VETS
Our local vets all qualified for practice at overseas institutions, and virtually all of
them in English speaking countries. And if they cannot speak to your human, they
will have veterinary assistants on hand to translate if necessary.
You will find Hong Kong veterinarian listings on the following websites:

Dr Ian has chopped and prodded me more than I care to remember, but I owe him
my life several times over. As many HKDR alumni would agree, there isn’t a more
caring vet in all of Hong Kong. You’ll find him at a convenient location in Wanchai.
SPCA Clinic
2802 0501 / 2802 3003 www.spca.org.hk
The SPCA has seven clinics which are located in Wanchai (24 hours), Ho Man Tin, Sai
Kung, Hang Hau, Mui Wo, Cheung Chau and Pokfulam.
Their mobile clinic serves Shatin, Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan, Yuen Long and Tung Chung.
See their website for full details.
Pets Central
2264 0298 www.pets-central.com info@pets-central.com
Pets Central has clinics in Mongkok, Causeway Bay, North Point, Sai Kung and
Kowloon City - see their website for full details.
The Mongkok clinic offers 24-hour emergency service. Owner Ling described Pets
Central as “a place where you don't feel they are trying to make money from you at
every opportunity.”
According to comments from dog owners Lauren and Kitty: “Man's a genius, bar
none. I wouldn't go to anyone else” and “No hard-selling of non-necessary items. He
even advised me to stop the medication for my elderly dogs if the side effects exceed
the benefits.”
Dr Tom Mangan comes highly recommended and really cares for the animals who are
brought to him.
Dr Susi is a fully trained vet who also specialises in Chinese medicine, acupuncture
and nutrition for animals. She is very popular and accordingly has a long waiting list.
She also has top class people skills. She works part time out of the Kowloon and
Wanchai centres, but call the headquarters in Wanchai to make an appointment.
East
Dr David Gething makes housecalls and is reported to have the best bedside manner
of any vet. Other vets work out of the clinic, which is very easy to find and has
parking available close by. Convenient to reach via tram or taxi.
Highly recommended by Lifelong Animal Protection (LAP) who says Hans has made
an extremely important contribution to animal welfare, including his valuable support
of the work of LAP.
Hans has helped many street/homeless animals and has been generous with
donating his time and expertise. He has two clinics - one in Lamma and one in Tai
Hang.
See Pets Central under the THROUGHOUT HONG KONG section for details.
Southside
Recommended by an owner who lives in Lam Tin and takes her dog all the way to
Stanley as the vet does not delay treatment nor do any unnecessary treatment.

KOWLOON
Costs at this not for profit surgery are lower than many veterinary practices in Hong
Kong and excess is donated to animal welfare charities. Helpful staff. Popular so
advance booking recommended.
Open 24 hours. Large practice with advanced medical equipment. Dr. Diane Lu, one
of Hong Kong’s few experts in Neurology, and Dr Jonathan Speelman are particularly
recommended.
