RULES AND REGULATIONS


During the preliminary rounds each player will have 10mins to make all his/her
moves necessary to make him/her win the game. If one player runs out of time
before checkmating his/her opponent then that player will lose the game and
his/her opponent will be announced winner.
During the knockout rounds (except final) each player will have 15mins to make
all his/her moves necessary to make him/her win the game. If one player runs out
of time before checkmating his/her opponent then that player will lose the game
and his/her opponent will be announced winner.
During the final each player will have 30mins to make all his/her moves necessary
to make him/her win the game. If one player runs out of time before checkmating
his/her opponent then that player will lose the game and his/her opponent will be
announced winner.
If the final match comes to a situation where no sequence of legal moves will lead
to a checkmate, the match will be announced draw and a Rapid Chess (10min per
side) with a Sudden Death Time Control will be played to decide the winner.

When needed the points of the pieces remaining after winning the game will be recorded.

Priority for being selected in top 16:


Win by checkmate>Total point of winner>Remaining time on clock.
Every game will have an Arbiter (volunteer) to make sure the game runs
smoothly.
Moves must be made using one hand only. If a participant touches a piece, he/she
will have to make a legal move using that piece.
If a player touches one of the opponent's pieces then that piece must be captured if
there is a legal move that does so.

The stop clock will be operated by the arbiter with as much precision as possible.
The stop clock will be stopped for a player only when he/she has placed his piece
and completed the his move i.e. the stop clock wont be stopped until he/she
makes a move and leaves contact with the piece.

You Should Know!


Smartphones will be used as chess stop clocks.
School teachers will be present for additional monitoring during the
matches. 1 teacher for every 5 table. Presence of homeroom teachers will
naturally make the participants enthusiastic and will be an act of
encouragement.
Certificates of Participation will be given to the participants on the day of
their respective preliminary rounds.
16 participants who will reach the knockout stages will be given their
Certificates of Qualification on the day of the Grand Finale and they may
bring 1 guest with them (Parent/Sibling).

Since this is a school competition, timings are scheduled for 2 pm, so
please finish your lunch before you come to the auditorium.
We will be starting sharp at 2 pm, anyone who is late or does not show
up for reporting on time, will be automatically disqualified. No
Exceptions.
Participants will not be allowed to leave the auditorium without prior notice
and valid reason, otherwise you will be automatically disqualified, if you are
not present during your gaming session.
Breaking any rules of the competition will result in
DISQUALIFICATION. And no certificate of achievement will be awarded
to the disqualified participant.
