Azerbaijan Medical University is a cradle of
science that unifies the thousands of students and
training professional physicians, specialists and
scientists who take care of people's health. The
education process is closely related to scientific
research and achievements obtained in the field of
health here.
Azerbaijan Medical University has been
established on the basis of medical faculty of Baku
University (the present Baku State University). Our
university that is considered to be the descendant of
the medical faculty at the present BSU embraces
about 100 years of history.
Azerbaijan Medical University functioning for
more than half of century is one of the biggest
scientific and medical hearths of Azerbaijan with its
rich material-technical basis, educational buildings,
students' hostels and clinics. Scientific research
laboratories of the University are equipped with
modern appliances and facilities so this allows
increasing the importance of scientific researches
and establishing sufficient number of personnel
potential in the field of medicine.
AMU has 6 educational buildings, administrative
building, and 6 students' hostels for 1.700 beds
together with its clinics. Modern 11-storeyed
educational building has a capacity of 2300 students
only. There are 10 theoretical departments, Internet
center, unique library supplied with more than 1
million books in its reserve and Physician
publishing house here.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS
The future of health is with us
For the first time among the higher schools of
the Southern Caucasus Republics in 1996 AMU has
been included into the register of the international
education union that was published in London. Our
University has been elected as full-fledged member
of the Higher Schools Union of the Black Sea
countries in 1998, the International High Schools
Association in 2000 and European Universities
Association in 2002.
The young physician staff graduating from
AMU works successfully in many countries of the
world, as well as, in Germany, United States of
America, Turkey, Canada, Islamic Republic of Iran,
Russian Federation, Switzerland and other countries
since 90s of the past century up to the present day
each year. Up to 100 Medical University graduates
pass questionnaires before the commission, confirm
their diploma from AMU and get work appointment
in many developed countries, including the above
mentioned countries.
Most of our scientists who defend thesis for a
Doctor's degree and obtain the scientific title of
professor are engaged with the useful scientificpedagogic activity for many years. They are playing
active role in socio-political life of the republic as the
head of different departments, scientific-research
institutions and clinics. There are authors of many
scientific works, monographies, manuals and
educational publications, patent and rationalization
proposals among them.

EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM
Azerbaijan Medical University is implementing the credit
educational system successfully practiced in advanced
countries of the world. Applying the credit system in Bologna
process allows for expansion of the mobility of subject and
teacher option by the students and their specialization for their
own interests.
Medical education is conducted with credit system at
Medico-prophylactic, and pharmacological faculties of
Azerbaijan Medical University since 2006, at stomatological
faculty since 2009-2010 academic year and at medical faculty
since 2011 academic year.
Adoption of the Law On Education in June, 2009 created
suitable condition for implementing credit system in
education, also, conducting post-diploma training by
residency. This law sets direction to conduct training of
scientific and pedagogical personnel according to new
methods.
New curricula, subject modules have been prepared with
regard to the credit system in AMU and conferences with the
students, parents, teachers and other colleagues have been
held. Educational consultants are working at the faculties for
coordination of education with credit system.
Generally, educational board of the Azerbaijan Medical
University is functioning according to the Law of the Republic
of Azerbaijan On Education, Law of the Republic of
Azerbaijan On Protection of People's Health, Decree of I.
Aliyev, honorable President of the Republic of Azerbaijan On
Educational System Improvement in the Republic of
Azerbaijan and also, relevant Order and Decrees of Ministries
of Health and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in its
daily activity.
New educational system also gives wide opportunities to
students to participate in the summer school in our country and
at the universities of the foreign countries. Many students have
opportunity to gain credit on specialty subject at Summer
schools of the universities in foreign countries due to
international relations of the university. At the same time,
students from universities of such foreign countries, as Russia,
USA, Ukraine, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland etc. also
participate at Summer schools of AMU and gain credit.

