Question 2

The myths created by ancient Greeks were done so in a way that

allows vast interpretation and application to many facets of life. Theory
of narratology, theory of structuralism, and theory of nature myth
stand as only three schools of myth interpretation.
Narratology, or the theory of how narrative structure affects the
audiences perception, inspects the narrator, how the story is told, the
focal point of the story and order of events within the story. When
applying a narratology lens to a myth you can reconfigure ones idea of
the good guy and bad guy. In the myth of Niobe, we know that she
turns to stone after mourning the loss of ten of her twelve children who
are killed by the twins Artemis and Apollo. When hearing the story from
Niobes point of view, we believe that she is the good guy. Although,
when we hear the story from Leo, we find out that Niobe boasted that
she mothered twelve children to Leos two.
Nature myths explain reactions to the prowess of nature,
specifically the phenomena directly impacting life. These myths explain
why the sun sets every night, rainfall, droughts, life and death and
natural disasters. The Greeks explained the seasons by telling the story
of Persephone and Hades. Hades fell in love with Persephone, daughter
of Demeter. He kidnapped her and swept her away to the underworld,
where he resided. Grief stricken Demeter, goddess of the harvest,
mourns the loss of her daughter and so causes a bad harvest of crops.

Zeuz sets a deal with Hades that allowed Persephone to return to the
surface of earth once every year to see her mother. Demeter, filled
with joy, causes the growth of plants and return of warmth. This way
the Greeks explained the seasons.
Another method which further refines these concepts is
structuralism. This method reflects on the minds dicophony. Humans
view the world in reflection their own binary structure. Equipped with
two arms, legs, and a brain divided by two, we apply this dichotomy to
myths. Eros and his enchanted arrows curse people with complete love
and infatuation. Eros arrows also carry a serum of hatred. The gods
had the ability to bless their patrons if they wished, but they also had
the ability to curse their patrons if they went against them or left them
unsatisfied. He also spoke of the yin and yang symbol. In the light part
there is a spot of darkness, and in the dark part a spot of light. This is
one of many ways the gods are illustrated in the human form. All good
people have a bit of bad in them and vice versa.
Question 6
Greeks fashioned the families of their gods after their own
families. They were not perfect and often committed acts of betrayal
against one another. In the story of Zeus, he attacks and overthrows
his own father to become god of the Olympians.
