1. Draw the hybrid model of a common base transistor and derive the parameters.
[16]

2. (a) Explain the volt ampere characteristics of PN diode.


(b) Explain the temperature dependence of VI characteristics. [8+8]

3. Derive the expression for the deflection in a magnetic deflection system. Hence
obtain the expression for magnetic deflection sensitivity. [16]

4. Design a phase shift oscillator to operate at a frequency of 2 KHz using a JFET.


Assume that µ = 50 and rd = 5 KΩ and the phase shift network does not load the
amplifier,

(a) Find the minimum value of RD to be used in the drain circuit.


(b) Find the value of the RC Product.
(c) Choose reasonable values of R and C to make this oscillator work satisfactorily.

5. (a) Draw the circuit diagram of HWR. Explain its working. What is the frequency
of ripple in its output
(b) A HWR circuit supplies 100mA d.c to a 250 Ω load. Find the d.c output
voltage, PIV rating of a diode and the r.m.s. voltage for the transformer
supplying the rectifier. [8+8]

6. With necessary diagram explain the input & output characteristics of common
emitter configuration. [16]

7. An amplifier has a mid band gain of 125 and bandwidth of 250 kHz.

(a) If 4% negative feedback is introduced, find the new bandwidth and gain.
(b) If the BW is to be restricted to 1MHz. find the feedback ratio. [16]

8. (a) Find the Q point for the voltage divider bias circuit shown in Figure 8.
(b) Briefly explain the reasons for keeping the operating point of a transistor as
fixed. [10+6]

1. Explain the operation of a transistorized Wein-bridge oscillator with the help of


neat circuit diagram. How is amplitude stability achieved in this circuit? [16]

2. (a) Draw the low frequency hybrid equivalent. Circuit for CE & CB amplifier.
(b) Give the approximate h-parameter conversion formulae for CB and CC con-
figuration in terms of CE.
(c) Give the advantages of h-parameter analysis.
(d) Give the procedure to form the approximate h - model from exact h - model
of amplifier. [4+6+3+3]

3. Derive all the necessary parameters of centre tapped FWR. [16]

4. (a) Write short notes on various currents in a transistor.


(b) Define base width modulation. [10+6]

5. Explain the various compensation techniques. [16]

6. Enumerate the effects of negative feedback on the various characteristics of the


amplifier. [16]

7. (a) An electrostatic cathode ray tube has a final anode voltage of 600V. The
deflection plates are 8.5 cm long and 0.8 cm apart. The screen is at a distance
of 20cm from the centre of plates. A voltage of 20V is applied to the deflection
plates. Calculate:
i. Velocity of electron on reaching the field,
ii. Acceleration due to deflection field,
iii. Deflection produced on the screen in cm, and
iv. Deflection sensitivity in cm/V
(b) In a CRT, the deflection plates are 2 cm long and are spaced 0.5 cm apart.
The screen is 20 cm away from the centre of the deflecting plates. The final
anode voltage is 800V. Calculate:
i. The velocity of the beam on emerging from the field and
ii. The voltage that must be applied to the deflecting plates to have a dis-
placement of 1 cm. [8+8]

8. Explain drift & diffusion current in detail. Also write the expression for total

1. (a) Explain about semiconductor, Insulator & Conductor with neat sketch.
(b) State the Einstein relationship for semiconductor.
(c) State paulis exclusion principle. [6+5+5]

2. (a) Find the values of hfb and hfc, if the value of hfe of a transistor is 50.
(b) A transistor is connected in CC configuration and its h-parameters are hie =
1100 Ω, hre = 2.5 × 10−4 , hf e = 50, hoe = 24mA/V, the circuits uses RL =
10 K Ω, and Rs = 1 K Ω, calculate gain Ai, input resistance Ri and voltage
gain Av of this amplifier. [4+12]

3. (a) Explain the criteria for fixing operating point.


(b) List out the different types of biasing methods. [12+4]

4. Two plane parallel plates A and B are placed 3 mm apart and potential of B is
made 200 V positive with respect to plate A. An electron starts from rest from
plate A. Calculate

(a) The velocity of the electron on reaching plate B.


(b) Time taken by the electron to travel from plate A to plate B, and
(c) Kinetic energy of the electron on reaching the plate B. [16]

5. (a) Describe transistor shunt regulator.


(b) Calculate the output voltage and zener current in the regulator circuit shown
in Figure 5b. [6+10]

6. An amplifier requires an input signal of 60m V to produce a certain output. With
a negative feedback to get the same output, the required input signal is 0.5 V. The
voltage gain with feedback is 90. Find the open loop gain and feedback factor.[16]

7. Explain briefly about frequency and amplitude stability of oscillators. [16]

8. Derive an Eber’s Moll equation for a transistor. [16]

3. With a neat sketch explain the drain source characteristics & transfer characteristics
of enhancement type MOSFET. [16]

4. (a) Find the speed and kinetic energy of an electron after it has moved through a
potential difference of 5000V.
(b) A Charged particle having mass equal to 1000times of an electron is accelerated
through a potential difference of 1000V. Calculate the velocity attained by the
charged particle and kinetic energy in terms of eV and J. [6+10]

5. (a) Write short notes on thermal run away.


(b) Give the importance of Heat sink. [10+6]

6. Explain the working function of Full wave Rectifier with necessary diagram. [16]

7. (a) Explain how the noise is reduced due to the negative feedback.
(b) An amplifier has voltage gain with feedback is 100. If the gain with out
feedback changes by 20% and the gain with feedback should not vary by more
than 2%, determine the values of open loop gain and the feedback ratio β.

8. A voltage of 200 cos wt is applied to HWR with load resistance of 5 KΩ. find the
maximum d.c current component, r.m.s. current, ripple ractor, TUF and rectifier
efficiency. [16]