MEDICAL FACULTY
The biggest faculty of the Azerbaijan Medical University is
the Medical faculty. Highly qualified physicians in therapy are
trained here. The faculty is divided into two units: - I and II
Medical faculties.
Personnel of the clinic are trained in the necessary medical
specialties like internal diseases, surgery, oncology, obstetricsgynecology, nerve and ophthalmic diseases. In the I-III years of
the faculty the basic subjects, while in the senior courses the
clinical subjects are taught.
Graduates of the medical faculty who get education in
residency may master the specialties of anesthesiology and
intensive care, general surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgeon,
cardiovascular surgery, traumatology-orthopedic,
otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, oncology, obstetricgynecology, urology, therapy, cardiology, nephrology,
gastroenterology, hematology, dermatology and venereology,
rheumatology, endocrinology, infection diseases, neurology,
psychiatry, narcology, physiotherapy, immunology,
allergology, physiotherapist, specialists in X-ray diagnostics,
microbiology, pathology, forensic-medicine expert and genetic.
At present there are 14 departments in the 1st Medical
faculty and 15 departments in the 2nd Medical faculty. Besides
teaching scientific-research works are also carried out at the
departments relevant different problems of medicine and their
way of solution.
There are approximately up to 4000 students educating at
the medical faculty. There are also citizens of the foreign
countries such as Russia, Syria, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan,
Pakistan and Bangladesh among them.
Among the teaching staff of the faculty there are also,
academicians, professors, associate professors, assistants and
other teachers.
Students distinguished within the pre-diploma period have
opportunity to pass probation at the advanced universities of
some countries (such as Turkey, Germany, USA, Bulgaria,
Romania, Italy and others).

MEDICAL-PROPHYLACTIC
FACULTY
The faculty trains specialists in different fields of
microbiology, epidemiology, parasitology, hygiene and
Health Care management. Also, specialists are trained in
biological chemistry, biological physics, medical genetics,
microbiology, virology and laboratory services.
There are 7 departments and scientific-research center of
the faculty. The main scientific problem facing the colleagues
of medico-prophylactic faculty is learning the principles of
protecting sanitary-epidemiologic health of people. Workers
of the departments carry out investigations on the
improvement of ecological condition in the country. Scientific
investigations are conducted in the fields of evaluation of
environmental pollution level with production wastes and
agrochemical substances, and occupational health, also,
learning the health condition and working capability of the
growing younger generation.
Also, the principles of Public Health Care are explored.
The structure of inflammatory diseases and intra-hospital
infections in Baku city and epidemiological issues of
intestinal infections and invasions in Azerbaijan are explored.
Students are also involved in these explorations. At present up
to 400 students are educating at the medico-prophylactic
faculty.
Trade union of the workers, trade union of the students,
student youth and sport organization, student scientific
society and different sport and amateur sections are acting in
the faculty.

PHARMACOLOGY FACULTY
Students of pharmacology faculty learn the principles of
pharmacology science. Students are trained also in basic subjects
of the theoretical medicine together with specialized subjects.
Here the students improve their experiences, habits and
theoretical knowledge on purchasing new medicines and obtain
practical habits on checking the quality of medicines.
Pharmacological students acquire knowledge and experience
on modern methods of the chemical analysis and purchasing of
new medicines; also obtain information on influence of medicine
to organism and their quality. Students also carry out research on
learning medicines.
Pharmacology faculty trained staff not only for Azerbaijan,
but also for some republics of the former USSR (such as
Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Armenia) in different
years. Students from Turkey, Iran, Syria, Angola, Nigeria, Sudan,
Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries are studying in this faculty
together with the citizens of Azerbaijan. Today there are more
than 5000 pharmacologists with bachelor and master degree in
Azerbaijan and all of them are graduates from the pharmacology
faculty of AMU.
There are 8 departments in the pharmacology faculty. Up
today 11 of the staff members defended Doctor's degree and more
than 14 colleagues defended PhD in Pharmacology at the
specialty departments of the faculty. Many outstanding doctors in
Chemistry and Biological sciences in ANAS graduated from this
educational institution.
At present there are over 400 students at the faculty. The more
active graduates among them continue their education for
master's degree in pharmacological technology, pharmacological
chemistry, toxicological chemistry and pharmacognosy and
pharmacology management. The duration of education for
Master's degree is 2 years.

STOMATOLOGY (DENTISTRY)
FACULTY
Staff in stomatology specialty is trained at the stomatology
faculty. Students learn basic subjects, also such stomatological
(dentistry) subjects as prophylactics of stomatological diseases,
therapeutic stomatology, oral and facial-maxillary surgery,
orthopedic stomatology, children's stomatology and orthodontics.
Lessons in specialty subjects are conducted successfully at the
stomatological clinics of the university established in 2002.
Teaching consulting-rooms, X-ray diagnostic unit and Dental
technical laboratory are at the disposal of the students and
teaching staff in this clinic. Students have practice in the
consulting rooms which are equipped with up to date
stomatological devices and obtain practical skills and take part in
performing different operations.
More than 9200 physician-dentists have been trained in our
country during the period of the activity of faculty, and they are
working successfully in different countries of the world Turkey,
Iran, France, Germany, Finland, Israel, Syria, Jordan, Pakistan,
Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Georgia and so on.
Besides Azeri students, over 500 students from Turkey, Iran,
Pakistan, Afghanistan, Israel, Jordan, Palestine, Finland and other
foreign countries are studying at this faculty. At present, 40% are
international students.
The main direction of scientific works at the faculty is towards
the improvement of diagnostics, treatment and prophylactic
methods, stomatological diseases and their complications.
Since 2009, student exchange is being conducted by contest
due to contract signed with Stomatology faculty of Ankara
University of Turkey and they continue their education at that
university. At present, a group of graduates of the faculty continue
their education for Doctor's degree at the Gazi University.

