7.10, and press Enter. Select hindi option to search hindi word for its corresponding
English meaning (Confirm APS Corporate 2000++ desktop manager is loaded to type in hindi).

Chitragupt:
Word processing in Text and Rich Text Format with all basic facilities, this editor comes with
support for translation of text from one script to another . It has a build in dictionary for
translation of text in different script. The user dictionary can be used to build word bank
necessary for translation of script. The editor comes with all defaults necessary for bilingual
text processing. You can send emails in devanagari. You can save file in HTML format Similarly
you can save file in ISCII format also. Chitragupt provides built in spell-check utility for
devanagari text.
To create a new document
1 On the File menu, click New.

Click the file type you want to create, click OK, and then begin typing.

To save the new file, click the File menu, click Save As and then type a name in File name.

To open a document

Dictionary Update
1. Dictionary is available in two copies "Personal" and "Main"

"Main" dictionary is global dictionary. Any user can use it. In case of "Server/Client"
installation, this "Main" dictionary can be modified from "Server Node".

"Personal dictionary is installed in "APSLocal" folder. User is free to use and modify it.
To update (Add, Delete & Modify) words to "Personal" or "Main" dictionary, clicking on the
Update Dictionary menu the windows shown below will appear.

Shabdankan:
Shabdankan is a user friendly and powerful utility for those who find it difficult to type in
Indian script . In this utility you can type in English and the text gets converted in Indian script
depending on selected language. The translated text can be copied to clipboard for pasting
any application. The created files can be saved. The text can be directly sent as email also.
The utility translates the text using the typing sequences some of which are displayed on the
right hand side of the screen. The rest of the characters are having similar hindi representation
as that of English e.g. S and K However, a complete list can be obtained using the
help menu. The utility has editing options similar to that of other word editor.

File Menu
Open
To open an existing file (with default extension .eng) through this menu. On opening the file
text contents are displayed in hindi and English. Shabdankan utility can be used to prepare
small files and sending an email. Maximum file size you can creator open in Shabdankan is 20
KB. For typing text you must follow the chart displayed on the screen.
Opening files from other word editors
File from any text editor should be in text format (.txt). If you are using a shabdankan file, which
allows .eng and .hnd formats, Use .eng extension for opening the file.
Save
This option saves the current opened file. Both English as well as the Hindi files are saved
with .eng and .hnd extension, respectively. This holds good for save as option also.
Print
The text in Hindi can be printed using this option.
Exit
This Option enables you to close the application.
Edit Menu
Cut
This option allows to delete the selected text (in English ) and also the equivalent Hindi text. If
you want to copy the Devanagari equivalent text, use the Copy Language Text button.
Copy
This option enables you to copy the English text to the clipboard. This option is only enabled
when something is there in the clipboard. This enables you to copy data earlier being cut as
well as the Data from some other application via clipboard.
Paste
This enables you to copy data earlier being cut as well as the Data from some other application
via clipboard.
Right mouse Click
When you click the right mouse in the English text box, a menu is displayed having following
options,
Cut, Copy, Paste

These options are already described in the previous sections.


Suggestion (F2)
When Right mouse button is clicked a suggestion Window is displayed. Select the appropriate
word and double click it to insert the word at the cursor position.

key the next similar sounding character is replaced at the character position.

font to any of the APS CORPORATE 2000++ devanagari font family.
Using other Text editor files
File from any text editor should be in text format (.txt). If you are using a shabdankan file,
which allows .eng and .hnd formats. Use .eng extension for opening the file.

Keypad
By clicking this button you can invoke the APS Keypad utility.
APS Keypad appears like a normal keyboard as shown Fig # 7.!7.

characters, otherwise it will display characters corresponding to language selected
(Devanagari) in Script Indicator Button . To type Devanagari text in a particular package you

APSTools
APSTools are extended menus and options used for automating tasks, concerning Indian
languages in MS Word and MS Excel . These tools are provided, to overcome certain
drawbacks of MS Excel and MS Word application software, which do not recognize Indian
languages. When certain menus and options in MS Excel and MS Word are used with Indian
languages it gives erroneous results.
APSTools in MSExcel
1. When APS CORPORATE 2000++ Desktop Manager is activated, APSTools menu is invoked in
MS Excel menu bar as shown in figure # 6.1.

If you previously sorted a list on the same worksheet, Sort uses the same sorting options
unless you change them.

This a very unique utility to convert .RTF or .DOC prepared in other vendors font format to
APS Monolingual or Bilingual font format and vice versa. This utility can convert multiple
opened files at a time.

It retains the formatting.

