Helmut Josef Michael Kohl (April 3, 1930 - ) is a German conservative politician and
statesman. He was Chancellor of Germany from 1982 to 1998 (West Germany between 1982 and 1990)
and the chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) from 1973-1998. His 16 year tenure was
the longest of any German chancellor since Otto von Bismarck. During his time in office, he was the
architect of the German reunification and together with French President Franois Mitterrand the
Maastricht Treaty which created the European Union. Kohl and Franois Mitterrand were the joint
recipients of the Charlemagne Award in 1988.
In 1998, Kohl was named Honorary Citizen of Europe by the European heads of state or government
for his extraordinary work for European integration and cooperation, an honor previously only
bestowed on Jean Monnet. His life's work has been motivated by a desire to establish enduring panEuropean institutions to sustain peace based on economic prosperity and social justice. He situated
Germany firmly within Europe as a partner with others, especially with France, perhaps pushing the
European vision of unity further than some would or could tolerate (Great Britain under Margaret
Thatcher opted out of the Social chapter of Maastricht, as her successors did out of the common
currency.) He may claim more credit for re-unification than can properly be attributed to him. There is
no doubt, however, that his commitment to making this happen was highly significant in enabling the

Madonna apologizes for racial slur
Madonna apologized Saturday for using a racial slur on Instagram to refer to her white son, seeking
forgiveness a day after calling those who criticized her language "haters."
On Friday night, the singer posted a picture of her 13-year-old son, Rocco, boxing and
included the comment, "No one messes with Dirty Soap! Mama said knock you out!" She then
added a variation of a word used as a racial epithet.
She quickly deleted the comment when outraged Instagram users berated her for the use of the
word, and was initially defiant. But in a statement to The Associated Press on Saturday, a contrite
Madonna said: "Forgive me."
"I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram. It was not meant as
a racial slur. I am not a racist. There's no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about
intention," she said. "It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate
that it's a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression."
Besides Rocco, she has three other children, including Lourdes, David and Mercy. Mercy and
David are black, adopted from the African nation of Malawi.
This is the second time this year that Madonna has offended people on Instagram. Earlier this
month, she posted a photo of Rocco and his two young friends holding up bottles of liquor; she
defended the post as a joke.
"No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don't
start the year off with judgement!" she responded on Instagram.

The following text is for questions 28 to 30.
Orcas, or killer whales, are the largest of the dolphins and one of the world's most powerful
predators. They feast on marine mammals such as seals, sea lions, and even whales, employing teeth
that can be four inches (ten centimeters) long. They are known to grab seals right off the ice. They
also eat fish, squid, and seabirds.
Though they often frequent cold, coastal waters, orcas can be found from the polar regions to
the Equator.
Killer whales hunt in deadly pods, family groups of up to 40 individuals. There appear to be
both resident and transient pod populations of killer whales. These different groups may prey on
different animals and use different techniques to catch them. Resident pods tend to prefer fish, while
transient pods target marine mammals. All pods use effective, cooperative hunting techniques that
some liken to the behavior of wolf packs.
Whales make a wide variety of communicative sounds, and each pod has distinctive noises
that its members will recognize even at a distance. They use echolocation to communicate and hunt,
making sounds that travel underwater until they encounter objects, then bounce back, revealing their
location, size, and shape.
Killer whales are protective of their young, and other adolescent females often assist the
mother in caring for them. Mothers give birth every three to ten years, after a 17-month pregnancy.
Orcas are immediately recognizable by their distinctive black-and-white coloring and are the
intelligent, trainable stars of many aquarium shows. Killer whales have never been extensively
hunted by humans.

The following text is for questions 31 to 34.
Why Should You go to College?
One important answer to this question is more opportunity. As opposed to generations of the past,
high school graduates today are unable to obtain the number of high-paying jobs that were once
available. The U.S. has been transformed from a manufacturing-based economy to an economy
based on knowledge, and the importance of a college education today can be compared to that of a
high school education forty years ago. It serves as the gateway to better options and more
opportunity.
There are additional reasons as to why it is important to go to college. When students
experience a post secondary education, they have the opportunity to read books and listen to the
lectures of top experts in their fields. This stimulation encourages students to think, ask questions,
and explore new ideas, which allows for additional growth and development and provides college
graduates with an edge in the job market over those who have not experienced a higher education.
The importance of a college education is also accentuated because of the opportunity to gain
valuable resources during your tenure. The more connections which are collected during your
college career, the more options you will have when you begin your job search. Once you have
ended your job search and have started your career, however, the importance of a college education
has not been exhausted. Having a college degree often provides for greater promotion opportunity.
So, why should you go to college? The reasoning does not begin and end with the job aspect.
A good education is beneficial from many different viewpoints, and while the importance of a
college education is quite evident for many high school students, what is often not as clear is how
they will pay for that education.