MILITARY MEDICAL FACULTY

According to Decree of the President of the Republic of
Azerbaijan, Military Medical Faculty was established in
Azerbaijan Medical University in 2000.
The aim of Military Medical Faculty is a training of
professional military medical personnel meeting medical needs
of the Armed Forces personal staff. Post-diploma training is
directed to organization of improvement of professional skill on
modern level and training of experienced and skillful doctorspecialists and leading medical staff and scientific personnel.
Educational process includes lessons planning and
organizational well as, current and final control of the course.
Military Medical Faculty fulfills the following duties:
- Pre-diploma training of military medical personnel
according to the need of the Armed Forces;
- Improvement of residency on training of post-diploma
specialty and medical staff;
- conducting of scientific-practical researches in military
medical fields;
- Training of AMU students in subjects on military surgery,
military therapy, military hygiene and epidemiology.
Subjects are taught to the students of Military Medical
Faculty of the departments of military surgery, military therapy,
organization and tactics of medical services and department of
medical prophylactics according to the sequence of academic
programs.
Pathogenesis, clinics, characteristics, diagnostics and
treatment of battle trauma, surgical diseases met among military
servants in the peace time and other actual topics are studied by
the students at the department of military surgery.
Pathogenesis, clinical course, characteristics, diagnostics
and treatment methods of internal organ diseases occurred
during battle trauma, as well as characteristics of somatic
diseases are met during different activities of forces are studied
by the students and listeners at the department of military
therapy.
The department of medical prophylactics trains the students
on the subjects of military epidemiology, military hygiene,
military toxicology and medical protection.

THE DEPARTMENT OF
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
The activity of Azerbaijan Medical University in the field
of international relations, mainly, consists of learning of the
experience of neighboring and distant foreign country
universities in training of highly specialized medical staff
meeting modern requirements, integration to all-European
educational area and providing exchange of students and
teachers and modern knowledge and technologies.
Azerbaijan Medical University is a member of Caucasus
Universities Union, the Turkish World Universities Union and
Network of Black Sea Universities.
Our university cooperates with several foreign educational,
scientific and medical institutions, international organizations,
societies and associations (USAID, American-Austrian
Foundation (AAF), German Academic Exchange service
(DAAD), TIKA (Turkic Cooperation and Coordination
Agency), The World Bank, British Council, etc.). The students
of our university are active members of International
Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA).
Recently our university has established intensive
cooperation relations with foreign higher schools and
scientific-research institutions in the framework of bilateral
agreements and international programs. Our university is also
the member of 7 projects of TEMPUS, ERASMUS MUNDUS
programs of the European Commission and Mevlana exchange
program.
Now, our university closely cooperates with 135
universities of 33 countries, scientific-research institutions and
clinics. Every year dozens of our teachers visit partner
universities in order to exchange the experience, hundreds of
our students and residents have rotation and summer practice
in foreign country universities and clinics. Moreover, wellknown scientists all over the world, highly specialized
specialists are invited to our university constantly, their
lectures and consultations with local specialists, also online
conferences are organized.

DEAN OFFICE OF
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Admission of foreign students to Azerbaijan Medical
University has started since 1968; adequately dean office was
established in 1970. Dean office controls organization of
academic work and education of international students and
residents in collaboration with dean office of the faculties. Dean
office also assists in passport registration process of foreign
students at State Migration Service. Moreover, it contributes to
their acquaintance with Azerbaijan, its history, culture, position in
international area and modern social-economic conditions.
Every year hundreds of students from different countries of
the world apply to AMU to study. Some of them additionally can
pass through the training courses for 1 year and then continue
their education in different faculties of the university. The
objectives of training courses are improving applicants'
knowledge in chemistry, biology, physics and foreign languages
(Azerbaijan, Russian and English) and assisting to study in proper
faculties by passing exams in those subjects at the end of
academic year. Training courses also help to their specialty
choice.
The most experienced teachers of the university deliver
practical and theoretical classes in different subjects on individual
program.
Activity of dean office of International students:
- To accept applications of students from different foreign
countries to study;
- To organize admission of students, who passed through the
training course, to university?
- To prepare visas of students during their educational period;
- To control the attendance of students;
- To assist the students in preparation for to summer and winter
exam session;
- To organize observation and control of lessons;
- To organize practical trainings of students;
- To organize process of state exams;
- To organize foreign citizens' post-graduate education and to
document this procedure;
- To inform students about proper laws of the Republic of
Azerbaijan;
- To provide their normal residential condition.
At present, approximately 1000 foreign citizens from 21
foreign countries are studying at AMU.

