From the Rector

Dear Parishioners,
As we embark on a new year, it seems appropriate that we might stop and take
time to reflect on where we have come from and where we are going. With this
in mind I am delighted that the Revd Norman McCausland has agreed to
facilitate a parish forum on Sunday 11th October. I do hope as many parishioners
as possible will be able to attend and engage with this process. For more
information please see page 16
Nigel Pierpoint
Nigel will be made Deacon by the Archbishop on Sunday 20th September in
Christ Church Cathedral at 3.30pm. All are very welcome to attend and to offer
support to Nigel as he begins this next stage in his ministry.
We will have our own opportunity to say farewell to Nigel on Sunday 13th
September at the 10.45am service.
Harvest
The annual Harvest Thanksgiving services will be held in early October, please
see page 14 for more information.
The Obelisk
Joan Millar has decided to pass on the Advertising portfolio of the Obelisk and
we pay tribute to her for the sterling work she has done. Through her wise
stewardship and persuasive charm she has made the Obelisk one of the great
successes of Holy Trinity Thank you Joan!
Trevor Jones has kindly agreed to take up the mantle from Joan.

The Carry Centre

Rents - The Centre Manager has been very busy over the Summer and has
secured a number of Centre users for the forthcoming year. This has required
some of our current users moving the time slots and we deeply appreciate their
co-operation in facilitating these changes.
Grants - We have secured generous grants from the Priorities fund and
DLRCOCO these grants must be spent on specific projects within the Centre.
We also have received a donation from the Smythe family (in memory of the late
Ernest W. Smythe). The Select Vestry has decided to apply these funds to
purchase the following: Sound boards; laptop, IT software and roller screen for
committee room; facilities for a crche; a portable sound system and curtains for
Committee room and roller blinds for main hall and kitchen. We are extremely
grateful to the above donors for their generosity.
Plants - It is hoped to plant the flower bed on the South bank of the Centre
grounds with suitable shrubs which parishioners and friends may already have in
their gardens and be in a position to donate. Suitable plants include: David
viburnum, Zabel's cherry laurel, Schumann abelia, Barrenwort, bishop's hat, fairy
wings, Crinkle-leaf creeper, Rock cranesbill and Sweet box. For more

Clubs and Societies

Ladies Guild: A number of coffee mornings were held over the Summer
months many thanks to those who opened their homes and gardens for these
gatherings. The Guild will meet on Tuesday 8th September in the Carry Centre
at the changed time of 2.30pm. All welcome.
Service & Social: The next gathering will be on Sunday 4th October at 3pm in
the Carry Centre. Please contact Joan Whyte or the Rector for more
information.
Killiney Diners Club The KWDs: The next gathering will be on
September 10th, the venue is yet to be decided. Further expressions of interest
or queries may be addressed to Zandra Laing or the Rector.
The Y Club (Killiney Mens Society): The new programme of events for
the new season is now available. The new season begins on September 24th
with a talk in the Carry Centre at 8pm. More information from Paul OBrien or
the Rector.
Socials Involving Ladies of Killiney: The new season begins on Wednesday
16th September with a Cookery demonstration at 8pm in the Carry Centre.

Liturgical colours are those specific colours which are used for vestments and
hangings within the context of Christian liturgy.

Harvest
The Annual Harvest Thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday 4th October at
10.45am. The preacher on the occasion will be the Revd Canon Fred Applebe
(left) from Rathmichael Parish. The church will be decorated on Saturday 3rd
donations of flowers and vegetables will be most welcome. The Junior Harvest
will be held on Sunday 11th October at which we welcome the Revd Norman
McCausland (right) as our preacher. This will be followed by the Parish Forum in
the Carry Centre.

Parish Retreat
It is hoped to have a Parish Retreat in Holy Trinity, Killiney in November.
Running this event will require a minimum of 10 people. A sign-up sheet will be
available at the church door.

