Running Head: President Clintons and Obamas Healthcare Policies

I am in favor of President Clintons and President Obamas healthcare policies because

they want to ensure each and every American citizen healthcare insurance. These policies are
great for low and middle class families. The most average citizen have a lot to gain and little to
lose, while those making more including larger firms and there for their employees, may notice
negative financial effects. President Obama is continuing to revamp what President Clinton
started in 1993 (Pfiffner, n.d.). One thing President Obama ensures is that every American citizen
will benefit from the new rights and protections like guaranteed coverage of pre-existing
conditions and the elimination of gender discrimination.
President Obama policy is very rewarding; it has allowed tens of millions of uninsured
citizens access to affordable quality health insurance through the marketplace (The White
House, 2011). Also, over half of uninsured Americans can get free or low cost health insurance
using their States Health Insurance Marketplace. He has allowed children to stay on their
parents insurance longer and this is an enormous satisfying benefit. A lot of young adults do not
have a job that offers them health insurance. I so agree with President Obama for not allowing
insurance companies to drop a person from their coverage once they get sick or make a sincere
mistake on their application. They also cannot be denied coverage or treatment for being sick or
charged more for being sick. They cannot be charged more for being a woman either. This is a
big plus for me because I am a woman and we are constantly put on the back burner.
Medicaid and Medicare are expanding and more less fortune citizen will benefit from
this. Medicaid is improved for seniors including eliminating the donut hole, keeping rate down
and expanding free preventive service. All coverage starting after 2014 must include new
preventive services and essential health benefits (The White House, 2011).

I cannot agree with the revamping of the healthcare policies that has been brought about,
that first started with President Clinton and now with President Obama. In 1993, President
Clintons policy failed because the plan was not properly planned and I feel the same thing will
happen to President Obama (Pfiffner, n.d.). In order for President Obama to ensure every citizen
equal healthcare insurance there will be new taxes; mainly that will occur on high-earners to get
the money. This is not fair to hard workers such as me.
The taxes that may affect you directly are the individual mandate and employer mandate.
The individual mandate says you must have to obtain health coverage by January 2014, get and
exemption or pay a fee if you can afford it (The White House, 2011). In the next couple of years
the employer mandate is going to make all businesses with over the equivalent of 50 full-time
employees must provide health coverage (The White House, 2011). In anticipation some
businesses have cut employee hours and they should not have to offer them insurance because
that means more cost for them.
It is unfair for insurance companies to have to cover sick people because this increases
the cost of everyones insurance. Young adults should be made to get their own insurance after a
certain age because their children are fully grown. I do not agree with limiting the Medicare
payments to doctors and hospitals. Insurance premiums have increased due to insurance having
to provide covered services.
President Obama is worried more about every citizen being covered by healthcare
insurance instead of addressing the cost of care. He plans on cutting out programs that are not
being used, raise taxes to reduce the 4 trillion dollar deficit, and make Medicaid more flexible
and reduce Medicare excessive spending (The White House, 2011). This is really causing a
problem for individuals that are making more money than the average citizen.

The healthcare policy has been a very interesting topic lately in the media. President
Obama has been revamping the healthcare system that stemmed from President Clinton. Policies
have been trying to be implemented since President Clintons term in January 1993 (Johnson,
2013). He has made a lot of changes to the healthcare policy and there are more to come.
President Obama is ensuring every citizen healthcare insurance in many different forms.
President Obama wants to ensure every citizen universal healthcare insurance. Ensuring
every citizen with healthcare insurance will allow every individual proper and fair healthcare.
Not every citizen in the past has been fortunate enough to get health insurance until now. This is
a really positive change that has taken place under President Obamas administration. Not only
have this healthcare policy allowed everyone with insurance but it has permitted young adult to
stay on the parents insurances until they turn 26 (The White House, 2011). Providing young
adults health coverage through their parents insurance allows them better family cover rather
than individual coverage.
The healthcare policy has agreed to let tons of Americans get preventive and wellness
services with no out of pocket cost. Many citizens need this service that is no cost to them
because they may have never had a proper check-up or it has been a while since their last checkup. Many seniors should take advantage of this because they are at higher risk for becoming sick
than young people. Not one American citizen can be denied healthcare coverage because now
everyone can pick coverage that best fits them.
Not allowing insurance companies to drop a person if they become sick is a major
advantage. There have been too many innocent citizens that have been faithful to paying for their
healthcare coverage and when they get sick their insurance company drops them. Many

insurance companies feel that individuals are costing them too much money. Insurance
companies should be made to pay for their client hospital bill as they have promised.
The new approach to revamping the healthcare policy has caused a negative impact for a
lot of high-earners. President Obama plans to make individuals that make more than the average
citizen pay more for taxes and make business owners offer their employees healthcare insurance
just to ensure every citizen universal coverage. Most of the new taxes are on soaring earners,
large businesses, and health care companies. Most of these companies notice a net profit because
of the law. Very few taxes force the middle class whatsoever. This is not fair for high-earners to
have to pay more taxes to ensure a lot of able individuals with healthcare. Every person should
be responsible for their own health insurance.
Cutting more taxes out the soaring earners pay is causing a pay cut for each individual
families and this is not flaxen to each high class family. This policy is more benefitting for the
low and middle class family. If President Obama is going to change the healthcare plan then the
benefits should be equal for every American citizen. The Obamacare policy should be repealed
for varies reasons.
There are many large businesses that should repeal the healthcare policy. The large
businesses have been supporting the campaign of the President forever and now things are
starting to change. Now businesses are starting to feel this healthcare policy is causing them to
lose business. They now have to cut workers hours and make them part time workers so they do
not have to offer them healthcare insurance. This policy should be repealed because the President
seems to be asking for too much from one source. No one should be made to care of anyone else
lack of stability.