DENTAL CLINIC
Dental Clinic of AMU was established in 2002. The aim
of establishing the Clinic was to render qualitative assistance
to the patients, also to achieve progress in bringing
professional doctor-dentists.
Dental Clinic is the first clinic attached to Medical
University. Previously, clinical departments of the Medical
university located in different hospitals and polyclinics of the
Ministry of Health. It caused certain problems such as lack of
educational rooms. Opening of university clinics has been
one of the successful steps in the way of solving such
problems.
Dental Clinic of AMU is the institution with material and
technical base corresponding to modern requirements.
Opening of this clinic is the step served to preparation of
highly specialized medical personnel protecting people's
health.
Alongside with therapeutic, surgical, prosthodontics,
child dentistry and stomatology departments for students of
military medicine faculty, medical and medico-prophylactic
faculties, therapy, surgery, orthopedics, orthodontics,
periodontics, implantology, physiotherapy, roentgen units
and laboratories are also functioning at the dental clinic.
The main goal of the dental clinic activity is to provide
people with high level specialized dentistry service. As the
basic unit meeting modern requirements, it also ensures
educational and scientific-research work in training highly
specialized personnel of doctor-dentists.
Recently, the 4-storeyed teaching-clinic building has
been repaired capitally, and supplied with equipments and
new dental apparatus produced in Japan, Germany, Turkey,
Slovakia, Brasilia, Korea and other countries.
New teaching rooms were opened in clinic and the old
ones were repaired capitally according to the requirements of
modern dental clinic. X-ray diagnostic and computer
education cabinet was given to the use of students.
Sterilization system has been replaced by autoclaving
system. Medicines and instruments used in dentistry were

substituted by modern standard products of the advanced

companies.
At present, all profile departments of the Stomatological
(dentistry) faculty of AMU are located in this clinic. There is a
dental polyclinic attached to Dental clinic too. It enables the
faculty students to have practice here.
A Training Center has been recently introduced at the Dental
Clinic of AMU. There are phantom study rooms with 13 dental
chairs. Resident-dentists do practical work and receive patients
there.
Special subjects are taught at a high level in clinic. Here
teaching cabinets, roentgen diagnostics department and dental
technical laboratories are continually available for students and
teaching staff. Students attend training session in cabinets
provided with modern dental apparatus equipment. They
acquire practical skills and participate in different operations.
They use the filling materials with the aid of the last model
instruments and nanotechnology used in dentistry. Clinic has
mobile, digital roentgen apparatus provided with microscopy.
Moreover, implantology, periodontics, orthodontics,
roentgen-diagnostics, physiotherapy, X-ray diagnostics
educational centre and dental laboratories are functioning at
Dental Clinic.
72 scientific-research works on different fields of dental
science have been carried out at the Dental Clinic for the last 5
years. Approximately teaching staff of 180 members work at
Dental Clinic: 8 of them are professors and doctors of sciences
in medicine, 26 persons are associate professors and 85 persons
are assistants and doctors of philosophy in medicine.

