Dear Sir/Madam,
RE: DIGITAL COORDINATOR
I am writing to express my interest in the position of Digital Coordinator as
advertised on SEEK website on the 29 th of July 2015. I believe with my
experience and passion for marketing through digital media I would be an
excellent person to assist to develop and build the digital presence of
MONA and subsidiary brands.

I am currently employed in the role of Media and Marketing Manager with

Football Federation Tasmania. In this role I am responsible for the digital
communications, media operations and marketing for football (soccer) in
Tasmania. More recently I have also taken on further responsibility
including greater involvement in commercial arrangements, sponsorship
as well as employing and managing staff for my department.

Experience with a content management system(s)

I have extensive experience operating a range of content management
systems across my work in the digital sphere. Most notably at Football
Federation Tasmania in my roles I have dealt with TYPO 3 CMS, Word Press
CMS and a rage of other back end setups attached to the different
websites I have worked with. My work with CMS at Football Federation
Tasmania involves a complete control of all aspects of the backend. I also
have used CMS at Cricket Tasmania in publishing match reports. I
extremely comfortable in my use of CMS and believe my experiences and
skills have me well equipped in operating a range of CMS.
A basic understanding of online marketing tools (Google
Analytics, SEO)
In my role at FFT I have developed a sound understanding of online
marketing tools such as Google Analytics. It gives you a valuable tool to
get active and meaningful tracking/monitoring across a number of
indicators in order to assess and follow successful marketing initiatives. I
am also well versed in Search Engine Optimisation and have an
understanding of techniques to organically increase a websites visibility
through search engines.

A good understanding of different forms of digital communication

(eDMs, social media)
Throughout my professional and personal life I have developed technical
skills in a wide variety of social media, including: Twitter, Facebook,
Youtube, Instagram, Myspace, LinkedIn, and Foursquare. As part of my
internship at Reuters, I was required to manage the Reuters Oz twitter
handle, including managing any tweets and also ensuring that the content
was up to date. This involved making regular posts and updating stories
as new information came to hand. As a reporter for The Back Post, I
utilised the power of Facebook, Twitter and the website to drive content, to
capture multiple users across the various digital media formats and to give
different audiences opportunity to engage with the content published.
Through my personal life I have also managed a YouTube account, through
which I could post sporting videos that I had filmed and edited.
At Football Federation Tasmania I have only further developed my
techniques and skills associated to social and digital media, including and
exclusive to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo, Periscope, Vine, Instagram
and Snapchat, as well as eDM setups such as Mail Chimp.
Further to this recognizing the power to reach different audiences through
different forms of digital communication include: In digital marketing a one
size fits all model is often ineffective. In 2014 we had strong digital media
through text, video, audio all housed on our website. While these were
well received there were limitations in driving this digital media through
our official FFT channels. Last year we live streamed an FFA Cup game, our
coverage was amateur and this is something we embraced with some
colourful and humourous commentary. The stream was embraced and
went semi-viral with thousands across the country tuning in and a hashtag
for a line from our commentary #sliceofcheese trending.
In 2015, I cashed in on the popularity of the line and made an off-shoot
site for the organisation called slicofcheese.net. The theory behind it was
to market the sport in a completely different way to the company site, in
order to get better cut through with our digital media. It also allowed the
content to not be so official and be a bit more colourful and fun as it is not
directly attached to the FFT brand. The site has achieved all it set out to
do providing more news, information and digital content than our
traditional site ever did while embracing the slice of cheese spirit in
having things that partially take the mickey memes, deliberately poor
photo shopping, colourful commentary and unique opinions on the game.
It has been overwhelmingly received and although it is not positioned to
directly link to the FFT brand it has had a positive impact in public
perception and has seen greater traction in a marketing perspective for
FFT.
This year our company site has matched our previous seasons numbers
whilst sliceofcheese.net has added an additional 400,000 views from over
80,000 unique visitors to our digital presence.
A good understanding of best practice in the digital field

Due to the nature of digital media I recognise that trends and appropriate
practices change rapidly and, therefore, in order to engage effectively with
the target audience it is essential to be up to date in these areas. Through
my previous roles in digital media, I have demonstrated a sound
knowledge of these social media trends. For example I have been
employed on several occasions in the role of Social Media Operator for
events such as: Socceroos (FFA),A-League (FFA) and Cricket Tasmania Hobart Hurricanes. I was required to gauge social media trends through
posting opinion polls and monitoring retweets, comments and likes on
content and adjusting this accordingly. In my position as a reporter for
The Back Post and at FFT, I used live blogs to commentate on local soccer
games. This meant I had to be up-to-date in order not to miss crucial
information, and ensure the audience had the most recent details.
Whilst at FFT I have experimented with a range of digital media and have
a sound understanding of how best to use digital media to achieve
targeted goals. It is also a matter of understanding the target market
demographic to tailor content to best suit and meet your aims.
Internal and external stakeholder communication
Within my role at FFT I am in charge of communications, responsibilities
within this role include communications internally and externally. Internally
I am charged with designing standard company documents, regularly
communicating with stakeholders including sponsors, members, coworkers. This includes official documentation and regular informal and
formal discussion and communication.
Externally, as manager of our digital presence and in charge of all our
dealings with mainstream media I have a lot of experience in managing
external communication. I write, edit and produce the majority of the
content that goes out publicly under the company banner, I write media
releases and I am the companys contact for all external media
communication. Skills around this are not limited to merely the ability to
write but knowing your market and how best to reach them through
effective communication.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
I am confident in my ability to effectively communicate to an audience,
using both written and verbal communication skills. Through undertaking
my degree at the University of Tasmania, I have been educated in media
writing skills. I have demonstrated my ability to utilise these written
communication skills in the stories I wrote during my internship at Reuters,
which was demonstrated by their international publication. I am reliant in
my current role to be able to produce written documents that can be
released to the media as a representation of Football Federation Tasmania
as well as being responsible for written web content, internal and external
emails and articles/advertising to the wider community.
I also consider myself to be an effective verbal communicator. I recognise
that verbal communication does not only involve speaking skills, but also
having good listening skills. In my current role with Football Federation
Tasmania I rely on positive verbal communications to build rapport with
sponsors, players, staff, customers, and to effectively supervise other
staff. I have further developed these verbal communication skills through

