Churchwide
When God created the world and the herbs of the field, He
decreed that they would bear fruit and produce the kinds
of plants and trees from which they came (Genesis 1:11).
Producing fruit after like kind happens in the people world
as well as in a plant world. Every seed that we plant for
Jesus, which is sown in His name and for His glory, will
sprout and bear fruit. It may not happen as quickly as we
would like, but the law of the harvest will not fail. Jesus
even said that giving a cup of cold water in His name has
impact (Matthew 10:42)!
Tragically, the Bible also indicates that this law of the harvest can bring a
negative reaping. When parents sow the seed of unconcern, lack of discipline,
or substance abuse, their child can reap the bad results of their behavior. This
is why the sins of the parents are visited on the third and fourth generations
(Exodus 20:5).
We are challenging our church to sow godly seeds of service, helping, and love
for the glory of God and the advancement of His kingdom. John David Edie and
I shared a number of needs in the total ministry during the worship services last
weekend. Many of you indicated an interest. Of course, there is still time to let
us know how you would like to be involved. There are numerous openings for
volunteers in our church. As I said, just because we are a large church that does
not mean that all positions are filled to overflowing. Frankly, it simply means that
laborers are needed for the harvest (Matthew 9:38).
Sowing is dependent upon offering. This is why Psalm 110:3 (NASV) indicates
that people will volunteer freely in the day of Gods power. The word volunteer
is the source of the phrase free will offering. You are not sowing, offering, or
giving with your arm twisted behind your back. We are willingly giving as living
sacrifices to the Lord, which is our spiritual worship and service (Romans
12:1). Sacrifice implies death. You are taking up the cross and following Jesus
when you are willing to serve as He leadswherever, however to whomever
(Matthew 16:24).
The world has its list of celebrities and so-called superstars. Gods whos who
list is not necessarily those who win an Oscar or a Grammy, wear a Super
Bowl ring, or play in the Final Four, the Masters, or the Stanley Cup. Just read
Hebrews 11 and you will see Gods servants who sowed in faith by offering
themselves. Lets join them. Please volunteer freely and watch for the fruit.
