Fig. 1-2: QualiPoc Remote Control system architecture

The QualiPoc Remote Control system architecture contains the following components:

QualiPoc unit: Standard Android OS-based consumer mobile phone with SwissQual firmware and QualiPoc software to run the measurements. The QualiPoc software loads a job configuration and starts the measurement, starts the trace interface, provides GPS data, and opens a measurement file. The software starts automatically when you turn on the phone and remains active to enable communication
between the other QualiPoc Remote Control components and to start measurements on time. After the measurement completes, QualiPoc uploads the measurement files to an FTP server and informs NQView about the status of the device. If
available, QualiPoc also provides network and position information. The unit also
contains a watchdog service that automatically restarts QualiPoc if the application
stops working. If the application restart does not solve the problem, the service
restarts the phone and then QualiPoc.

NQView: SwissQual software on your computer that configures and manages

QualiPoc units and measurements. NQView stores the configuration and scheduling information in an SQL database and can display device and status information

Manual Remote Control 03

SwissQual...QualiPoc

Introduction
Overview

from a QualiPoc unit in real-time. For more information, see the

Manual - Diversity NQView.pdf document.

NQWeb (optional): Web application to define routine jobs, which are scheduled to
run at a specified time. NQWeb performs jobs such as importing measurement files
into NQDI or sending an Email to inform you of a failed test. For more information,
see the Manual - NQWeb.pdf document.

NQDI and NQDI Database (optional): SwissQual post-processing software on

your computer that analyses and stores the measurement data in an SQL database. You can import the data manually or configure the Automation Agent to automatically import the data. For more information, see the Manual - NQDI.pdf
document.

NQComm Service: NQComm runs as a service on your computer to provide communication and file transfers to and from the QualiPoc units through an FTP server.
NQComm periodically polls the NQView database for new configuration files or
jobs and uploads the new files to an FTP server. NQComm also periodically polls
the FTP Server for new files from the QualiPoc units and downloads the files to a
folder that you specify in NQView. NQComm parses and stores status and device
information from the status files in the NQView database. NQComm can also send
an SMS with the SMS service.
For HTTP communication, a special HTTP service needs to run on the FTP-Server.

FTP Server: Provides communication between NQView on your computer and the
QualiPoc units, for example, to transfer job configuration and measurement files.
Each QualiPoc unit has a dedicated folder on the server that NQComm, QualiPoc,
or the special HTTP service can access.

SMS Service: Provides communication between NQComm and the QualiPoc units
for small amounts of information. This service informs the QualiPoc unit of new files
on the FTP-Server and also transmits special commands from NQComm to QualiPoc.

Multimedia Server: Provides a test environment for data tests

Voice Call Server: Provides Mobile Originated Calls (MOC), Mobile Terminated
Calls (MTC) and speech quality assessment in downlink and uplink.

If the phone is connected to the charger with a USB cable, the battery might not charge
fast enough to compensate for the power consumption of tests that use HS and LTE
technologies. In such a scenario, the phone can suddenly turn off when the battery
level drops below 5% despite being connected to a charger.
You can view low battery and low disk space alert messages on the "Alerts and
Actions" tab in NQView . You can also find information about task failed starts and running task aborts on the "Log messages" and "System log" tabs.

3.7.1 Monitoring the Update

You can monitor the update process on the "Alerts and actions" tab of the
NQView log.
If the update package contains a combination of the
SQuad08-ForAndroid-XX.X.X.XX.apk,
SQLookForSynch - Android- XX.X.X.XX.apk, or license files, NQView updates
the logs status to "Succeeded" when the update is complete.
If the update package also contains the QualiPoc - Android - XX.X.X.XX.apk
file, NQView updates the log status to "Succeeded" after the QualiPoc Remote Control
unit restarts.
If the update package contains more than one file, the
QualiPoc - Android - XX.X.X.XX.apk update always runs last.
If the update package contains files that are not compatible with QualiPoc, for example, a *.dll file, the update extracts the compatible files and sends a "Failed
NQView".
If the license has expired, a "Please update the license" message appears in the log.

QualiPoc Remote Control Operation on a Mobile Phone

Remote Configuration

4 QualiPoc Remote Control Operation on a

Mobile Phone
This chapter describes how QualiPoc operates in Remote Control mode.

4.1 Remote Configuration

In Remote Control mode, you configure the QualiPoc Remote Control unit remotely
with NQView.
In addition to the communication settings and the QualiPoc Remote Control configuration, you can also perform the following tasks with NQView:

Force a phone reboot

Define behaviour of measurements, that is, task scheduling

NQView saves the configuration settings for the QualiPoc Remote Control unit to a
ZIP file that uses the following naming convention:
ConfigUpdate_yyyymmdd-hhmmss.zip.
The NQComm service uploads this file to the FTP server and informs QualiPoc
Remote Control about the new file. QualiPoc Remote Control then downloads the file
to the phone and informs NQView whether the new configuration was loaded successfully or not.

