3. What is meant by endurance strength of a material? How do the size and surface condition
of a component and type of load affect such strength? [16]

4. Sketch various types of riveted joints? And explain caulking and fullering.? [16]

5. Derive an expression for the maximum load on the bolt, when a bracket with a circular base
is bolted to a wall by means of four bolts. [16]

6. Describe the design procedure of knuckle joint and discuss classifications and applications
of various keys. [16]

7. A solid shaft transmits a torque of 10 KN-m at shear stress of 40mpa; determine the wall
thickness of a hollow shaft having inside diameter equal to that of the solid shaft, and which
can transmit the same torque at the same tress. [16]

8. A 1.5m diameter pulley transmits 160 km power at a speed of 300 rev/min to a 0.50 m
driven pulley on the shaft of which, a flange coupling is to be attached there are to be 6 bolts
