MIDDLE SCHOOL
WEEK OF:
AUG 17 TO 21
Friday Bulletin
As the first full week of school draws to a close, it is safe to say that we have
had a smooth and successful start to the new school year.
MS Play
After-School Activities
Reminder to all parents: On days when your child needs to be absent from school, we ask that a parent
inform the Middle School Office via phone at 840-8550 / 553 or via email at ms@ismanila.org
Those of you who already have MS-aged students or who have older children
who have gone through adolescence, will appreciate that this stage of child development is incredibly complex. At this moment in a childs life, parents typically have just as many questions and confusing experiences as their child! In order
Middle School
to support parents as they navigate these critical years, the MS Media Center
(MSMC) has a wide range of titles that can help guide and inform parents about
what to expect from your pre-teen or teen. If you read a book that we dont
have in our MSMC, please share your recommendation with Meg Parry so we
can add it to our collection!
Over the past several years in Elementary and Middle School, a group of parents
have come together to organize after school lessons for students to further develop and support Mother Tongue language development. This has been parent
driven with the hiring of instructors in the language and these have taken place
in Chinese, Dutch, French, Hindi, German and Spanish. If you would like to find
out more information about what classes are being offered this year or how to
set up a course, please contact Naden Ollet (olletn@ismanila.org) and Denise
Loyola (loyolad@ismanila.org) - our ES secretaries, located in the ES office area
and they can put parents in touch with the other parent liaisons for the different
languages.
Please note that we have two long weekends coming up in August. If you choose
to travel, we would like to respectfully request that parents ensure that the family is back in Manila at an appropriate hour so students have a good nights sleep
and are ready for school.

We are pleased and proud to announce that the MS play this year is Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. We are starting preparations early this year because the play will be performed outside in January--very exciting!
We have held auditions this week after announcing the play in assemblies and via student email. If you have any questions, please speak with your son/daughter regarding the e-mail and
contact Ms. Rankin (rankinc@ismanila.org) or Ms. Grev (grevc@ismanila.org) for further followup as needed.
Thank you for your support! We hope you can attend the performances: January 29-30.
