1.1. 1CHAPTER 1 : INTRODUCTIONIndustrial Training module is a main component in the


learning curriculum forPolytechnic of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). Industrial
training isone of the compulsory courses for every polytechnic student under theMinistry
of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia. Every student bounds to beinvolved in industrial
training for one whole semester in order for him or her toget his or her diploma
certificate.1.1 PreliminaryThe industrial training was carried out at a firm or an
organizationwhether the students choose it or it is given to them for one whole
semestar.The main purpose of the industrial training is to produce graduates who areready
and capable to face their profession academically or non-academicallywith a high
professionalism appearance.

2.2. 2Other than that, the industrial training exposes the students about thereal situation
of the working class citizen. The industrial training also helps indeveloping social skills in
the students.1.2 Industrial Training Objective1.2.1 To expose the students to the real life
working experience andexpanding the knowledge in their specific field.i. Students will
further learn about their real life profession.They will also learn what they need to do in
order tofinish their works. This will prepare the students so thatthey will easily fit in and
fulfill the demands of theirprofession after they finish their course.1.2.2 To make use of the
theory and learned in the polytechnic.i. Students are only exposed to the basic theory
andneeded in the fields of their own. These theory and weremainly according to the books.
With the industrial trainingin place, students will experience real life situation in thefield.
This will make the students use their knowledge inorder to get their works done.

3.3. 31.2.3 To produce trustworthy workers with high responsibility andable to cooperate
with other staffs.i. All tasks given by the supervisor must be completed witha sense of
trustworthy and full responsibility. This attitudevery important to ensure all business
entrusted tostudents were carried out flawlessly. Also, it train thestudents to be honest not
only to themselves but othersas well.1.2.4. Enhance students confidence at end of the
training.ii. When the industrial training students are exposed to avariety of problems and
had to face it. With theexperience learned through industrial training , thestudents will be
more confidence both in learning andworking. High spirit and skills to overcome the
problemsfaced certainly create a strong confidence in thestudents.1.2.5. Learn to interact
with superior officers.i. In this training, students get the opportunity to interactwith upper
management such as engineer, director andconsultant and others. With this opportunity,
student willbe able to associate and discuss with them in a closerway. This opportunity will
not come without the

4.4. 4implication of industrial training. This opportunity shouldbe used well by the students

to learn more.1.2.6 Increase the interest and curiosity.i. There will be many new things that
students will faceduring the period of the industrial training . These eventswill enhance the
curiosity in the students. Other thanthat, the real life exposure given to the students will
alsoincrease the interest of the students towards their fieldsof studies.1.3 Report
Objectives1.3.1 The objectives of the report enables the students :i. To provide a work
document effectively.ii. To produce students that are responsible for their workby providing
enough evidential documents that related towork.iii. To expose the students on how to
provide a properdocument.iv. To build self-confidence in the student while providingthe
document.v. To complete the prerequisite for the student to passindustrial training
Polytechnic KPTM.

5.5. 51.4 Importance of Industrial Training1.4.1 Industrial training are important to the
students in manyaspects. This is because this module was created to givebenefit to
students, especially students who take up studies inpolytechnic KPTM. Among the
importance is:i. To produce employees that are fully disciplined after theyhave graduated
from the polytechnic KPTM. This can beseen through the students who take part in the
industrialtraining, they are not only bound to the rules set by thepolytechnic but also rules
fixed by the organization thatstudents take their industrial training at.ii. To produce
employees that are skillful and ready to workwhen they take their first step to the working
world. Thisis because by involving in certain industrial training at theorganization given to
them, student will be more skillful incarrying out a job after they were explained on how to
dothe job by a more experienced coworker.iii. Student who went through industrial training
will be moremature in conducting the works given to them.iv. Students will also be more
knowledgeable andunderstanding about matters related to their field ofstudy, after the
practical lessons.