Parish Development: Fit for Purpose

We live in an ever changing society in which our parishes face many new and
tough challenges as we strive to remain faithful to our Christian calling.
Just like the physical body, the Church, the body of Christ, can get out of shape
and become unfit for the purpose of carrying out Christs mission in the world.
In the same way that many of us see the benefits of a regular medical check-up
to ensure that we stay physically healthy, it is good for the body of Christ to
have a medical to see how fit for purpose we are.
I look forward to joining you in Killiney Parish on 11th October as you continue
the process of building a new vision for the future of the parish. Together we will
examine the Signs of Health in the parish, which you can continue to build on,
as well as identifying any Symptoms of Sickness, coming up with ways of treating
these ailments. Based on the results of this examination, you will then set new
goals for your parish for the next three to five years.
While all this may sound very serious, I am sure that the day will also be one
when we can have some fun too. It would be great if, on the day, the parish is
represented by as wide a range of parishioners as possible. So, please do come
along and make your contribution to maintaining a healthy parish, fit for the
purpose of carrying out Christs mission in the world.

Another new business opened in Dalkey

I am a busy working professional and am time poor, last weekend I needed to get a
manicure and polish and phoned Silk Beauty Spa, which I saw advertised in a recent issue of
Newsletter. The lady who answered the phone was extremely polite and said she could fit
me in at 12.30pm, I told her Id have my 7 year old daughter with me, would there be
somewhere for her to sit while I was getting my treatment. She said no problem, we can
give her our princess manicure!
The Salon was deceptive from outside and I was dubious whilst climbing the stairs, all my
concerns were diminished the moment I reached reception. We were warmly welcomed
and offered tea / coffee / water etc. The dcor is a combination of warm mink and creams,
with subtle tiling & glass surrounds and plenty of ambient candles. Straightaway, we had our
consultation and agreed what we were having done. The cleanliness, professionalism and
attention to detail from the two therapists who were in attendance to us was
exceptional. Chatting throughout the treatment I learnt a lot about the two enterprising
women who have set up this beautiful intimate beauty spa.
The main person behind the business is Nguyen Thu Thuy (Twee), her journey to Dalkey
and experience she has gathered along the way is worth sharing with your readers. Twee,
moved to Ireland 11 years ago, originally from Vietnam, she lived and studied beauty therapy
in Singapore before moving here. Twee is well travelled and has lived all across Europe, the
moment she landed in Ireland she knew she found her second home. She has been working
in beauty therapy since she left school and has a wealth of qualifications behind her from her
college years in Singapore, which she then followed up with recognizable Itec, Cibtec and
Cidesco certifications through Galligan beauty and then an advanced beauty certification in
Senior Dun Laoghaire College. Twees area of absolute excellence is facials, manicure and
pedicure, and has over 9 years experience working with Mink Salon in Donnybrook &
Ballsbridge & Pink Salon in Dundrum. Silk Beauty Spa offers a wide range of treatments and
recently included a spray tanning service. So, I wish Silk Beauty Spa the best of luck with
their new venture and highly recommend a visit. (See page 23 for more info).

Patronal Festival
We were delighted to welcome Lord & Lady Eames to Holy Trinity on Trinity
Sunday. After the service the Vestry hosted a reception in the Carry Centre
which was followed by an enjoyable and convivial meal in Killiney Golf Club.

Pentecost
On the feast of Pentecost, we joined the clergy & parishioners of St Matthias,
Ballybrack for a festive Holy Communion in the Old Church of Killiney on
Marino Ave. Our worship was enhanced by the presence of the Steadfast Band.
Lunch in the Deanery
A number of parishioners and the Rector worshiped in St Patricks Cathedral on
Sunday 5th July. A bring and share lunch was enjoyed afterwards in the Deanery.
Many thanks to the Dean for his warm and welcoming hospitality.
Christian Aid
An uplifting service on May 10th marked the beginning of Christian Aid Week.
Many thanks to Marianne Irvine and her team who organised refreshments after
the service and to all those who support the work of Christian Aid.
Summer 2015
During the months of July and August the church was open to visitors. We are
grateful to the team of volunteers who assisted in making Holy Trinity more
accessible to the wider community.

THE NUMBER 59 BUS SERVICE
A proposal to change the route of the above service will result in no bus service
travelling through Killiney Village. The newly proposed route will service Dun
Laoghaire via Dalkey, Killiney Towers Roundabout, Ballinclea Road, Cluny Grove,
Avondale Road, Loughlinstown and terminate at Loughlinstown Hospital. It
would also have an improved frequency of every 30 minutes, Monday to
Saturday.
Observations have been made to Dublin Bus - more to follow.