How do we solve the worlds problems?
Right now, more than 7 billion people live on planet Earth. Many of those people, including
children, live in a place where they can't go to school or find enough food or water to survive. (One
child under the age of five dies every six seconds!) On the other hand, there are other people in the
world who have more than they needso much that waste is a real problem!
How can we get everyone on Earth to share the resources that are necessary for life, but
without destroying the environment in the process?
One mechanism created to solve the world's problems is the United Nations (UN). The UN
was founded in 1945 at the end of World War II with the mission of creating a world without war.
Almost every country around the globe (193 countries) is now a member of the UN.
Eliminating war and conflict is certainly not enough to achieve balance and harmony
between all people. Problems like global warming and biodiversity loss, for example, require
discussion and cooperation between the nations of the world.
For this reason, the UN is where the world's leaders discuss solutions to the world's
problems, and set goals and rules to achieve them. For example, the member countries of the UN
agreed on a set of rules, or treaty, called the Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC) to
address global warming. They also agreed on a treaty called the Convention on Biological
Diversity (CBD) to protect living organisms and their habitats.

Global warming
The problem is that the global average temperature has been rising in recent decades.
NASA-Goddard Institute for Space Studies has a page showing these changes of the global
average temperature, as well as changes locations and in different seasons. The 2000 year
temperature trend also shows the warmer temperatures this century. Many people believe this
temperature change is associated with increases in carbon dioxide. This is because of the
greenhouse effect.
Some have criticized the validity of the data showing an increase in global mean
temperature because satellite data has shown the opposite trend. However, this opposite trend is
focused mainly on the temperatures in the upper atmosphere, whereas the surface temperature
trends shown above are only for the surface.
The next questions involve the actual relationship between greenhouse gases and
temperature increases, as well as whether or not us humans are actually causing the greenhouse
gases to increase.
Some believe that climates will change significantly as a result of global warming. Look at
a few examples in the Midwest, according to this link, Wisconsin summers in 2095 will be the
equivalent of Arkansas summer now. This could lead to adverse conditions for certain species of
plants and animals, disrupting the food supply, or in other cases, increase the length of the
growing season, adding to the food supply. Many also believe that global warming will lead to
more disease being spread from the tropics, sea level rise as a result of melting polar ice caps,
more hurricanes, and fires.
Many scientists believe that although the earth will warm as a whole, some regions,
especially western Europe, may cool as a result of weaker ocean circulation. These effects make
global warming scenarios very different.

American Hustle
American Hustle will appeal to those who like their humour, as con artist Irving Rosenfeld (Bale)
puts it, 'not black and white, but extremely grey.' Full of fraudsters, politicos, liars and cheats,
American Hustle is a cheeky tribute to American life, sticking its tongue out deliciously at all its
loving lies.
Irving and Sidney (Adams) are partners in crime, passionate about money and each other.
But Irving can't leave his son and sexy, crazy wife Rosalyn (Lawrence, playing the dumb blonde to
nail-polished perfection). Irving's life gets more twisted when he and Sidney are entrapped by the
FBI's Richard DiMaso (Cooper) who demands they catch more criminals, thus involving mayor
Carmine Polito (Renner, saccharine-sweet), mob-king Victor Tellegio (De Niro), a fake sheikh,
money, stress - and lots of sex.
American Hustle's stars are its story and performances but its look deserves mention too. The
detailing brings alive 1970s America, all sideburns and fur coats, oil money and big hair. Sinking
into the styling, you don't even notice how faultless Bale's performance is as fat, balding Irving,
who looks at Sydney with longing, at Rosalyn with frustration. But you do notice Adams'
uninhibited performance as super-sexy Sydney - metamorphosed from writing Cosmo 'cover
stories on cunnilingus' to 'Lady Edith from England'. Adams rips apart her role with abandoned
sexiness, intimate sadness - and a wardrobe any sensible woman would hustle for.
Cooper's hilarious as a driven FBI agent while Lawrence impresses as idiotically beautiful
Rosalyn - whose boyfriend's from the mob. As Polito lobbies politicos - and De Niro does a
delicious cameo as snarling mobster Tellegio, addressing a Mexican sheikh in Arabic - the hustling
grows. Who wins?
American Hustle amuses with irony, music and wit. It tantalizes with danger but doesn't get
violent. Its sexiness - there's grinding in washrooms, on tables and laps - is electric and fun.
Intelligent and good-looking, American Hustle could've lost 20 minutes to deliver an even sharper
kick.
But otherwise, fun for those who like vibrant humour - that's extremely grey.

Last Saturday I (49) on the bus and went to the north of the island. It was much quieter there
than here and was very beautiful, but no tourists. The next day we went across to
the east coast to see some of the old villages. I learned Balinese, but I could not say much, but it was
fun to try. Fachri actually spoke it quite well, but he was (50) of opening his mouth, so I was the one
who talked to people.
