Relationships Are Important in Sunday School

Formula to determine how many relationships can be formed in your class:

= the number of possible relationships that can be formed in your class

Example: a class of 15 people (Insert any number for n and use that same number to subtract)

15 (to the second power) or 15 x 15 = 225 – 15 = 210 2 = 105

So, your class of 15 people would have the possibility of creating 105 relationships within the class.

Use this formula for your class and see what you come up with! The point is that many connections
can be made in your small group.

Ideas for Paying Attention to People

1. Assign your class members to sit at different places in the worship area. Pay special attention
to guests who would be your Sunday School age group.
2. The formula for how often we should invite a person to Sunday School or worship is this: the
number of times they say no + 1.
3. Josh Hunt says, “People are not interested in a friendly church; they are looking for friends.
4. Keep at least one open chair in your class. Remind your class members each week that they
need to fill that chair with a person who is a prospect for the class.

The Nine Basics of Sunday School Ministry

Basic Number One - Make a commitment to reach people!

Step One – During the remainder of the month of February and the first part of March,
spend a few minutes of your class time each Sunday talking about reaching new
people.

Step Two - Pray as a class about attitudes toward reaching people. Talk about any
attitudinal barriers that would hinder your class from reaching others. Ask God to
change any attitudes that would hinder outreach in your class.

Step Three - Make a commitment as a class to reach new people for Christ and His
Kingdom. Covenant together as a class to move toward this goal.

Step Four – Go after them. Come up with a class plan to accomplish this goal of
reaching new people. Your church staff is ready to help with ways to move forward.
