1. Objective
The objective of this procedure is to identify, manage and disposed off solid waste generated
during the plant operations in an environmentally safe and corrective manner.

2. Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of Operations Unit Manager / Section Head to ensure compliance with this
procedure.
SICs have responsibilities for day-to-day administration of solid waste generated during plant
operations & ensure that waste should be disposed off at designated place. Day assistant engineer
is responsible to collect and transfer all solid waste at designated place in scrap yard.
SICs also responsible to make sure all personnel are aware of the waste disposal procedures.
Shift Supervisor is responsible to ensure the Drums are available in area at designated places with
specified tags.
Every shift area engineer is also responsible for follow the waste disposal procedure

3. CHEMICAL WASTE DRUM


1. Chemical Waste
Following are the different type of solid waste (coke and chemical waste) generated at the
plant during the operation and shutdown.
a. Quench filters coke
b. Reboilers coke
c. Pumps filters/strainer material
d. Oxy reactor catalyst waste drums
e. GF-601 Cartridges waste
f. Drain Channel Sludge
g. Empty Chemical Drums
h. Empty Catalyst Drums

i. Empty Kerosene Drums


j. Empty caustic Soda bags
k. Empty Glycol Drums
l. VCM Filters Cartridges

2. Color Coding, Capacity And Tagging:


Specified tagging will be carried out on Drums as per Utilization
- Capacity 210 Kg Drums
- Tag/Location For each location, Individual tag will be marked as below
1-Quench Filters coke A-300 near Furnace A, east side.
2- Reboilers Coke Near HCl/VCl Reboiler
3- VCM Filter Sludge A-600 roadside near Deluge Room.
4- Pumps/Strainer Material A-200 Pre-heater, near existing trash drums
5- Drain Channel Sludge

PROCEDURE
1. These drums will be placed at wooden plank at designated location with marking.
2. Only specific material to be collected in designated drums.

CAUTION

Coke
DRUM SHOULD BE COVERED ALL THE TIMES WITH LID TO AVOID ATMOSPHERE

3. SIC/SE will inform to Warehouse person for removal of hazardous waste drum from the area.
4. Warehouse person with fork lifter will come in the area under operation supervision and
remove the drums from their designated locations and place all drums at road side south east
corner of HE tank dyke.

NOTE
FORK LIFTER WILL COME IN THE AREA UNDER OPERATIONS SUPERVISION
5. AE will accompany warehouse person with fork lifter in area till all drums are collected at
above location.
6. Checklist for hazardous waste disposal record will be filled mentioning waste type, no of
drums and approximate quantity and will be signed off by shift supervisor and warehouse person.
7. Warehouse person will remove these drums to designated location at waste disposal yard
Warehouse person will provide replacement empty drums for above location.
8. If drum is not filled up to 70% to 80%, it will be removed in next cycle.
9. Other then specified day, if requirement arises, same protocol will be followed.

TRASH DRUMS MANAGEMENT


All miscellaneous waste is collected in the trash drums placed at plant at different location at
plant premises.

Caution
Dont Dump Hazardous waste in Trash Drums

Trash drums will be emptied out in WPP bags (available with warehouse) by USLs under AE
supervision.

Trash drums waste after collecting in WPP bags is dumped out in Scrap yard at designated
location on every Wednesday or as per requirement by USL under the supervision of AAE /
Ware house staff.

Checklist for Non hazardous Solid waste Disposal will be filled and signed off by shift
supervision and warehouse person.

BOTH CHECKLISTS WILL BE SUBMITTED TO OPERATION UM BY RESPECTIVE
SHIFTSIC.