ONCOLOGY CLINIC
Oncology clinic of AMU was established in 2007. Oncology
clinic consists of 2 stationary units, day hospital, polyclinic and
diagnostics department, operation room and department of
anesthesiology.
Ideal condition is created for study of oncology subject, as
well as diagnostics, prophylactics, treatment of oncologic
diseases and rehabilitation of patients in clinic located in 9storeyed building. Histological laboratory, computer
tomography room, ultrasound examination room, other
treatment-diagnostic departments, scientific-research and
treatment units, gynecology department, surgery department and
other departments of the clinic provided with the modern
apparatus and equipments, are given to use of students and
patients applying to this clinic.
One of the superior sides of clinic is that, here modern type
child oncology department is established. There is expresslaboratory acting during 24 hours in the clinic. There is
manipulation room for bone marrow, lumbar punctures and
biopsies in each department of the clinic.
The following operations are realized in oncology clinic for
bone tumor in musculoskeletal system, bone margin resection,
bone echochleation and plastics with orthopedic (or combined)
cement, endoprosthetisation of knee, humeral and sacroiliac
joints, rotation plastics, belly-iliac separation, resection between
breast and shoulder-blade, operations of amputation and
disarticulation of extremities.
Here mastectomies are conducted in the case of leather
masses and tumors of breast, extirpation of uterus by Wertheim's
method, vulvectomy and Duken operations for soft tissue tumors
and radical surgical operations are performed for oncologic
diseases of digestive system.
Liver resection for tumors of liver, all radical surgical
operations for tumors of gall-bladder, choledoch and duodenal
peritoneal tumors, also radical operations in the case of lung
cancer: pneumonectomy, lobectomy of lung and other operations
are conducted in the clinic.
Radical surgical operations are conducted for oncologic
diseases of digestive system: Lewis operation in the case of gullet

cancer and Osawa-Gerlock operation, gastrectomy, on stomach

cancer, proximal and distal subtotal resections of stomach,
pancreatoduodenal resection in the case of pancreas cancer and
all radical surgical operations for peritoneum tumors are
conducted.
Open and endoscopic (close) operations belonging to modern
oncourology are conducted in oncology clinic. Open operations:
radical nephrectomy in the case of kidney tumor, radical
cystectomy in the case of urinary bladder tumors, close (TUR)
operations with reconstruction of urethra, open and close (TUR)
operations in the case of prostate tumors, radical
orchifuniculectomy for testicle tumors, part and full penectomy
operations in the case of tumors of sex organs.
Operations conducted in the case of laryngeal tumors in the
Oncology Clinic of AMU: laryngectomy, laryngeal resection,
chordectomy and operations in the direction of applying sound
prosthesis. Here, surgical operations such as lipoma tumors of
neck out of body, fibroma surgeries, surgery (resection and
parotidectomy) in the case of tumors of salivary glands (around
ear, chin, sublingual and little salivary glands), blepharoplasty,
disarticulation and other surgeries for tumors of orbits, lower and
upper eyelid are also performed.
Open and endoscopic, laryngeal tumors belonging to modern
oncourology and other surgical operations are conducted in the
case of tumors of oral cavity in the clinic. Modern chemical
medicine therapy of patients is also realized by oncology clinic
too.
Operational unit and department of anesthesiology of the
clinic consist of operation room and section with 8 beds for
control to patients after operation.
Oncology clinic also is implementing modern chemical
medicine therapy of patients. More than 30 thousand ambulatory
patients have been registered in the clinic and about 3 thousand
operations have been conducted.

TEACHING THERAPEUTIC CLINIC

Teaching Therapeutic Clinic of Azerbaijan Medical
University started its activity at the end of 2010. Clinic has 6
therapy departments with 400 beds, 3 pediatrics departments, 1
neurology department and 1 reanimation and intensive care
therapy department.
Diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of therapeutic,
pediatric and neurological diseases are conducted according to the
international standards in departments of angiography,
endoscopy, computer tomography, digital X-ray, mammography,
densitometry, treadmill-Doppler echocardiography,
electrocardiography, ultrasonography, electroencephalography
and physiotherapy units, clinical diagnostic laboratories, different
therapy centers in the clinic. Therefore, clinic was provided with
modern equipments produced by leading companies of America,
Japan, Germany, Turkey and Southern Korea. Medical service is
rendered to patients from all cities and regions of the republic in
clinic.
20 doctors in medical sciences, 126 doctors of philosophy in
medicine, also 19 professors, 49 associate professors, 9 honored
scientists, 9 honored doctors, totally 220 highly specialized
doctors are engaged in examination and treatment of patients in
the clinic.
The last achievements of medicine and modern medical
technologies are implemented in Teaching Therapeutic Clinic. Its
motto is High professionalism, exact examination and correct
treatment and advanced, progressive treatment methods are
applied here.
One of the important units of the clinic is reanimation and
intensive therapy department. Separate reanimation and intensive
therapy rooms act in the department for children and adults.
Besides patients receive stationary treatment in the clinic,
favorable condition is created for 300-350 patients per day (75008000 patients per month) for rendering the ambulatory,
consultative-diagnostic and healing assistance.
Treatment measures according to the examination and
treatment guidance of heart disease determined by advanced
cardiology societies of the world, also by Azerbaijan Cardiology
Society are conducted in angiography department of the Clinic
Diagnostic Laboratory.

