Un breve DVD ed una incisione dal vivo per conoscere meglio l'arte della brava q
uanto misconosciuta ottantunenne pianista Lee Shaw. Dalla sua parte c'è un conta
gioso, rilassato, gioioso swing tipico degli anni '50.
Pur non essendo una innovatrice, il pianismo della Shaw trabocca di squisità mus
icalità e le sette tracce del live austriaco riescono a catturane la classe cris
tallina nella sua limpida, elegante icasticità
Senza ricercare strutture insolite, il suo trio cerca di offrire la spontaneità
e la freschezza del jazz dal vivo, con invidiabile interplay e senso del blues.
È un disco molto misurato, intelligente e godibile, che rimane comunque ancorato
ad una concezione classica del piano trio. In compenso tanto swing, sicurezza a
rmonica, chiarezza di fraseggio e distesa comunicativa.
È un trio che senza fare mirabilie riesce a produrre un jazz classico ma da manu
ale, con qualche bella scelta in scaletta, a cominciare da "Night Mist" di Jamal
. Dal DVD si apprende che la Shaw fu la mentrice di John Medesky, insieme a tant
e altre cose che lasciamo scoprire direttamente al pubblico.

A short DVD and a live recording to learn about the art of good as misunderstood
ottantunenne pianist Lee Shaw. From his side there is an infectious, relaxed, j
oyous swing typical of the '50s.
Although not an innovator, the Shaw's pianism is full of exquisite musicality an
d seven live tracks on the Austrian can Catturani class in its crystal clear, el
egant icasticità
Without seeking unusual structure, the trio tries to offer her spontaneity and f
reshness of live jazz, with an enviable sense of interplay and blues. It is a ha
rd very measured, intelligent and enjoyable, which remains anchored to a classic
al conception of the piano trio. Instead both swing, harmonic security, clarity
of phrasing and relaxed communication.
It's a trio that can produce wonders without doing a jazz classic but textbook,
with some pretty choice in the lineup, starting with "Night Mist" to Jamal. From
the DVD we learn that Shaw was the mentrice John Medesky, along with many other
things that we leave out directly to the public.