4.1.1 Rebooting a Phone Remotely

A maintenance hard-coded application restart is scheduled to take place at 23:57:00
on the day after the last QualiPoc application start.
The following reboot options are also available in NQView:

"Reboot hardware (delete tasks)": Aborts the scheduled jobs and reboots the
phone

"Reboot hardware (keep tasks)": Reboots the phone without stopping and deleting
the scheduled jobs

4.2 Measurement Jobs

This section describes how QualiPoc Remote Control handles the measurement jobs
that you configure in NQView. For information on how to create and schedule QualiPoc
jobs, see the Manual - Diversity NQView.pdf document.

QualiPoc Remote Control Operation on a Mobile Phone

Measurement Jobs

4.2.1 Scheduling Measurements

The following steps occur after you start a QualiPoc Remote Control campaign (a collection of tasks):
1. NQComm uploads the measurement configuration files from NQView to the dedicated folder for the QualiPoc Remote Control unit on the FTP-Server and informs
QualiPoc about the new file either by SMS or the next time that the phone polls the
FTP server.
2. QualiPoc receives the information about the new measurement, connects to the
FTP server, downloads the configuration file to the phone, and then analyzes the
file.
Note: If QualiPoc Remote Control does not receive the new measurement configuration message or if a GPRS connection is not possible, the unit status remains
idle.
3. If the phone has the correct license for the job, QualiPoc Remote Control schedules, and executes the measurement.
4. NQComm verifies that QualiPoc Remote Control successfully loaded the measurement configuration file on the phone.
If the measurement task is two sided, the B-side job is scheduled first; once the
unit confirms that B-side job has been loaded, the A-side job will be scheduled.
5. After the tasks in a campaign successfully load, the task status changes to running in NQView.
When the task is running on the QualiPoc Remote Control unit the title bar and the
Q icon turns red.
Note: Depending on the network, this process can take several minutes.

4.2.2 Running Measurements

QualiPoc Remote Control schedules a measurement after receiving the job information
from NQView. After the measurement completes, QualiPoc Remote Control calculates
the start time for the next measurement and displays the time in the title bar.

In QualiPoc Remote Control measurement execution is the same as in QualiPoc

Handheld mode. For more information, see the
Manual - QualiPoc Android.pdf document.

A low battery level on the phone as well as a low amount of free space on the SD
card can stop a running job. For more information, see chapter 3.3.1, "Battery
Level and Disk Space", on page 26.

4.2.3 Post-Measurement Actions

After a measurement, QualiPoc Remote Control automatically uploads the measurement results file to the folder for the unit on the FTP server. The NQComm service on
the PC downloads the file to the measurement folder that you specify in the NQView
settings.
4.2.3.1

Manually Uploading Measurement Files

QualiPoc Remote Control also provides you with the option to manually upload the
measurement files from your device.
To manually upload measurement files from the device, touch the menu icon
the top of the screen and tap "Upload".

4.3 QualiPoc Remote Control Unit Information

Each time a QualiPoc Remote Control unit connects to the FTP server, QualiPoc
Remote Control uploads a file with device information that you can view in NQView as
well as file with status information.

4.3.1 Log File

QualiPoc Remote Control records the activities of the unit in log files and regularly
uploads the files to the controlling PC in the \Logfiles\UnitName subfolder of the
folder that contains the measurement files.
You can analyse the log file and the measurement files to troubleshoot problems that
might arise during a measurement campaign. The name of the log file contains the
name of the unit, a sequential number, and the timestamp of the last QualiPoc Remote
Control start-up time, for example, UnitName-0123-QPCLog200606201557.txt.
The log file tends to be unreadable in Notepad. Use an advanced text editor, such as
Notepad++ to open the file.

power interruptions indoors or short voltage dips in a vehicle to prevent overheating. If
the original battery of the QualiPoc Remote Control device is replaced by an electronic
battery emulation, the UPS delivers power to the phone as well.
The UPS batteries provide the following functionality:

3 hours of bridge power for the QP RCS fan

Average recharge time of 4 hours

UN test certified

If the device battery reaches the energy threshold that you configured, which is 80% by
default, QualiPoc Remote Control stops the measurement; however, the device
remains accessible to NQView and NQWeb so long as the battery has power.

When you mount a QP RCS on wall, ensure that the PWR IN socket points to the floor.
This orientation, such that the FAN can benefit from natural convection! Keep a zone of
6cm free to any obstacle at the PWR IN side, to have enough space for the connectors
(PWR and RF if needed).
Use the following diagram as a guide for drilling the holes to mount the QP RCS on a
wall.
If you print this page, you need to scale up the diagram with a photocopier until the
dimensions are correct. Otherwise you can draw the diagram yourself with a ruler.

The VMK must be installed by a trained vehicle electrician.

The wiring must be of the appropriate gauge and the battery plus wire must be fused
according the wire gauge.
To run 3 QP RCS in parallel, you need to use at least a 7.5A fuse; however, you need
to ensure that the wiring can carry the maximum current that the fuse allows. The purpose of the fuse is to protect the wiring and not the QP RCS. The QP RCS equipment
has its own protection.