Institutionof Chartered Surveyors,UK) established way back in 1972 as JuruukurBahan
Berakan. The company was subsequently reincorporated as anunlimited company under

the name of Nik Farid Dan Loh Sdn. in 1976. Tomove in line with the prevailing market and
planned business development,the company was restructured and renamed as Perunding
NFL Sdn. Bhd.(PNFL) in December 1994. There are one of the leading Consulting
andChartered Quantity Surveyors in Malaysia, providing Quantity Surveying andProject

10.10. 10ii) Managing DirectorABDUL MANAP ABDULLAH started his career as a Quantity
Surveyorin 1973 and became a Director of the company in 1982. Prior to joiningPerunding
NFL Sdn. Bhd., he was a lecturer at Universiti TeknologiMARA (UiTM) for seven (7) years.
His involvement in projects includeEON HQ Shah Alam, Menara ESSO Office (KLCC),
Southern Bank HQ,Plaza Damansara (SPPK), Pan Pacific Hotel at KLIA, Petrosains
andPertonas Gallery At KLCC, ISTAC and Putrajaya projects. He is theManaging Director
entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing theoverall performance of the company and
his other portfolio includesFinance and Human Resource if the company.iii) Executive
DirectorCHUA SEOW KWANG began his career as a Quantity Surveyor in 1977with Public
Works Department (JKR) before joining the company in 1980.In 1985 he was appointed

Associate Director and became a Director in1989. His projects involvement include Menara
IMC, Phileo Avenue,Kuantan Parade, One Ampang Avenue Condominium and Bangi
Heightsresidential development. He has also nurtured the companys Computerand ICT
capabilities. Chua Seow Kwang has led the company to be onthe international front by

AssistantQuantity Surveyor and was promoted to Quantity Surveyor in 1990
uponsuccessful completion of RICS Final Examinations and appointed asAssociate Director
in September 2000 and a Director in September 2003.SL Teh has been involved in
commercial and residential developmentprojects including Base Ammunition Terminal,
Refurbishment Works toCarcosa / Istana, Institutions (QS Advisory for Multi-Media
University),Project Cost Audit for Ampang Hospital including an international
projectKowloon-Canton Railway Corporation - Hong Kong West Rail PackageCC203 - CC300
(Tender Procurement). She is the Quality ManagementRepresentative (QMR) for the
company.v) DirectorSR ABDUL HALIM ROSMAN started his career as a Quantity Surveyorat
PNFL in 1994. He was appointed as an Associate Director inSeptember 2003 and become a
Director of the company in April2004.Major projects that he was directly involved include
Menara PoloCondominium, PNB Darby Park Service Apartment, Common UtilityTunnel

Studies :Advise on the returns from a development taking intoconsideration the initial and
running cost.ii) Preliminary Estimates & Cost Plans :Work out the approximate costs of a
project forbudget control.iii) Tender Documents :Prepare Bills of Quantities and
Specifications forcalling competitive tenders. (Bills of Quantities arecomplete breakdown of
a building into the basicmaterials and labor contents).iv) Tendering and Contractual
Procedures :Recommend the most suitable method of tenderingand advise on contractual

thatappropriate payments may be made progressively.viii) Financial Statements :Prepare
statements at periodic intervals to indicatethe anticipated final cost of the project.ix) Cost

Control :Cost check on all Variations proposed during theconstruction period to avoid over
expenditure.x) Final Accounts :Assess the amount of variations from the originaltender and

19.19. 19CHAPTER 3 : WEEKLY SUMMARYIn undergoing industrial training, students are


disclosed with a whole lot ofnew things. Apart from practicing what we had learnt in
polytechnic, studentsalso get the chance to experience it themselves by doing the
assignmentsgiven to them according to their respective course. By doing so, students
areable to further increase their confidence upon entering the working world. Onthe other
hand, student had to obey every rule of the firm and need to ontime. This could educate
the students to be more disciplined and make thestudents to be familiar with working
hours when they go for work later.

20.20. 203.1 Following is the summary of all the activity carried out during trainingperiod
weekly :Week 1(17th December 21st December 20012)1. Reporting in for industrial
training, Perunding NFL Sdn Bhd at 8.30am.2. Meet with Encik Zulkarnain, who is a senior
contract manager inPerunding NFL Sdn Bhd.3. He explains about PNFL Sdn Bhd and
explain on some of thecurrents projects that are organized by the firm.4. Introduced to all
of the Perunding NFL Sdn Bhd staff.5. We were requested to see Pn Nur Maya. She explains
on the rulesthat need to be obeyed in the firm including the dress code.6. Assigned to our
first task which is to update all the drawingsaccording to their specification.7. Check some
files and need to identify each files content.8. We were requested to do some taking off for
construction drawingand contract drawing.9. we were given the task to differentiate each
drawing to identifyaddition or rejection that happens in every drawing given to us.
