PROBLEMS OF ORGANIZING RURAL FOLK

The rural people are facing with different types of problems i.e. social, political
and economic. This rural problem has now become a major issue for the country
and different organizations and bodies both government and non governmental
organizations are working towards solving these problems. But, the difficult to
organize the rural people has also become a problem for these organizations.
The rural problems are always contributing in unorganising the rural population.
Thus, the problems of organizing the rural folk can be discussed through the
following points:

1. Poverty as the reason.

Poverty is considered as one of the major social problem : and it has also
become a major problem for the rural people. It is at the high peak in rural
community and is compelling the rural people to divide themselves from
other groups of people. The rural people have the thinking that their
division from other people will provide them job security or it will make
them to avoid sharing their jobs with other people.

2. Practice of endogamy.
Most of the rural people still practices endogamy system of marriage.
Thus they do not allow themselves to get mix up with other culture. In this
regard they fail to understand the others culture and stay confine with their
old traditional way of living. This has also become a problem in organizing
the rural people.

3. High division of labour.

In rural area there is high division of lobour groups. There are lobours who
divide themselves according to the nature of work they do and it becomes
difficult to focus on a particular group and work because of the fact that
they have their own interest in different professions.

4. Vastness of geographical area.

Most of the rural areas are spread to large geographical area and
sometimes it is also found that the rural houses are far from each other.
Thus this spread in geographical also become a problem because the
transport and communication in rural areas are not very well develop and
it makes difficult to organize the people going from place to place.

5. Migration.
Rural people migrate to urban in search of jobs and better living condition.
Sometimes we also found seasonal migration among the rural people who
tends to work in different places. These migrations were in the form of
rural to rural or rural to urban. Thus, in order to carry out developmental
works people’s participation in important but due to migration it finds
difficult to get people to engage in developmental activities.
6. Male domination of the society.
In rural, women constitute the majority in population but we found male
members dominating the society. In most of the time women are
neglected for being taking part in the affairs of the family or the village and
their voice are being unheard. And in carrying out developmental activities
it is equally important for both male and female to participate female
working force also contributes to the economic development of the
society. But women are neglected and suppressed by the dominating
male members. Thus this also becomes difficult to organize the general
people because of the restriction giving to women folk.

7. No standard prices for the products.

The rural people are mostly engaged in agriculture and they depend on
agricultural products for their survival. Most of the rural people go to towns
to sell of their produces but we found that these rural traders we made to
sell their products at a cheap rate and the trade unions fail to do justice on
them. They are being neglected by the trade unions in such a way that the
unions fail to take the rural traders problems into account.

8. Illiteracy.
One of the major problems of the rural people is illiteracy. For being
illiterate most of the people fail to understand the concept of development.
Their idea about development is very limited. They tend to follow the old
traditional system of development and resist themselves from accepting
the modern way of development. Thus, the rural people become ignorant
and fail to contribute their support towards development.

9. Exclusiveness of the people.

The rural people tend to get themselves diverse from other group of
people and they fell secure without the interference of others. This feeling
of being secure without much interference makes them difficult to accept
others who are even really interest in contributing to the development of
the rural.

10. Inequality in participation.

The rural people are being suppress and exploited by the urban, the rich,
and higher authorities of the government. In some cases their rights are
also violated. The rural population even made to stay away from decision
makings in the public places due to their low social status and they are
unable to raise their voices. This problem creates a distinction among the
rural and others and thus they fell that the development activities to be
carry out in the rural are only to suppress and exploit them and they resist
themselves to share their opinions.
11. Lack of attention from the government.

The government is aware of the problems of rural people. But due to their
political interest they tends concentrate and work more towards the urban
where they can avail the resources and make profits for their own. The
government authorities also even make use of the rural resources like the
different schemes and programs for their own interest. Thus, the need to
be met for the rural people fails and this made the people to loss their
hope and interest in development.

12. lack of access to resources.

There are enough resources meant for the rural people. But it is a sad
thing that these resources are being utilized and enjoy by the elite groups
of people and it fails to reach the rural people. The resources meant for
rural development goes only in the hands of few people who enjoys it and
make profits and get benefits for their own interest. This misuse of
resources thus disturbs the social harmony of the rural.

Thus from the above mention point we can say that the problems of gathering the
rural folk is contributing to rural development to become stagnant specially the
economic development. The problems and needs of the rural are thus to be met
properly in such a way that they arouse interest for further development activities.
In any development activities people’s participation is important and thus it is
necessary to organize the rural people to contribute for the development of their
own society.