Citizens may be examined for all internal diseases, child

diseases, neurology, endocrinology, nephrology, cardiology,
allergology, rheumatology, etc. in comfortable examination
rooms of consultative-diagnostic polyclinic department of the
clinic.
Bacteriological laboratory of Teaching Clinic functions
according to the modern world standards with its provision and
specialists and is engaged in preparation of specialists for other
clinics of the country in this work.
Besides therapy, teaching process is also conducted at the
clinic and 16 clinical departments are settled. There are 8 lecture
halls provided with multimedia system capable of accepting
about 640 students at the same time and about 70 computerized
classrooms with the capacity of about 1000 students per day in
this medical centre. So, 3000-3500 students are taught in the
clinic during a day. Moreover, training of highly specialized
personnel by residency and doctorate is conducted in the clinic.
Clinic having modern material and technical base is
computerized completely. Computer network combined 204
computers, HIS, LIS and PAKS systems in itself has an
opportunity to conduct all medical documentation process, to
archive, to work statistically, to transfer the results of imaging and
laboratory examinations to treatment doctors, as well as to the
specialist in any country of the world.
It is possible to set up a video link with eminent medical
specialists of the world and advanced clinics of foreign countries
and to hold debates. All educational rooms, study cabinets and
wards are joined to speed internet line. In order to increase
obviousness of educational process, robot simulators brought
from America possessing the ability to model 18 serious diseases
and their multiple complications were installed at the Medical
training centre.

TEACHING SURGERY CLINIC

Teaching Surgery Clinic of Azerbaijan Medical University started
its activity in 2013. 18 departments and 20 units are functioning
here, in surgical and diagnostic direction with 500 beds. 40
professors, 80 associate professors and 120 doctors of philosophy
on medicine are engaged in education of 2 thousand 800 students,
more than 400 residents and more than 20 doctorates on subjects
in surgical specialty during a year.
The building of clinic with total area of 45 thousand square
meters was established by original architectural style. Besides
education in Clinic of thirteen-storied building, high diagnostic
and surgical treatment assistance is rendered to the people.
General surgery, child surgery, thorax surgery, gynecology,
transplantology, ophthalmology, traumatology, neurosurgery and
other units act in the clinic. Medical facility is provided with the
most modern equipments.
University clinic has high level central laboratory in
biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, molecular genetics and
etc.
There are fully automated and the most modern biochemical,
microbiological, immunological, genetic and other analyzers used
in reference laboratories of the world universities in the
laboratory. It gives an opportunity to conduct any laboratory
examination in a short period maximally and exactly.
Biochemical and immunological analysis are conducted in
central laboratory of Educational Surgery Clinic according to the
CLSI standards accepted by World Health Organization in our
country for the first time. Patients may enter to clinic's site with
their personal codes from any country of the world and get results
of laboratory analysis.
Also, Tesla magnetic resonance tomography, 128 section
computer tomography, two high-frequency digital roentgen plant,
universal type angiograph, 4 D regime ultrasound examination
apparatus have been installed in the clinic.
Wards of the clinic are provided with all necessary
equipments, also with soft and durable inventory are of modern
level. 5 reanimation halls with 20 beds and 18 operation rooms are
settled on the third floor.

Multifunctional electric beds produced in Europe, centralized

gas systems, monitors, artificial breathing apparatuses are
installed in reanimation halls. Reanimation intensive therapy
services are rendered by experienced resuscitators not depending
on difficulty.
Operation processes may be transferred to classrooms,
teaching and conference halls, also to highly specialized
specialists abroad, by means of camera and special
multifunctional lightening system installed here and are loaded to
the archive of medical institution.
There are lecture halls and skill laboratories in different areas
in this medical centre for increasing education and knowledge
level of students, residents and doctorates. Anatomic, functional
and mould simulators are installed in skill laboratories having no
analogue in CIS area to increase preparation of young specialist
to the level of the world standards.
The privileges of some equipment in this clinic are that,
besides information, images obtained from magnetic resonance,
roentgen and computer tomography of patient may be loaded to
computer too.
Examination and computer halls are also at provided with
modern equipments in the clinic. There is conference hall
consisting of 250 seats, where special acoustics and modern
multimedia systems are installed for holding the social events.
Totally, 9 lecture halls each for 100 persons and more than 50
training room for practical exercises are established in the clinic.
Equipment installed in the departments of the clinic is produced
by advanced companies of the world. It is possible to get exact
results of the examination in a short period by help of these
apparatus.

