There were a few difficulties that I had encounter in the Front


Office practical classes . One of the difficulties that I had was
remembering the standard operation procedures for checking
in the guest process . It wasnt very difficult but at times there
are a few steps that I might forgot along the process which
frustrates me at times . Furthermore , the opera system could
be difficult for me to handle at times . For instances , I could
not remember which page was it for the exchange rate ,
therefore I could use up my time just to look for it . One way
that I felt that it could help me improve my weaknesses is to
practice more in a role play way to improve my standard
operation procedures . With the help of a friend , I could
practice more like a real situation and I can remember the
procedures better . As for the opera systems , I can also
improve by practicing more on how to use it . Click on every
page to learn more about it to ensure I am better in the
future .
2. One of the Taylors Graduate Capabilities [TGC] that helped
me complete my checking in the guest assessment is the first
TGC 2 , lifelong learning , which means I am able to locate and
extract information effectively and able to relate learned
knowledge to everyday life . I am able to learn and apply both
Checking in , checking out procedures effective and efficient
in the future as I will enroll myself into the Front Office
department . The second TGC that helped me was TGC 4 ,
communication skills which means I am able to communicate
appropriately in various settings and modes . The assessment
requires me to speak directly and one on one with my
lecturer . Therefore I have to talk clearly and loudly to ensure
he hears me . I am able to improve my communications skills
a lot after completing my assessment . The third TGC that
helped me was TGC 3 , thinking and problem solving skills . I
am able to learn and think critically and creatively , and able
to define and analyse problems to arrive at effective
solutions . During the assessment , the lecturer gave me
several situation for me to solved . For instance , he needs a
wake up call in the morning , therefore I need to think
effectively to ensure he gets the wake up call on time and I
am needed to key in the information correctly in the PMS
system .
3. The area that I understood well was the checking in lesson . I
understood the importance of the process therefore I have to
pay more attention to it . The checking in process is an
important part of the guest cycle process . By handling the
standard operations procedures perfectly , the guest would be
happy and the standard of the hotel will be well maintain .
Therefore I understood the importance of this topic very well .
