(ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING)
Time: 3hours Max.Marks:80
Answer any FIVE questions
All questions carry equal marks
---
1.a) Obtain the relation between the output power of an AM transmitter and depth of
modulation. Give the output power in case of critical modulation.
b) Compare SSB-SC and DSB-SC systems. [12+4]
4.a) In FM, the side bands at equal distance from fc, have equal amplitude- Explain.
b) What are the differences between FM and PM?
c) What are the differences between NBFM and WBFM? [9+4+3]
5.a) Draw the schematic diagram for basic reactance modulator using FET and explain
how this can be used as FM generator?
b) Explain with block diagram the Armstrong method of FM generation. [8+8]
6. Explain the Foster seeley discriminator in detail, what are the limitations in it and
how they are overcome in the ratio detector. [16]
7. Show that for AM, when the noise is small compared to the signal the
performance of the envelope detector is identical to that of synchronous detector.