STUDENT SCIENTIFIC
SOCIETY (SSS)
Student Scientific Society was organized at the
Azerbaijan Medical University in 1947. SSS holds allUniversity final conference in May every year. The best
reports made at sections and plenary session of the society,
are presented to the competition of The best student
scientific work of year in December of the same year. Jury
awards the best scientific work made at the Republican
conference of the students. A group of students attending
the international competitions every year get the 1st degree
diploma and certificates. Student Scientific Society has
held 150 conferences at faculties and more than 1500
workshops at departments during the last 10 years.

ORGANIZATION OF
LEISURE HOUR
The favorable condition is created for the efficient
organization of leisure hours for students at AMU
(Azerbaijan Medical University). Sports and health
complex, indoor swimming pool, Nabran health and
recreation camp, Scientific-Research Center, Internet
Center functioning at the University campus for the
students.
Chinar girls dance ensemble, a humoristic
competition group Funny and Witty and other cultural
and students here organize mass societies. Graduation
day ceremony is annually held at the end of each academic
year. Graduates take the oath of doctor and give the white
gown, cap and phonendoscope the symbols of healing to
the first course students.

OUR HOSTELS
Foundation of student hostels of the AMU was
established in 30-ties of XX century, this initiative has been
continued in following years. Student hostels No 1 and 2 of the
AMU was used as evacuation hospital during the Second
World War in 1941-1945s.
6 hostels buildings constructed for improving the lifestyle
of students are in use at the Azerbaijan Medical University:
Two for boys, two for girls students and 2 hostels for foreign
students studying at the AMU.
Capital repair works have been conducted in all hostel
buildings, used by local and foreign students. These buildings
are provided with modern equipments and all facilities are
created for the convenience of students.
Hostels provided with the reading-rooms, library, also
televisions, enables the students to watch the world satellite
canals to ensure the development of students' academic level
and social life aspects.
Lounges, guest rooms on each floor of the modern hostel
building give opportunity for meeting with relatives of
students. Modern style bedroom furniture, cupboards and
computer rooms for each student have been installed in rooms.
Heating, gas, light, telephone and internet (Wi-Fi) lines are
functioning in hostels. Canteen, sports complex and internet
salon are available in hostel, as well.
Hostel managers give support and necessary
recommendations to students to solve problems and ensure
their acclimatization to hostel life within their capabilities.
Various programs are held for the hostel students. A lot of
trips, sport and cultural programs are organized to have more
interesting and useful leisure time together with students.
In particular, the trips to various historical places for
students from foreign countries are organized to recognize
closely Azerbaijani's culture and custom and traditions.

AMU Sports Club

There are also world champions among
the members.
At present, Sports Club large complex consisting of
specialized halls acts at the Azerbaijan Medical University. This
center was organized attached to the department for physical training,
medical supervision and physical therapy of university in 1952.
Sports Club of the Azerbaijan Medical University is engaged
with the organization of mass-sport activities among associates,
teaching staff and students. Skill improvement sections in various
kinds of sport were created firstly at the institute in the first years of
club. Furthermore, students exactly started to take part in various
international competitions
A unique for the structure and scale sports complex was given in
use in 1984 at the Azerbaijan Medical University. This also gave a
great impulse to the development of mass-sport activities in our
higher school. At present, 10 specialized sport halls, a track and an
athletics arena and 25-meter swimming pool are available in the same
complex.
The national teams in various kinds of sport have taken part in in
official matches in Kaunas, Minsk, Moscow, Ashgabat, Lvov and
other cities until 1991 and won in majority of cases. AMU athletes,
which became a champion in the competitions in Baku city and
Azerbaijan, started to distinguish in European and world
championships since 1995. For instance, Jeyhun Shadlinski won the
bronze medal in the world championships on Kickboxing in 1996.
Janpolad Budagov became European champion on wushu in the same
year and became the World champion in competition held in Hong
Kong (the People's Republic of China) in 1999. In general, AMU
athletes got prizes repeatedly in competitions held in foreign
countries on handball, volley-ball, swimming, chess and other kinds
of sport.
The national teams of the AMU won 10 times in Sports festival
held among the higher schools in 1991-2005s and were awarded with
the Super Cup for wining 7 times at sport competition between
Universities.115 sports master and athletes more than 1000
sportsmen with various degrees have been prepared by the
department in physical training up today. At present, Sports festival is
held among the faculties of the university in 7-8 kinds of sport
nowadays.
There are many athletes between graduates of club participating
in Azerbaijani national team in various kinds of sport at present.
Sports and health camp in Nabran settlement located at the seaside in
Khudat was created for the purpose of organization an active
recreation of teaching staff and student-athletes in summer.

