1.a) Define input and output variables with respect to a stirred tank heater.
b) Derive the transfer function of a mercury thermo-meter. [8+8]
3. A PID controller is at steady state with an. Output pressure of a 9 Psig. The set
point and pen point are together. It time t = 0, the set point is moved away from
point at a rate of 0.5 in/min. The notion of the set point is in the direction of
lower readings.
The settings are Kc = 2 Psig/inch of per travel,
γ 1 = 1.25 minute and τ d = 0.4 min.

1. Explain the terms differential gap, time constant, forcing function, response

1. A thermo meter is placed in a bath at 450C. After the thermo meter reaches the
equilibrium with bath temperature the bath temperature is subjected to sinusoidal
forcing function about its average temperature 450C/ With an amplitude of 150C.
If the period of oscillatant is 3.0 seconds per cycle and the time constant is 10
seconds determine.