my role on HOFMs Waterboys Program. I am confident in public speaking

and being able to effectively communicate a message verbally in an
informative and entertaining manner. I take pride in the use of appropriate
spelling and grammar and believe their correct use in correspondence and
communication ensures that I present myself, and the organisation I am
working, for in a credible light and using appropriate examples. I consider
interpersonal skills as one of my strengths, in both a personal and
professional capacity. In both my position as News Operations Assistant at
the ABC and my internship at Reuters, I have conducted interviews that
required me to build rapport and remain approachable. Furthermore, I
used interpersonal skills to create new networks and connections, to build
positive relationships that could further support my role as a reporter.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to complete tasks

thoroughly
I believe I have excellent attention to detail and complete tasks thoroughly
in an efficient and effective manner. Across my various roles attention to
detail has been imperative. At ABC I was charged with ensuring quality of
text, vision and audio. I needed effective attention to detail in order to
ensure content going live to air was correct, ensuring no errors go to air.
These are skills I have also demonstrated in my further work. Especially
with social media that is being produced live (live tweeting Asian Cup
matches for example), attention to detail is essential to ensure while
producing media that has tight deadlines. I have demonstrated my ability
to do this effectively with live, informative and accurate content produced
to strict timelines.
At FFT I control communications so I need to be thorough to ensure what
goes out under our banner is accurate and communicated appropriately. I
have demonstrated an ability to do this through our vast range of
communications involving a range of styles and deadlines.
Ability to collaborate and work effectively with technical and nontechnical staff
I am comfortable working within a team environments in order to meet
appropriate business outcomes and KPIs. In my personal life, I have
always been involved in sport, and understand the importance of
effectively working together to maximise the benefits. I recognise that
effective team work is an essential component to meet Digital Media
strategy outcomes. My role as News Operation Assistant at the ABC
involves communication and collaboration between all members of the
newsroom team, in order to get the news to air.
In my role at FFT I manage a team of reporters and my relationships with
them are key to achieving optimum results and getting the best out of the
team members.
As I manage an expansive department I also deal with staff from across
our company and I have relied on my people skills to build strong working
relationships and work cooperatively to achieve goals.

Ability to work towards multiple deadlines, and to manage your

own time
I am confident in my ability to prioritise tasks, give attention to detail and
work under pressure in order to complete all work to a high standard,
within appropriate deadlines. I am regularly responsible for ensuring that
our information and digital media content is first to update news, make
announcements and communicate key information of Football Federation
Tasmania. I believe this is demonstrated through my ability to do so
through a variety of different social media and digital media avenues
including TWITTER, Facebook, our website and advertising.
Also through my work with media I have had to work to strong deadlines
around broadcast. This requires me to be punctual, organized and
efficient. Skills I have demonstrated through providing releases, vision etc.
for television and print media to utiliise. For example we recently had our
final round of our top league and following the game I had to get votes
information from referees to produce an embargoed media release on the
award winner of the medal night some hours later. This involved me
needing to be prepared and work to deadlines effectively to ensure my
content was used.
A further example of my ability to manage deadlines is in my role as News
Operations Assistant at the ABC, is preparing production cues, scripts and
supers, and often these tasks are undertaken while the news is live to air.
This involves working effectively in high-pressure situations, and the
ability to prioritise tasks appropriately, in order to ensure that audience
viewing is not interrupted and organizational objectives are met. As the
information I enter into the system is what will be presented to the
viewers, I must give attention to details to guarantee accurate information
is presented, and that I uphold correct standards of production.

Experience in Photoshop and InDesign beneficial

I have experience in Photoshop, In Design and similar desktop publishing
software. While I am not a graphic artist and I have experience and am
confident in operating a range of photo and video editing software
packages and have found through initiative and experience I have the
skills necessary to navigate and use creative beneficial. For example at
FFT I often make graphics with Photoshop for digital marketing purposes to
advertise matches etc. I also have experience in video editing software
such as Adobe Premier and Final Cut Pro and have edited many videos
within my role at FFT.
Experience in basic HTML beneficial
I have experience in basic HTML beneficial; I have an understanding of
how it works, its purpose and how to use it. I also have some experience in
editing and writing lines of HTML. I often utilise HTML code for creative
purpose to add something beyond the limitations the company websites
basic back end services. For example, I often use html coding for website
polls, custom layouts and video embedding.

I am passionate and enthusiastic and would love the opportunity to

demonstrate my commitment to a role such as that of Digital Coordinator
with MONA.