CHINAR DANCE ENSEMBLE

Chinar dance ensemble is folk dance ensemble,
consisting of girls organized at the Azerbaijan State Medical
Institute named after Nariman Narimanov, (the present
Azerbaijan Medical University) in 1959. The first trainer of the
ensemble was Amina Dilbazi, soloist of Azerbaijan State
Philharmonic Society.
Chinar's first step in stage life has been Chinar dance.
Afterwards, Chinar became famous for performance of
dances Banovsha, Jeyran.
It participated in Azerbaijan literature and art, decades held
in Moscow city after 3 months from its establishment.
Ensemble was awarded with Honorary Decree. The name Folk
ensemble was given to the Chinar after the success in
Moscow.
Four of activists of the ensemble were awarded with
Honorary Decree of Presidium of Azerbaijan Supreme Soviet
and Amina Dilbazi, art director of collective was awarded with
the title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan.
Early in 1970s Chinar became recognized in country and
abroad. Chinar dance ensemble performed successfully in
several contests and festivals and showed their skills.
After the death of Amina Dilbazi, the head of Chinar folk
dance ensemble Nargiz Abdullayeva, former soloist and the
graduate of the Azerbaijan Medical University for a long time
became its head.
Ensemble has been performing with concert programs in
different countries including Turkey, France, Algeria, Senegal,
Iran, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany, Yugoslavia, Russia,
Ukraine, Georgia and Israel up today and won the audience's
sympathy by performing of Yalli, Dolayi, Jeyrani,
Vaghzali-mirzeyi, Gavali and other Azerbaijani folk
dances.
At present, the art director of Chinar folk dance ensemble
is Tahir Eynullayev. He has been the student of Amina Dilbazi
and now successfully leads Chinar folk dance ensemble.

FUNDAMENTAL LIBRARY OF THE

AZERBAIJAN MEDICAL
UNIVERSITY
Fundamental library of the Azerbaijan Medical University located at
educational building No 5 of the university. Here textbook fund, foreign
literature fund, journal fund, newspaper fund, abstracts, dissertation thesis
works fund, main fund and service section for associates teaching staff and
students are available. There are 3 reading-halls for 260 people in the
fundamental library. 32 places for the individual notebooks were installed in
one of the halls. Readers are served with 9 computers. Book fund has
reached to 805 thousand copies, more than 10 thousand readers use our
library every year and readers are given books more than 600 thousand.
Fundamental library is connected to the internet from 2000.
medlib.aznet.org of library was opened and certain information about the
library, thesis works for a Doctor's degree of outstanding scientists of our
university were placed in this website.
Many changes took place in the field of electronic information of the
Fundamental library. Library is connected to the new internet line
continuously, Azerbaijan took an active part in the creation of the LIC
(Library Information Consortium) and it enabled the use of readers from
bases of EIFLNET International Consortium (Electronic Information for
Libraries). The new virtual reading-room is in use thanks to the university
administration from 2011. Also, the new electronic resources fund of the
library, consisting of CD and DVDs were created. At present, more than
3000 full text books from www.meliter.ru electronic library are presented to
the readers in the computer base of the library. The website of
http://search.ebscohost.com was given right of Internet users within AzLiC
since 2012. Readers may also use the websites of
http://webofknowledge.com, www.journals.cambrige.org, www.eifl.net,
www.boone.org, www.iop.org/EJ in all computers connected to the internet
within the university.
The website of http://link.springer.com was also presented to library
users of the AMU from 2013. Springer is the international publishing base,
which covered literature (book, journal and other materials) in many fields
of medicine. Moreover, www.clinicalkey.com base of Elsevier
publishing house presents openly the electronic resources to e-library users
of the AMU. www.clinicalkey.com base is a new platform in the field of
medical information research of Elsevier publishing house. Elsevier
publishing house is fulfilling the task to bring to readers in full text form of
1100 books on medicine, 541 journals and other information. Readers may
also enter a library section of http://amu.edu.az website in the internet and
use widely these information bases.
Our library connects with organizations, societies and persons interested
via e-mail post (amu_lib@mail.ru) of itself and virtual exchange work
carried out with many foreign country libraries (Russian State Library,
Russian State Medical Library, Ukrainian State Library, Ukrainian State
Scientific-Medical Library, Belarus National Library, Republican
Scientific Medical Library of Belarus).
