SEM CAPSTONE PROJECT PROPOSAL GUIDE

Objectives:
1. To evaluate the graduate student's understanding of systems engineering and
management concepts and principles;
2. To apply systems engineering and management concepts, principles, methods and tools
to a topic that fits the graduate student's personal and/or professional interest,
company/organization and/or industry.
Criteria for choosing a project:
Choose a project that:
1. has enough detail so that it can demonstrate the use of the methods and
tools taught in the class;
2. you have access to information and data involved;
3. you may use as a topic for your master's thesis.
Acceptable topics include:
1. Design of a new system (technical, organizational, enterprise level, etc.)
2. Improvement of an existing system
3. Indepth investigation of a successful or failed system

OUTLINE OF THE PROPOSAL

A. For improvement an existing system
1. Background of the Project
- shall include:
1.1 Description of industry
1.2 Company/organizational profile
1.3 System description, to include:
1.3.1 System title
1.3.2 System description (purpose, function, relevance, etc.)
1.3.3 Sub-systems and description of each sub-system
1.3.4 For the system & each sub-system, define the components,
attributes and relationships
2. Statement of the Problem
- What is the identified research problem?
- Why is there a need to do the study about the said problem?
3. General & Specific Objectives of the Project

4. Significance of the Project

- What contributions will the results of the study make to concerned individuals and
organizations, administrators, agencies, service providers, clients/ beneficiaries, general
society, science, field of a profession, etc.
5. Scope and Limitations
For design of a new system
