The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Swim
Camp offers swimmers, ages 9-17, an opportunity to
work with coaches and collegiate swimmers with
experiences swimming and coaching at the National
and International levels. The purpose of the UWSP
camp is to provide individual swimmers the opportunity
to improve by focusing on technique and drills, efficient
stroke mechanics, creating power
& speed and focusing on quality
training for the individual. The
state of the art facilities at UWSP
include an 8 lane, 25 yard pool,
complete with four PowerRack®
2010 POINTER cable swimming machines and a
newly completed strength and

staff and coaches rely on a variety
of innovative teaching strategies
in a highly energetic environment

where campers make new friends
and learn the latest advancements in stroke mechanics,
strength and training.
We believe a quality swim camp offers eyes, ears
and simplified feedback. At the UWSP Swim Camp,

swimmers are placed in training groups appropriate for
their swimming ability and age levels. Keeping the

ratio of 8:1, ensuring that each camper receives the

Al Boelk - Head Coach, University of
Wisconsin Stevens Point
Having already captured
Eleven men’s and women’s
Wisconsin Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference
championships in his first ten
years, Al Boelk begins his
thirteenth season as the Pointers’
head coach in 2009-2010.
Boelk led the men’s team to
their tenth straight WIAC
CAMP & STAFF
championship and 13th in
fifteen years last season. The
Pointer women’s team finished first in 2007 to
reclaim the WIAC title as well. The
double win is UWSP’s 4th ever in 35
years. With these successes, Boelk
has already earned 13 WIAC Coach
of the Year honors in his short
career, earning both the men’s and
women’s award during 2006-07. He
has now claimed the men’s
award eight times in the last nine
years and the women’s honor
four straight seasons. He also
was named men’s Coach of the
Year in 1998 and earned the
women’s Coach of the Year
award in 2000.
Boelk has coached two
NCAA Division III national
champion relays that both set
Division III records, while also
coaching his brother, Randy, to a
national title in the 200 backstroke in 1998. Boelk
has coached the Pointer men to a top seven national
finish in five of his nine seasons. He also guided the
women’s team to their three highest-ever national
finishes, including an eighth place effort in 2001.
A native of Embarrass, Minn., Boelk came to
UW-Stevens Point from the University of

Minnesota, where he was an assistant coach for the
Gopher Men’s Swimming and Diving Team and the
Head Coach for the distance competitors. He was also
Assistant Coach for the Twin Cities Swim Team
(USS) for over two years.
A four-year letter-winner for the Gophers, he
made his mark in the high school ranks when he

became the first swimmer in nearly 40 years from
Northern Minnesota to win a high school state
championship (1991). He earned his Bachelor’s
Degree from Minnesota in Kinesiology with a
coaching minor and has a Master’s Degree in Exercise
Physiology. Boelk has also published research
regarding “Power Generation in Female Swimmers.”
Justin Stoffel - University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point, Associate Head Coach/Camp Director
Justin Stoffel is the Associate Head
Swim Coach and Swim Camp Director at
UWSP. Following eight combined
seasons of high school, USA and YMCA
coaching, Stoffel entered college coaching
in the fall of 2005. Stoffel has also served
as a Longhorn Swim Camp Coach and
Assistant Head Counselor at the
University of Texas (2004 & 2005) where he worked
under Olympic Coach Eddie Reese and World
Championship Coach Jill Sterkel. Stoffel’s experiences
working with several Olympic and World

him acquire the newest drills and training practices

that have produced over 18 world records and 44
Olympic medals.
In the winter of 2000, Stoffel became an assistant
coach for three seasons at the Stevens Point Area High
School in Stevens Point, Wis. In the spring of 2003
Stoffel started coaching at the Stevens Point SPDY
Swim Club and was named head coach in 2004.
During his three year tenure with SPDY, Stoffel lead 5
swimmers to a combined 27 individual state
swimming titles, including 7 Wisconsin state records
and three USA Junior National Qualifiers.
In 2005, Stoffel began working as the UWSP
head assistant swim coach under head coach Al Boelk.
In their first season together, Boelk and Stoffel teamed
up to win both the men's and women's WIAC
Conference titles, a performance repeated only three
prior times in 40 years of UWSP swimming & diving.
At the 2006 NCAA Swimming and Diving
Championships, the pointer women's team placed 10th
and the Men's team placed 9th. Nationally, both of the
Men's and Women's teams were the top public school
swimming programs in the NCAA division III bracket
in 2007. The men placed 8th in 2009.
