HyperTerminal
To use HyperTerminal for executing the CLI commands through COM Port (RS232 serial)
and through the 10/100BaseT Management Port (LAN Port)
Important Instructions:
!
The user can choose to use the HyperTerminal utility to access the equipment either
through the local serial/RS232 COM Port.
Or, the user may use the HyperTerminal utility access the equipment through the
10/100Base Ethernet management port to remotely access the equipment over a TCP/IP
network.
The CLI Commands shall remain same for both options.
Windows based GUI is yet another option, which the user may select to configure the
equipment either through the local serial (RS232 COM) port, or the remote (10BaseT
ethernet) port over a TCP/IP network. The use of this option is explained elsewhere in the
User Manual.
To access the equipment using HyperTerminal, using the RS232 COM Port, please make
sure that the LAN Switch (SW1) is in the "OFF" position (switch towards left is "OFF" and
right is "ON").
Note: HyperTerminal and GUI may not be used simultaneously. If you are accessing the
equipment through the GUI, please exit the GUI before commencing to use the
HyperTerminal utility to access the equipment through the serial/RS232 COM
Port, or the 10/100Base Ethernet management port for executing the CLI commands.

Step 1
Configuring The Main Control Card (CC1) For Master Terminal (System)
Type following settings statements from the SYSTEM PROMPT:
1.
set_def = master[01] **
Note: After default settings are done, the following statement are mandatory for remote
access and should not be changed:
clk_internal
(change this to clk-looptimed ONLY if MASTER is required to derive clock from LINK-A
which is connected to a higher order mux).
crc4_en
2.
The following statement may be used to disable alarms in case Link-A is unused:
disable-alarms-a
3.
Configure all nX64Kbps data interface slots 1 to 4 as required with the following
Statement:
config_ifN = {if option} 'fe1', 'v35', 'v36', 'x21', 'eia530', 'unqp
** The following SYSTEM PROMPT should be observed after the default settings statement.
VCL-MX-CCB[01]>
Step 3
System Mapping
PART A (Mapping n*64 INTERFACE IFN to LINK-A or LINK-B)
1.0
xx, yy are 2-digit numbers from 01, 02, upto 31 (except 16). xx is the starting time slot and yy
is the ending time-slot (both inclusive), thus mapping a range of LINK-A time slot to the
Interface IFN.
Note 1: * Both xx & yy may be in range 01 thru 31.
*N = may be selected by the user to either 1 thru 4 depending on the IF Card which is to be
mapped.
In case a bandwidth of a 64Kbps is required, xx and yy should have the same slot numbers.
Eg. Map_ifN_a01-01
Note 2: In case slot 16 falls in between selected range.
Eg. map_ifN_a01-21
Then slot 01, 02, ..... 15, 17, .... 21 shall be mapped and slot 16 shall be ignored. Therefore
effective bandwidth shall be 20 X 64Kbps.
Orion Telecom Networks Inc. - 2006-09
106
2.0
2.1
Select the interface card IFN with the following statement from the system PROMPT:
VCL-MX-CCB[01]> #sel = ifN
(N = 1 thru 4)
2.2
Observe the new system PROMPT which indicates that subsequent statements shall
be Routed to INTERFACE CARD (IFN).
VCL-MX-CCB[01]-IFN>
2.3
3.0
Revert back to MAIN CONTROL CARD (CC1) with the following statement:
#sel = cc
4.0
Observe the system prompt which indicates that subsequent statements shall be
routed to main Control Card (Cc1):
VCL-MX-CCB[01]>

2.
3.
4.

Step 2
Configuring The Control Card (CC1) For Slave Terminal (System)
Type following settings statement from SYSTEM PROMPT:
1.
set_def = slave[XX] ** {where XX is a two digit number 02, 03, 04,........., 62, 63}
Note: After default settings are done, the following statements are mandatory for
remote access and should not be changed:
clk_looptimed
crc4_en
2.
** The following SYSTEM PROMPT should be observed after the default settings statement.
: VCL-MX-CC[XX]>
Step 3
System Mapping
PART A (Mapping n*64 INTERFACE IFN to LINK-A or LINK-B)
1.0
xx, yy are 2 -digit numbers from 01, 02, upto 31 (except 16) xx is the starting timeslot & yy is
the ending timeslot (both inclusive), thus mapping a range of LINK-A timeslots to the Interface
IFN.
Note 1: * Both xx & yy may be in range 01 thru 31.
*N = may be selected by the user to either 1 thru 4 depending on the IF Card which is to be
mapped.
In case a bandwidth of a 64Kbps is required, xx and yy should have same slot numbers.
e.g. map_ifN_a01-01
Note 2: In case slot 16 falls in between selected range.
e.g. map_ifN_a01-21
Then slot 01, 02, ..... 15, 17, .... 21shall be mapped and slot 16 shall be ignored. Therefore
effective bandwidth shall be 20 X 64Kbps.
2.0
2.1
Select the interface card IFN with the following statement from system PROMPT
VCL-MX-CC[XX]> #sel = ifN
(N = 1 thru 4)
114
2.2
Observe new system prompt which indicates that subsequent statements shall be
Routed to INTERFACE CARD (IFN).
VCL-MX-CC[XX]-IFN>
2.3
3.0
Revert back to MAIN CONTROL CARD (CC1) with the following statement
#sel = cc
4.0
Observe system prompt which indicates that subsequent statements shall be routed
to main Control Card (Cc1)
VCL-MX-CC[XX]>
PART B (Mapping Mux 64Kbps Channels to Link-A or Link-B)
1.
MUX slots for FXO, FXS, E&M, G.703, iDSL, and RS232 card slots can be directly
mapped using statements given below:
1.

3.

All command statements and responses shall have up to a maximum of 30 characters
including any spaces
In case of queries when lengthy information is transmitted by the system, (such as help?,
alarms?), the system will generate multiple lines of maximum 45 characters each. The
maximum no of lines will be 10. (** Please note these were 16 earlier)
All command statements and response strings shall be terminated by a 0x0D and 0x0A

Only after the system status is known, further setting statements are possible.
These prompts will be generated by the system depending on the mode of the system. Now the
user may enter a command statement. The command will be sent to the appropriate section (as
per prompt).
! Two types of command statements will be implemented :

Where y=0 or 1
The command to set the ABCD bits of seizure condition is as following:
prompt> custom_seizure=yyyy
Where y=0 or 1
Note: It is important that the same ABCD signaling bits are set in all inter-connected E1
Multiplexers. Failure to do so shall result in the improper functioning/performance of

Step 2.
Type the following command to select the A, B bits 11 for idle condition.
prompt> custom_idle=11xx
Step 3.
Type the following command to select the A, B bits 00 for seizure condition.
prompt> custom_seizure=00xx
Step 4.
Type the following command to configure the signaling bits for the un-equipped
slots.
prompt> custom_unused=11xx
This setting shall return the C, D bits of the un-equipped slots as 11xx.