Option to select fonts to be converted.

Steps to convert file
Click on Conversion in APSTools.
1)

Font Gathering: Click 'Gather' button to start font gathering. The application will prepare a list
of fonts from your source file/files depending on "Scan all documents" option is checked or
not. It will ask you to Select all those fonts which you would like to convert.

destination vendors along with the direction of the conversion.
Warning: Be sure that the source vendor/font format selected corresponds with source format
of the file selected for conversion.

is complete.

Send Email in Indian Script in MSWord
You can send Email in Indian script along with English in '.RTF' format
Type your message in MS Word. Select "Send Mail" from APSTools.
Please note, MAPI compliance is essential for sending message, if not follow instructions:

Select a language for which you want to attach the font from Attach font option. (By
default application selects all language fonts for attachment).

Click Continue.

If you dont want to attach any font file select None from Attach Font option and click
continue.

To cancel the Send mail operation click abort. After attaching the font, following
attachments will be visible at receivers end.

(where fntDev.exe is font installation file for Devanagari script and apssamp.htm is the file
prepared in Chitragupt. If you send a mail from a file with a specific name the htm file which
gets attached will be with same name and with htm extension. For e.g. test.rtf file will be sent as
test.htm attachment.)

send button.

Shabdankan in MS Word
Shabdankan a user friendly and powerful utility to type in Indian scripts. This utility allows to
type in Roman English and the window displays the converted text in Indian scripts. The
translated text can be inserted for use in any other application. The utility has editing options
similar to any other word editor. like Edit, Copy, Paste etc.,
Click Shabdankan option in APSTools Toolbar as shown in figure # 8.22

Number Conversion
Number conversion in MS Word
This utility provides Number Conversion for different units, to convert numeral to word as
shown in figure # 8.23

Select any numerals from document and Click on Number Conversion option in APSTools
Toolbar or Type numerals in Enter Number window
Click Select language (English / Hindi) for number to word conversion
Click desired, Select Unit option for conversion.
Click Insert button to replace the selected number, Click Copy button to insert or paste in any
other application. Select Close to cancel number conversion.
Help
Click Help options in APSTools menu for detail information in Hindi and English.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Cribs and Solution
c1. While installing the package, following message comes,
This software is already installed on your machine. Uninstall it from Control
panels Add/Remove program before reinstalling,
r.

By some reason package was not installed completely, but certain APS files are present in
the machine.

s . Remove 'APS 2PP.INI' file from Windows directory and then install the
package.
For more details refer "Setup and Installation" chapter.

c2. After installing the software APS Tools are not visible in MS-Word.
r.

You have MS-Word 2000 or MS-Word XP installed on the system. It has Macro Security
setting. If it is high, APS Tools will not be visible to the user.

s . Click Tools Menu->Macro Security, in "Security Level" tab, select


"Low" as priority and run APS taskbar.
c3. While Editing in dialog boxes garbage character appears.
r.

While typing in dialog boxes you might have selected Indian language mode from APS
Desktop Manager.

s.

While typing in any of the dialog boxes (e.g. File Open dialog box etc.) confirm that you
are in

mode.

For more details refer "Using APS Desktop Manager" from Operation chapter.

c4. Garbage or arbitrary characters appear on the screen while typing.
r.

You might have selected font, other than APS font and APS desktop manager is in
mode. or You have not selected proper Application setting in APS Desktop Manager. or
You have not selected proper keyboard layout.

s.

Confirm that you have selected proper APS font. Select proper Application setting from
APS Desktop Manager. Confirm the keyboard layout by clicking

button.

For more details refer "Using APS Desktop Manager" from "Operation" chapter, and "Standard
Operating steps" chapter.

c5. While typing some conjunct, characters with traditional style appears on
the screen.
r.

Few APS characters can be typed in more than one style (e.g. and ) Out of which one
style is default style and you expect other style of the character.

s.

Follow the sequence given in Appendix-A for the particular character you want to type.
For more details refer Appendix A table for different typing sequences.

c6. While typing words get automatically changed after pressing space
character.
r.

'Auto Correct' text settings might be ON in the application package.

s.

Disable the Auto Correct settings in the appropriate options in the application package.
For more details refer "Standard Settings For Devanagari Script" chapter.

c7. While importing / placing text from WRI / RTF file, few characters get
replaced.
r.

"Convert Quotes" / "Confirm Conversion" setting is enabled. Thus some characters


change automatically.

s.

Disable the Convert Quotes / Confirm Conversion option in the import filter.
For more details refer the "Standard Settings For Devanagari Script" chapter for
appropriate application package.
